I think Ive given up and I'm going back to my 7Plus JAILBROKEN

This one I had had an exposed frame by the vol BUTTONS and face ID sucked so I exchanged

And low and behold, hot pink bunny ears and the slightest off axis shift and the whole
Display turns this intense pink

Sucks cause I liked the X a lot
But quality control is horrendous on this release

If my att model got good receptiOn in my
Apt like my 7Plus att i would have never bothered and gone down swap hell

I don’t blame you. I have another couple X SIM free arriving tomorrow and if there isn’t one that doesn’t have a disgusting screen and doesn’t crackle to all hell, I will be giving up on the X as my daily driver and most likely going to a Galaxy Note 8 (which I already have and love). The 8+ is nice but the width is annoying on a day to day basis. I’m so disappointed in Apple right now. I have sent emails to corporate (not like they’ll ever get back to me) but honestly this whole things leaves a horribly bad taste in my mouth regarding Apple. I actually wanted a new MacBook Pro for Christmas but it makes me rethink the whole thing sadly. :I

I'm anal retentive, for sure, but I can't remember the last time I've been in this bad of swap hell.

10.5 I gave up after a few and wanted the bigger 12.9 and nailed it first shot

I'm over it. By the time I get a good unit (if I do) I'll be banned fromcreturns and/or x2 will be out

I agree, we are picky but we know what to look for and it’s simply unacceptable to pay this much for a phone and have the quality control treated like we are buying an iPhone 5c. This is supposed to be their “premium” phone. I understand they manufacture a million a day or whatever and I really don’t care when the one we get in our hands has a new issue every time. :/ I’m considering calling AppleCare and escalating this issue as I am not happy.

I have a Samsung wireless charger that's useless now and a s1 on watchos4

Both will probably get put to use sometime eventually but not for now

Apples loss. I'm not a X customer and I've returned more than I care to admit.

I don't wanna show face at my local apppe store for a while

Also the displays that are sensitive to off axis ARE ATROCIOUS

the *slightest* off angle results in that pink crap

It's like going from an IPS display (7+) to TN

Especially a bummer bc I'm an OLED enthusiast in general I've always been a bit jealous android is ahead for years on that, and love my Lg OLED tv

Good choice. It sucks, but really I'm much happier since I gave up on the X. The novelty/desire has waned and now I'm perfectly cool with the 8. Next year will be better.

It's absurd. Looking for a diamond in the rough to not have a regression from my

I'm sorry that the X didn't work out for you. Mine isn't perfect but I can live with it. It has a very faint pink line (1mm) running down the right side and of course the pink/blue off axis shift, but is otherwise white and even with no yellow (True Tone off) when looking at it. It's a shame we were looking forward to finally getting an OLED screen on the phone only to find out it is worse than LCD in general.

I agree. It seems all we can do at this point is keep documenting it with AppleCare and hope that someone from engineering gets ahold of the information and will make it right. I do have a contact person now at least (senior advisor). My new units arrive tomorrow, it’s sad that I am almost afraid to unbox them. I also agree about not wanting to go into the Apple store which is why I am now doing it online only...lol.

I wish you could hear the speaker on this one. It is the worst I have ever heard, it literally will start crackling during some frequencies even at 50% volume on phone calls. And OF COURSE this one has the best display I have ever had. Go figure ARGGG!

Thats the thing, even if you get a good display, you got a laundry list of other functional issues to check for. in my case, ATT X was borderline inoperable where my ATT 7+ isn't

thats a bummer.

Honestly, I think you’re just looking for trouble. I have a way to solve your issue:

1. Get an iPhone X
2. Enjoy the phone

Look for perfection in the things you do, not the things you own. Every phone described in this entire thread seems like a fine device to me.

That’s just my advice. Some people here make 5, 6 replacements - that crazy!

Hope I didn’t anger anyone. Ignore my post if you disagree.

1. Return to Jailbroken 7+
2. See $1100 return to my card
3. Enjoy the even better screen on it than the one that shipped with it a year ago (I shattered it a month ago and got a screen replacement)

You're Not offending me but these display issues and QC are ridiculous period but especially for

My screen is weird. It’s white straight on. But when barely tilting the phone, it turns to an incredibly blue white tint. Then looking at my screen straight on, it looks yellow even though it isn’t. It’s tricking my eyes.

Is that what people mean by extreme blue tint?

Hey, getting money back is always good. It’s just that I do believe you’re ruining your experience while looking for a perfect display. It’s a phone, not a professional monitor. And the fact it costs so much does not imply some magical hand-picked screen. This is the state of OLED screens in 2017. And they are still good, have a lot of advantages over LCDs and some disadvantages.

