Wow ... painless operation. Between Blackra1n to JB and restoring Cydia apps using PkgBackup, other then downloading the 200MB firmware from Apple the whole thing took around 15 minutes. 3GS using Windows 7 64bit.
Guys does push notification under blackra1n work?
I installed blackra1n earlier today (without restore) and received push notifications through eBay just fine.
I have 64gb 3g ipt with 3.1.2 installed. Itunes 9.0.1 installed. Running Vista 32 bit.
With itunes closed, I plug in ipt, run blackra1n.exe, click on Make It Rain, then screen shows the USB cable and Itunes logo on ipt. blackra1n.exe screen says "Entering Recovery". that's it...nothing else happens.
I open itunes, get the message to restore or else, and i hit restore, but no JB. Blackra1n.exe then says "Done". Very confused here as to what I am doing wrong.
here is log:
INFO: welcome to blackra1n for windows
INFO: loaded dll at C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\bin\iTunesMobileDevice.dll
INFO: button clicked
INFO: callbacks registered
INFO: internal device callback called
INFO: sent enter recovery command
Hey Guys,
New to the thread. Ironic that I literally started checking out jailbreaking my 3gs this afternoon.
I am running a dell xps with vista 32-bit, and the latest version of itunes.
Just completed the blackra1n jailbreak with ease. Here's what I did:
1. read about it.
2. read some more about it.
3. made a cocktail to calm my nerves over possibly having to start all over.
4. re-read everything I had just read for the past two hours.
5. downloaded the blackra1n.exe file.
6. read some more.
7. made the plunge. plugged in my iphone 3gs, and updated it to the latest
3.1.2 firmware.
8. made another cocktail while it was downloading/updating.
9. once update finished, backed up the iphone.
10. moved the blackra1n file to the desktop.
11. with itunes running, iphone on and connected, double clicked blackra1n, then make it rain.
12. in about 10 seconds, the photo with the flying iphones appeared on the iphone screen. (a window in itunes came up saying it detected an iphone in recovery, which i ignored)
13. the blackra1n diagnostic said it was done, and rebooting...
14. rebooted successfully, and installed cydia and updated in accordingly.
15. made a celebratory cocktail.
Note: at some point between clicking "make it rain" and the photo appearing/disappearing, the recovery picture (usb to cd) briefly showed on the iphone screen. I'm afraid due to my cocktailing I cannot pinpoint exactly when this occurred, just that it did, and it's normal.
good luck!
I'm running 3.1.2 on a never JB'd 3G S, and there are apps that just don't work. SBSettings (Tried downloading from Cydia and Rock, it doesn't come down when I swipe), Poof (I can turn apps on and off, but they don't disappear), and Backgrounder (It's obviously a 3G S, so if I hold the home button it enables voiceover, and if I put it on the power button it comes up with the "slide to turn off" screen).
Can anyone tell me how I can get these apps working, if they are working?

This takes 2 minutes to get to a windows computer, and then jailbreak the device there. Unplug, and be on your way. If you really cannot get to a Windows computer in what ever 3rd world country you may live in that doesn't support Windows, oh my![]()
I'm joining this blackrain party a little late. Is there a tutorial or can someone post quick notes to run this....? I have jailbraking experience on a amature level
Is anyone elses Cydia Backspace button in search broken?
Working fine for me. It didn't work when I JB about 4 months ago then just started working on day so give it some time.
Well we now have two 3GSs JB on 3.1.2!!!!![]()
Yah! Super smooth!!!
SBS settings did lock up on "Restarting Springboard" on one phone but just turned phone off then back on and it had loaded fine and all was well.

Ok ppl, I have an iPhone3G and I can confirm blackrain DOES WORK. And I can also confirm that the problems users are having, I also encountered them.
I think that this jailbreak is the simplest, but very strange and I'll tell you why; it's because you have to do the process a couple times before it works.
Here's what I did.
1. I first downloaded the latest iTunes and upgraded to 3.1.2 firmware for iPhone 3G.
2. I downloaded blackrain.
3. Restarted computer.
4. Plugged in iPhone and began running blackrain.
5. No logo showed, iPhone went into recovery.
6. I then went in to DFU mode (hold Power and Home for 5 secs) iPhone shut off.
7. Turned it back on and it was fine (could sync into iTunes).
8. Ran blackrain again.
9. No logo showed, iPhone went into recovery.
10. Repeated steps 6-7
11. Unplugged and replugged iPhone and did step 8 and finally showed that hideous logo.
11. Waited for reboot.
12. Installed Cydia.
Well, that was MY experience with this jailbreak. It took me 3 times to get this to work. I wrote this down in hopes that this will help any of you who is stuck.
Good luck.
