I'm sure there's a bad batch somewhere, such behaviour can NOT be seen of iphone X at display in apple stores !

The bottom half of my display is cool/blue and the top half is yellow. Looks a lot less noticeable with True Tone off but it’s still there. I’ve played the screen lottery before and I️ hate it, so I️ may just try to stick with this one and hope I get used to it.

My 7 Plus had unevenness at the top of the screen from left to right and after about a month I️ stopped noticing it. Hoping the same happens here, and that in the future screens will be produced without these defects.

The blue shift is quite bad. Don't see such severe shift at such small angle tilt on my S8+.

I just called Apple care,
I was the first call ever about iphoneX so the guy was completely clueless and did not provide any help.
They suggested I restart the phone. And send feedback on apple.com's feedback form.
yeah right...
They also told me they are "never replacing phones" ; they might need a training about european laws.

Ah crap. Mine is a C39 as well, and first thing I though when I started using was how yellow it was, even with TT off. Let's not talk about TT on, because it's just plain yellow. Did the hue thing, but then I feel it's too blue.... And vanilla setting shows a strong shift in color from warm on top to cold on bottom while looking at the phone straight on. Back to Apple it goes then, but I have a feeling that i'm going to get shafted with the waiting time. Managed to snag one at launch just to loose it for weeks would suck hard.

Can someone post the link to where your iPhone was manufactured and date etc? What factories are the ones that are getting the screen problems?
[doublepost=1509978247][/doublepost]I’m not a tech geek. I know this is a tough question. But how does one know for sure if their screen is defective?

So just like all you folks, I was so excited about this phone and was an early adopter and got stuck with on with an ugly yellow screen. Please read my experience below trying to get a replacement at the Apple store, and would apprecaite any advice on what to do next:

Essentially I got off work at 5pm and the apple store closed at 6pm so I ran over there to tell them about the yellow screen tint issue. First they said that it was too close to closing and that need to setup an appointment for later. I showed the person the screen and they were like yea it looks yell and they will see what they can do. So they were like we gonna go ahead and exchange out for a new replacement. I was like sweet problem should be solved. So they replace it and the new phone has the same yellow tint. It also is the same model # that they say is having problems on the forums. I say I want to compare it to the floor model and the floor model looks PERFECT. I show them all this...and all their workers essentially are saying the model has nothing to do with it and that they all see no difference in the screen. Essentially saying I’m crazy and that’s all in my head. I’m furious because now I have seen with my own eyes the floor models look totally perfect and normal and that I got screwed with the defective batch. I say I want to try another replacement and they deny saying they won’t open another one, especially because it’s not a “real problem”. They also show me some apple BS website talking about the variability in the iPhone OLED. I say well then, screw it, I want to return this phone completely. The manager comes by and says that because they have already replaced my original one I can’t return it. I’m like shocked because no one ever said that when they were doing it and she acknowledges it was their mistake not to have clarified it because they were in a rush being close to closing. Pretty much its showdown and the whole store is closed with only me there and a bunch of there workers and manager. I refuse to leave and they say they can’t give me refund anymore nor will they give me another replacement. So manager ends up giving me like $200 in apple credit and says sorry you are so upset, have some Apple Wireless AirPods or whatever you want on us. At this point I was so frustrated that I took the $200 and left.

Long story short: My screen is still yellow and now I can’t even return it. I’m hoping this becomes a bigger issue over time as more people get it and that Apple will have to do something about it later. I had to manually change the color/hue settings based on recommendations here and it improved it somewhat but it’s still not as good as the proper batch models, which sucks for such an expensive phone

What do you guys think I should do? There are no other Apple Stores in my area. I am no Verizon and gonna go to the Verizon store today to see if this yellow tint issue is specific to Verizon model phones (the A18s cdma chip set). Do you think calling Apple corporate would help? Now I am stuck with this phone and can't even return it. Thanks for the input!!

Called Verizon and they told me I could go to a corporate store and inform them of this problem. He went into say they would look at it too. And if they agree, they would overnight one to me. I’m going to look at their display models as a reference. As far as I know, mine might be ok.

I'm sorry that you had to go through this tremendous situation! My phone is yet to deliver, I'll decide if I should keep it or return it. One of my cousins got his phone and I checked it out. Honestly I'm saying that yellow tint is so disgusting and irritating. I'm really disappointed and frustrated at the same time because I don't have any other alternatives!!

I really feel sorry for you guy.
It's at tcook@apple.com you should send all that, not (only) to macrumors...

I'm sure a replacement program will be put in place IF WE MOVE OUR ASSES. Otherwise it's easy money for them if you don't complain. This is flagship guys. Tolerance to imperfection should be 0. Or they win & laugh !

I have a C39 Silver phone.

With True Tone on it is a bit warm for sure (towards yellow), more noticeable under indoor lighting and very subtle outdoors. It is NOT piss yellow or offensive to look at.
With True Tone off it is a bit bluish (but fairly close to D65, as compared with my Eizo calibrated monitor)

When switching True Tone off you do need to walk away for a minute and come back to it otherwise the brain gets confused by the sudden change and it can look very blue.