I remember, years ago, when I got a Cintiq 21” for 2000 euros. It had a dead pixel. Wacom didn’t accept it under warranty at the time (unless you had more than 3 dead pixels) and the store I got it from didn’t have replacements so I could either return it or enjoy it as it is. I chose the latter. Soon, I forgot that pixel was even there. I also remember the Wacom forums. A lot of people had dead pixels and they were furious. They expected “perfect screens for the asking price” too. Then someone there explained it: that’s how LCD tech is (at the time, dead pixels were more common). The high price is because of the product, not a guarantee of perfection. TLDR: the fact iPhone X costs more doesn’t mean it’s supposed to be 100% flawless. That doesn’t exist. No price will guarantee absolute perfection. If you consider a certain amount of money worthy of perfection, that amount is probably too expensive for you.

Either way, I think you made a good choice - if you’re satisfied in the end.

Nope. People made similar obssesive-compulsive threads for LCD screens here too.

True but could be something to this

60 pages for this thread a month and a week after release is ... a lot?

Yeah it's not that $999 would have to necessitate quality. I know it won't. It just seems like more of a gamble than the usual for even more money?

To be honest two of my three units had crap face ID too. I swear one would read all the time and other two wouldn't. After multiple recalibration but only one needed for one unit

Could be some tolerance give on that too

Just frustrated for something t I was enjoying. Going back to jailbreak is a godsend but the surfboard huge phone? Eh

Still

Hi guys, I just received my phone today. In addition to the color shifts, I'm not sure if I have some red/pink tint on one side the phone. I'm debating if I should try to exchange it out. Let me know what you guys think I should do. thanks!
Hi I am pretty familiar with the pink issue because my Samsung S8+ purchased last spring has this issue. Samsung released a software “fix” that allows people to go into the (always oversaturated) Adaptive Mode and adjust the hue of the edges of the display to at least match the rest of the display so the pink “frames” can be mitigated. This was a very common problem on launch phones. I started with Samsungs in 2016 and did not see nor really hear of pink tints on the S7 and S7 Edge. My S7 is a cool even white and my S7 Edge has a bit of an aqua tone. Color shift is a reality with OLED. There were other issues but not the pink so something about their manufacturing process in 2017 is yielding a crop of iridescent pink displays.

Samsung customer service was awful and it’s a long story but the point of it is I got stuck with the pink S8+ and can’t run it on regular modes and have been a bit disgruntled ever since. On a phone with curved edges pink borders are obnoxious.

Lo and behold I get the same issue but far less obnoxious on my X. It started as a very thin, very faint pink edge, slightly more prominent on the right side but easily ignored. I was truly content and considered my display flawless. I do not have gradients of color, banding, or color shift that’s particularly noticeable.

Then yesterday I started noticing that I was noticing the pink edges. Nothing about my personality nor my vision has changed. But I think the pink has become more diffuse and is encroaching on areas of the screen where I am starting to become distracted by it. On medium brightness it looks more noticeable and on True Tone, which was a horrid yellow the last time I looked, the display is now a bit salmon pink.

I believe the pink was spreading on my Samsung, too.

I’m not going through this again. I’ll play the damned lottery with it. But not now. I’m returning for a refund and going back to my 7 Plus for awhile. I will wait a few weeks or months until the X is more readily available in case the next phone is a qc failure.

Everything else about my X is great. There’s no dust, no crackling noises. I’m wary of returning it for that reason. But I’ve been through this with the Samsung and I don’t want to deal with it again.

I’m not super particular. I don’t obsess over scratches and I was fine with the pink as long as it stayed put. I’m just not sure it’s staying the same.

Blue is the off axis tint on many panels

Can't say, it's probably one of those perception things

Blue tint was never a problem with any of my units fwiw

Some displays were genuinely yellow straight on

But OLED seems to be a bit of a chameleon in different lighting more than LED IMO that may be what you're referring to

That’s the hard part, trying to determine if it is spreading. I use the edge of the forum text entry box as my guide. I am pretty sure the pink wasn’t touching the edge of the box until yesterday.

Mine had pink tint on right and top bunny ears off axis...

Probably coulda dealt but the chassis frame
Looking raggedy and exposed looking part by vol BUTTONS. Was a deal breaker

Cause it's not that I'm staring at it off axis but it laying on the table in front of me
I don't wanna be always reminded of it haha

In hindsight tho wayyyy better display than the final one I tried today

The faintest off axis (like literally a degree off from straight on) dingy red throughout. Unacceptable

Every 1 for 2 had it of my
Sample

My retail box replacement ships 2moro. If the screen is worse, im keeping my current phone and giving up. I dont think of it as a 1000$ phone, I think of it as 49$ a month. That I can justify since even with the pink edge, I think the phone is worth 49$ a month. Im on upgrade program FWIW.
