Eh... This is nothing new. Remember when all the Apps on the 10.5 were blown up and pixelated at launch? Just give it one to three weeks for the major Apps to get an update and maybe a month or two for the smaller guys.

Facebook still doesn't look right on the 12.9. I think some developers care more than others.

Google Hangouts isn’t any better either. And for a chat app best used in slide over or split screen, it doesn’t support it. Boo.

How about notability? The MS office apps?

MSApps aren't bad. they're all using the auto layout functionality. So you have a thin black bar at top and bottom because its not built for the rounded corners. Microsoft is one of the few big guys who tends to keep up with updates. I would expect this to update in a short period of time.

Facebook app even not yet support 10.5 inch iPad!

Facebook has never been optimized for any iPad other than the 9.7" screen. I've always found it a bit odd as their Messenger app has been updated for all screens and can even do split view.

Notability has been pretty good at updating their app for new screen sizes. Same with MS Office I believe.

Notability has already been updated. MS office not yet, but I bet within a week, two at most. iPad is a cornerstone of their subscription strategy.

DOn’t hold your breath for Google (remember that Meet doesn’t even run on OSX Safari) or Facebook (because they just don’t seem to care about users); but there’s been a steady flow of updated apps today. I’m waiting for day one, affinity, MS, and Evernote - I expect they will all be in line by the end of nov at the latest.

This is why im skipping it , it's truly a mockery when you put up a device for such a redonkulous price and then you get hit in the head by that nasty / ancient 4:3 aspect ratio with huge black bars and to top it all off get months late updates for apps / games and bear with it.

Thanks but no thanks.

That is why I'm not skipping it. Sure, not everything will look good. But the apps that do fit correctly will more than make up for a few bad eggs in my opinion. It feels like throwing the baby out with the bath water to skip this device because there's not 100% adoption just yet (on day 2 no less!). I'm moving forward with Apple. And if some apps get left behind in the dust, so be it. Couldn't be worse than all my 32-bit apps going away. That's the price of progress and I don't mind moving on.

So thanks Apple!

Well have to say that it does takes the wow out of the first impression all those black bars, but kinda used to that as early adopter. I expect most will be ok in a week of 2-3.

I'm still quite surprised that after introducing the 10.5" with a new resolution just last year that they've already added another one with the 11" and a different aspect ratio.
A different aspect ratio = more $$$. gotta get us off our 10.5s somehow..

And they are barely noticeable. I’m a heavy Teams/PowerPoint/Whiteboard/OneNote/Planner user and they are all fine

Heavy OneNote user here.

It isn’t terrible, but very much looking forward to the update.

With MS products, I, like many pay a subscription and therefore would be “disgruntled” if they didn’t optimize quickly.

Wow, I did not know whiteboard was released for iOS. I have been looking forward to it. Collaboration that is restricted to iPad users is a non-starter, unless perhaps if you work for Apple, so a multi-platform whiteboard was exactly what was needed.

Does it work well?

Oh gosh I love this app. I find it works well, but hard for me to tell because we’re on satellite internet so it’s a bit laggy, but the fact that it works at all is wonderful!

That's perfectly OKAY ! I mean this whole capitalistic society is founded by people who pay double for less features and old aspect ratio's with each passing year , more power to them ! /s :)

The other part of a capitalistic society is having those with sour grapes watching others get something they can't have.

I currently have no iPad and have been without since the beginning of July (lost it in a fire along with my Apple watch [pssst... I'm giving Apple even MORE money for that, ha ha ha!]). All the petty, snarky comments to my post are really a waste of time. You worry about your purchases and I'll go ahead and do the worrying for mine.

I'm really glad I was aware of this before I went and bought one.

That said, I still chose to buy one, and totally forgot about it once I got home and opened up the box. A few hours later and I was like, "oh yeah, I should check the black bars" and realized, yeah, it isn't ideal but clearly doesn't really bother me.

What bothers me most is that I tend to grab it in a way that my palm hides the Face ID every freaking time I pick it up. lol.

I’m not worried about the new aspect ratio of the 11” at all. Any apps I use will soon be optimized. Actually one benefit of the new aspect ratio is video. It’s closer to 16:9 cinema. I noticed at the Apple store when comparing the 11” & 12.9” that the black bars were smaller on the 11” when watching video.
