How do I remove Five Columns on an iPod Touch G3?

LOL...this one is easy...Just open Cydia, go to packages, find your Five Column and click the update button. It will ask do you want to reinstall or remove...take your pick:)

Wrong. I forgot to mention that I kept getting an error :/
But what you do is, go into SBsettings and disable it there, then remove it.

Ok guys. Did my wifes and my 16gb 3g iPhones. I did a complete restore on mine and did it on a vista laptop. I just kept unplugging the cable and close out blackra1n when it would get stuck on the iTunes USB logo on the phone. Just kept doing until the geohot pic appeared. I didn't do a restore on my wifes phone. Took about two tries to get the pic on hers. Just keep trying. It will eventually work.

Hummm.. so he puts out a not quite ready for prime time tool and it's our fault if we take his recommendation and try to use it.

Not hardly.

And I am not hating on GeoHot, he's got major talent and major smarts...

But he does have a track record of rushing these things out.

How was this rushed? My 3GS was jailbroken in 30 seconds? Would you prefer the jailbreak to take 30 minutes? Or would you prefer Dev Team to release their jailbreak in 2010? I'm going for jailbreaking in 30 seconds and Dev Team in 2010. With the amount of people saying this is working, taking into account that quite a few problems people are having are probably their own fault... I'd say this was released right when it should be. If you followed on Twitter, people was about to kill Geohot if he didn't hurry up and release it. He acknowledged on his Twitter 3g would be flakey, but 3GS worked fine. If its not working for someone, try it on a different computer. Blackra1n crashed on a Windows 7 computer, but jailbroke my iPhone from a Vista machine within 30 seconds.

@ The loser who said they would not let this touch their device and will only wait for Dev Team.... Geohot was the original jailbreaker for the iPhone, and was a part of the Dev Team. He was to good for Dev Team. You wont see a release from them until 2010, or they will be jailbreaking iPhone 3.1 once iPhone 4.0 is out.

If you like a pretty interface, wait for Dev Team...

No GeoHot was one of the DevTeam, but I think it was a personality thing that lead to him going his own way.

That said, GeoHot is brilliant and I'm sure his talents had nothing to do with the split.

I think his stuff is awesome, but he rushes it out, unlike the DevTeam which takes more time to field test stuff.

However, I'm sure there are hundreds, maybe thousands of newly jailbroken iPhone/iPod owners who are thankful he rushed it out so quickly.

And there seem to be more than a few others who are frustrated that he released it so quickly.

Hundreds? Thousands of newly jailbroken iPhones/iPods... I'd have to say BS. This topped Twitter most of the morning this morning, and probably would have been on there a lot longer, however due to the fact at how fast it came out of no where to topping twitter, It seemed twitter kept "killing it" from being displayed as top trending topics. I'd say there are much more then a few hundred/thousand jailbreakers, much more.

And I personally hate waiting. Especially for something thats already working. He could have delayed it for another 3 months and added a fancy interface, and still had a few random people complain because they are doing something wrong, or he could release now, make 90% of the population extremely happy, and realize that nothing is perfect, including anything that Dev Team puts out, and simply live with it.

Here's what I figure.
I'm only really using it for a few things. (Battery Percentage, MakeItMine [Which I can live without], Winterboard, and a few tweaks.)
Basically cosmetics. If it turns out I don't like it, I'll remove it, but that's only because I'm tethered and it's a pain in the ass to have to plug it in to restart it.

So If we are on Macs, we have to wait?

This takes 2 minutes to get to a windows computer, and then jailbreak the device there. Unplug, and be on your way. If you really cannot get to a Windows computer in what ever 3rd world country you may live in that doesn't support Windows, oh my

Well I was a little nervous on my new 3Gs but I decided to go for it. I am running Vista and I placed blackra1n on the main C drive and just clicked it. Worked like a ****ing charm! Easiest jailbreak in the world.

I successfully jailbroke my iPhone 3gs 3.1.2 in bootcamp with blackra1n. After that I installed some stuff with cydia and one of them being winterboard so I had to reboot. When it reboots it hangs on the apple logo and shuts off. Anyone else have this problem? I am restoring to 3.1.2 at the moment.

Because this jailbreak is tethered on the G3 iPod Touch, how do I remove the jailbreak if I wanted to?

Winterboard worked fine earlier on my 3G/3.1.2. I haven't tried it out on my 3Gs/3.1.2 yet though however. Since I have all this memory I do plan to use Winterboard a whole lot more!

So I've never jailbroken any of my iphones (have had an iphone since the original). I'm a little nervous about using blackra1n. Is there a chance of permanently damaging an iphone trying to jailbreak it?

I have a 3GS with 3.1.2 (latest?) installed and never installed anything on it that wasn't from the app store.

Geohot said on twitter "definitely, if everyone donated a dollar who downloaded #blackra1n, i'd be a millionaire by the end of the week :-D" He may be exaggerating a little, but I imagine he's not too far off.

He said he had over 250,000 hits to blackrain in the couple of days he had it up before the release

And of course you are entitled to your opinion. Must have bothered you alot to get you to type so much.

And your 2010 prediction for the DevTeam, just a "little" over the top ?

yeah it might not be winterboard. All I know is that when it had to reboot it tried got to the apple logo and hang there then shut off. It does that everytime you try to start it up unless you go into recovery mode.

In Working Order

Hey Guys,

New to the thread. Ironic that I literally started checking out jailbreaking my 3gs this afternoon.

I am running a dell xps with vista 32-bit, and the latest version of itunes.

Just completed the blackra1n jailbreak with ease. Here's what I did:

1. read about it.
2. read some more about it.
3. made a cocktail to calm my nerves over possibly having to start all over.
4. re-read everything I had just read for the past two hours.
5. downloaded the blackra1n.exe file.
6. read some more.
7. made the plunge. plugged in my iphone 3gs, and updated it to the latest
3.1.2 firmware.
8. made another cocktail while it was downloading/updating.
9. once update finished, backed up the iphone.
10. moved the blackra1n file to the desktop.
11. with itunes running, iphone on and connected, double clicked blackra1n, then make it rain.
12. in about 10 seconds, the photo with the flying iphones appeared on the iphone screen. (a window in itunes came up saying it detected an iphone in recovery, which i ignored)
13. the blackra1n diagnostic said it was done, and rebooting...
14. rebooted successfully, and installed cydia and updated in accordingly.
15. made a celebratory cocktail.

Note: at some point between clicking "make it rain" and the photo appearing/disappearing, the recovery picture (usb to cd) briefly showed on the iphone screen. I'm afraid due to my cocktailing I cannot pinpoint exactly when this occurred, just that it did, and it's normal.

good luck!

I have 64gb 3g ipt with 3.1.2 installed. Itunes 9.0.1 installed. Running Vista 32 bit.
With itunes closed, I plug in ipt, run blackra1n.exe, click on Make It Rain, then screen shows the USB cable and Itunes logo on ipt. blackra1n.exe screen says "Entering Recovery". that's it...nothing else happens.

I open itunes, get the message to restore or else, and i hit restore, but no JB. Blackra1n.exe then says "Done". Very confused here as to what I am doing wrong.

here is log:

INFO: welcome to blackra1n for windows
INFO: loaded dll at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin\iTunesMobileDevice.dll
INFO: button clicked
INFO: callbacks registered
INFO: internal device callback called
INFO: sent enter recovery command