The screen is very even in terms of uniformity. Off axis does go bluish but small angle changes are fine. i.e. The angle of view before the shift is a problem is acceptable to me

Is there anyone that doesn't have a yellowish True Tone on result? This is not about whether you like it or not. But does anyone see what they consider a neutral, non-tinted white with True Tone on? I get that there is variance from phone to phone in how yellow it goes with TT enabled, but I am unsure if anyone has a neutral TT enabled result.

Conspiracy theory fun. True Tone is intentionally a bit yellow to reduce the appearance of the blue off axis shift!?! :D

What about the light colour shift to blue/more cool when turning your phone a few degrees to left/right on the y-axis. Has that gone too with your good Panel?

Unfortunately no getting around that. And because of that and other reasons I'm returning the X and going with an 8 Plus. The X isn't ready for prime time. And I really wish they'd just use an LCD for the X. OLED hasn't met my expectations. THe 8 Plus does everything the X does and does it better, for less money. And touchID unlock on the 8+ is shockingly fast.

This is unacceptable, and sorry to hear they werent up front with you on the return situation. Yellow screen veterans know to always do a retail return then rebuy. Dont even bother trying to explain the screen to the employees.

I don’t really care about the blue color shift, however I do care when my phone screen looks yellow. I have changed the hue slider, but to me it’s not really a fix and not accurate enough to calibrate.

Don’t really want to take back the phone and wait a month. Already sold my old phone. Sucks

There are two issues with keeping the "blue shifted iphone X"

1) everyone thinks the screen is the only "debatable" problem on the X. FaceID is great. So if you keep it , bad news : it's 100% certain that the next iteration will get.. a better screen !
2) if we don't return them, they mush laugh aloud at the HQ that they really can sell you anything at any price, and that you would even ask for more.

These are the two reasons why either Apple provides an exchange program for the "more blueish" of us IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS or they'll get "off the charts" return rates as well.

I might be dreaming, but when I see it's because of people like me who fought for their rights that we got the "retina staingate" quality program on macbooks, I'll fight as much as I can to get a similar quality program for the "flagship" iphone.

And I might fail. But at least I have tried :)

I just spent 15 minutes playing with an iPhone X demo unit in an electronics store in Sweden.

I was quite happy to see that I didn't notice any pentile weirdness, but the blue shift was quite dramatic.

The really bad thing on this unit was the if you looked at it just 10-15 degrees towards the left (i.e move head towards left while the phone is stationary), the screen turned blue.

In the other direction, the screen stayed white up until like 40-45 degrees.

I could see this being insanely annoying. Anyone else noticed something like this?

(True Tone was disabled.)

My screen is amazing. True tone off or on It's a great OLED Panel. I have a GSM model AT&T model. Purchased from apple. I do notice the blue color screen at off axis angles but it's faint. Not like the Pixel 2 XL. I would return it. If it looks like that.

I have the AT&T 256gb SG, (F1) and the screen looks great to me (I look obsessively for dead pixels, non-uniform color, etc. I compared mine to several of the display models at the Apple Store on Saturday, and mine looked brighter with better color than all of them. I made sure that the display settings were the same).

I lived with the original Pixel XL and the Galaxy S8+ for a month, and the blue shift was horrible on those phones: the slightest angle would cause the color to shift dramatically, much worse than my X. I wondered why people were so in love with OLED screens because my iPhone 7 Plus looked much better to my eye.

My thoughts? There is a front page story in MR now about how good the iPhone X displays are. Conclusion is you got a defect. :(

Thank you guys for all the feed back and I appreciate the responses. The problem is now I am stuck as can not even return the phone since they had replaced it without notifying of me of that stipulation. I am not an apple fan or hater, but just a person who appreciates a good product..and I will happily say that iphone is an excellent phone. The fact that the screen is yellow when there are clearly other models that look fantastic is maddening though, especially after having spent $1000 on this thing after excitedly waking up at 3am to order.

Do you feel contacting Apple Corporate will be of any benefit? I will try to email Tim Cook (loll) as one of the posters suggested, but don't know what other options there are. The store I have been does not acknowledge there is any issue with the phone so wont give me another replacement, and feels that the issue is resolved since they gave $200 apple credit for the troubles, though knowing that it was their mistake that I can no longer even return this phone anymore.

Be aware that those wearing glasses, that some AR coatings block out some of the blue light. I know mine does, and when I put them on, they will make whites look slightly warmer. Easy to test on a computer. Put up white screen, with glasses off look at the white, put glasses on, if the white is a little warmer, you do have a more premium AR coating.

You laugh but emailing Tim almost always gets result. The emails are routed to the Executive Relations customer care team. They will likely do a retail swap for you, especially if you explain your situation. You will then be able to return the phone. Thumbs up for Apple customer care. I just with the hardware was better.

This happens every year tbh. I think the screens need a couple weeks to settle before you can really judge. But with night shift/true tone, you can manipulate the warmth/coolness of the screen. So I don't feel like this is a huge issue.

I don't notice that the screen is any warmer face-on than previous iPhones but there is definitely a noticeable blue shift when viewed from off-angles, especially with a largely white image on the screen (Messages, Settings, Safari, etc). As many others have said, this seems to be par for the OLED course.

Has anybody else noticed that Night Shift on the X gets much warmer than on the 7 Plus at maximum? Even with True Tone turned off.
