Is this a widespread thing? Dont want to enter the screen lottery if it is.

It is but the brightness between top and bottom can be day and night (big issue) or very slight (non-issue)

My partners day 1is so gradual you won't even notice unless u go looking for it. Mine however is very obvious.

number starting with F2

ya all the ones I've seen that are bad are generally F2

My serial is FK

Its weird. Mine on a solid white background cant notice at all. But when I open emails and compare the top email to bottom, I can tell.

I just got used to it , hopefully the will fix it at least a little with software update

Good find. U are right.

However I can show u 2 phones right now next to each that look different without True Tone on

yeah, i believe it.

Actually i haven't found any great differences in the devices i tried (i've tried many!), so i believe that there are very fault units and a majority of similar units with very slight differences in the temperature / eveness.

Hey so of all your iPhone X, how many were a tad darker at the top and brighter at the bottom?

I noticed on my X a few days ago this while in the emails. Its slightly brighter at the bottom left then the rest of the screen. Noticed it too of my buddies.

From my own personal experience, yes

i went to a few phone shops, i think all but one had the same issue. mine does. its annoying and i don't really understand why its happening if they are lit differently to standard back lights.

Most likely it has something to do with the internal components and their arrangement in the chassis: there could be more pressure on some parts of the display from the inside.

Today I got my replacement iPhone X. My old one was an F2 with terrible colorshift. The new one is an G6 and it has a better display, which seems more clear with better contrast and has less colorshift when changing the viewing angle.

But the yellowish tint is not much better. I think I will learn to live with that ;)

Besides that no other negativ effects so far..

Pure luck

My f2 is good and I think I had c(?)6 that were crap

I’m not a huge believer in narrowing down by serial or even factory (first 2)

The real question is whose ready to replay this game all over again next year? :D

G6, all the display units in NYC are G6.

Could anyone with a “good” display post a comparison against an iPhone 7/8?

The three iPhone X’s I’ve tried are just much more yellow when I compare to my iPhone 7. Would be good to see how far off my latest iPhone X is from normal before I give up and ditch the X.

Thanks

I have a mix of iPhone X devices in our offices right now. AT&T, Tmo, Verizon. I won't admit to having the best eyesight in the world, but side by side, with all the brightness turned at the same level, TTon or TToff....I really can't tell any difference between how they look. Regardless of carrier, they all look the same to me, which is to say great.

I have noted that the Verizon phones seem to have better LTE speeds, as evidenced by the Qualcomm posts made earlier today, particularly since we aren't in a high tower strength area. And I've heard from other users that the "OLED lotto" favored some carrier batches of phones with "better" OLED screens than others. But frankly, I find zero differences between the various iPhone X devices we have here on hand right now.

I don’t think anyone is arguing OLED screens are favored in one model over another

I had to return my phone due to the screen clicking. The serial number started within G0 and the screen was quite nice. I received the replacement and the serial number starts with F2. I compared the screens and the G0 was better. Not by much, but a little whiter.
I haven’t noticed any other defects yet so I think I’ll keep the F2. I’m really getting tired of returning phones.

mine is brighter on the bottom, but it’s barely noticible even in the dark. But I am going to the Apple store soon for pink edges on the screen

what are the most units someones gone through and either gotten a good one eventually, or given up on this X?

im getting my third retail box replacement this week from Apple executive relations. Its a hassle with the upgrade program. If the third one isnt better Im giving up.

Edit- second replacement but third phone overall.

My first phone screen was amazing but had that loud popping sound. Second screen is uneven brightness.

How do you get retail replacements with the iUP?
