Also dude I tired 25 times and nothing.

The odd part is my buddy used it and had no problems, first time. His words "Yeah, it worked like a charm and is the simplest JB process thus far. You click the make it ra1n icon and it does all the work. No more holding down buttons or any of that."

I have not had a chance to use it. I'm safe on 3.1 JB.

Try This!!

EPIC WIN: THE SOLUTION FOR WINDOWS VISTA

Sorry for that but I would want someone to do that if they got it as well.

I kept trying and restoring but it kept freezing at the USB Cable -> iTunes screen.

THE SOLUTION:

Move Blackra1n into your C: Drive directly.

E.g.

START > COMPUTER > OS(C: ) and put it in there.

Then run it from there (I did it as admin) and it goes without a hitch.

Nevermind these little tweaks like stopping processes, etc.

This works perfect.

Please tell me if it works for you!

Well, I have a clean new 3GS, tried 7-8 times, no luck, struck with same itunes->usb icon. Then placed blackrain.exe to C, and first time success...took <30 secs. AWESOME!! THANKS for the TIP!!:D

Yes doesn't matter if it's in the root of C:/ I have tried that and no go.

Also dude I tired 25 times and nothing. I get stuck on the standard recovery screen and my only choice is to recover it to get it back to the normal home screen etc.

The jailbreak was not ready for prime time. At least when the Dev team releases their jailbreaks they KNOW for a fact what it does and doesn't work on and they make sure to warn people if it wont work on a specific iphone etc.

He just carelessly released it.

The JB is fine, you need to have your device recognized in iTunes before you start.

I just bit the bullet

And up'd my 3GS to 3.1.2 coming from JB3.0.1..I must say it was a pleasant experience...first of all...I did the 3.1.2 upgrade thru iTunes, thinking that it would wipe my 3GS clean and I would have to set up as new or restore from back up...well that couldn't be farther from the truth...the only think it wiped
out was cydia installed apps..my AppStore Apps and my trial..:) Apps stayed in tact..then I "Make It Rain" on my 3GS and now I am going to try to restore
my cydia Apps via ROCK...all I can say is WOW...I called a coworker who is afraid to do the upgrade...I quickly called him a SISSY...:D

Yep sorry geohot but even if I can manage to get this to jailbreak my iphone 3G 8GB you will NOT be getting any donation from me.

This was clearly not ready for primetime, and I even wonder if you even tested it on an iPhone 3G now. I think it was only tested on 3Gs's

GeoHot tweeted he was having alot of issues getting this to work with 3G phones, so he did work with the 3G phones, but this thing certainly isn't a stable release !

I have like 20 times iTunes recognizes it everything. It's still a no go.

I said it once I will say it again. The app was not ready for prime time.

Exactly so for now I sit on 3.1.2 (too much of a pain in the ass to downgrade to 3.0.1 again just to jailbreak after everything I have done all day) and I will just wait for the dev team to update redsnow or something.

Looks like I am headed for a restore...

I got it to work, but mistakenly installed Cydia and Rock and Icy. They are not behaving well together.

Is there a way to uninstall Icy and Rock and leave Cydia?

jb both my iPhone 3GS' with blackra1n. both were jb 3.0.1 and updated to 3.1.2 and it rained for 15 seconds....then I heard a faint melody in the background "here comes the sun la la la" :D

Anyone slagging geohot needs to CTFD. Its your decision to use the tool not his.

I have a 3G and yes I've had a right game JBing it - but thats my problem, not his.

Hummm.. so he puts out a not quite ready for prime time tool and it's our fault if we take his recommendation and try to use it.

Not hardly.

And I am not hating on GeoHot, he's got major talent and major smarts...

But he does have a track record of rushing these things out.

So you had trouble- that doesn't mean anything is 'not ready'.

Exit iTunes. Open the Windows services.msc and stop/start the Apple Mobile Device Service.

Then try the jailbreak. Ask on various ipod hacking forums for more help...

So if I understand correctly he used to be part of the dev team what happened? Im kinda curious if it was over some sort of stuff regarding jailbreaking no wonder this crap don't work.

Well here's what worked for me (Jb'd 3G). I'm running Windows 7, right click exe and go properties. Compatibility tab, check box next to disable visual themes. Under privilege level check box next to "run this program as admin". Then run the exe and everything went fine.

No GeoHot was one of the DevTeam, but I think it was a personality thing that lead to him going his own way.

That said, GeoHot is brilliant and I'm sure his talents had nothing to do with the split.

I think his stuff is awesome, but he rushes it out, unlike the DevTeam which takes more time to field test stuff.

However, I'm sure there are hundreds, maybe thousands of newly jailbroken iPhone/iPod owners who are thankful he rushed it out so quickly.

And there seem to be more than a few others who are frustrated that he released it so quickly.

hmm well back to 3.1.2 w/out jailbreak

Played with son's iPhone 2g all day after the jailbreak. Jailbreak went fine... however, things started becoming unresponsive... This used to be my iPhone and that was why I got rid of jailbreak last time, it was sluggish etc... Doing a restore now. I had cydia installed and it never acted right... it didn't know what version it, itself was and took forever to initialize, and then keyboard input was terrible lagging.

Hat's off to geohot for a good JB, but everything else needs to catch up to 3.1.2 IMO.
