I’m waiting for people who ordered the sim less to give feedback on their panels..then I’ll probably order mine lol

Picked up two sim-free earlier this week week 47. One was super pink along edges like has been commonly reported and never even gave it a chance. The second is my current with a *near perfect nice and cool display + good uniformity on grey*- but speaker crackle is the worst I've heard and I don't want to have to live with it, as much as I want to for it's display- with it as it happens even at normal volume and while phone up to your ear. Therefore, I'm awaiting another one and praying the lottery will give me one with an at least OK speaker and a solid display. For what it's worth, the one I tried from Best Buy was the newest I've seen yet (week 48) and had the best speaker with no crackle at all so I have a feeling they've caught on, however shafting the early adopters unless having swapped.. Too bad that one was an Intel model and was horribly pink slightest off axis (and even slight while looking at it normally). i have an aversion to pink displays too, it's so off putting to me. If it's not one thing it's really another with these things. I have a senior rep involved at this point and hopefully we can find a solution to make me feel better about Apple at this point.

This is what a screen ought to look like, in my opinion. Only slightly blue at angle and good white uniformity- as much as possible at least with an OLED:

Ya I agree the displays are getting better.

Had a week 47, no red, no violet Truetone good but brighter left side but perfectly “white” in daylight

Had a week 46, good balance, possibly the best I’ve seen, screen tinted yellow. However no blue shift. Looking at it straight on and looking it at from the side lying on the table it was the same colour... yellow

Having the "pefrect white" in the daylight means anything to me.

In the daylight the most of the screen i tested make the magic with the true tone on: the turn into a pure white.

But me, like many other guys, is spending most of the time indoor, so this amazing feature become almost virtual.

This is going to sound like a dumb question but I really don’t know— what is the True Tone display supoosed to look like? I get either golden yellow or salmon pink and sometimes I get something I can only describe as iridescent pearlescent white (sort of a rainbow sheen) depending on the light around me. Is it just supposed to be plain white or cream colored?

Also, I think I’m going to just go jump off a bridge or something but when I went to show my husband my display’s pink edge problem, the damned thing was not there. Not visible at all. The only explanation I can think of is that the restaurant lighting suppressed it.

This happens to me all the freaking time, though. The microwave won’t work or the tv will act possessed or something electronic will just not work for me and (it’s like somebody posted earlier in either this thread or a similar one), the guy just has to stand nearby and whatever was wrong won’t manifest. Which would be great if we were cojoined twins and he was always with me. But he’s at work most of the day and as soon as he is gone, the stuff is back to acting defective.

The microwave in our last house was the worst offender. I swear that thing was possessed and hated me. It would turn on by itself just as I would get ready to put food in it. Every time I tried to open the door it would turn on and I would have to slam it shut. My husband would come over and it would stop messing with me and act normal.

Anyway the pink edge is back now. Of course it is. My husband is in bed asleep. It’s never going to appear when he looks at it. And I’ll look like a lunatic.

My screen is a bit yellow, I compare to a few units in store, and mine is sort of yellow (not by a lot - white color seems to be a bit more yellow but other colors seem to be more darker/vivid compare to the other models I've seen). On a highest brightness, its sorta pink on the left side of the screen/bottom. At 80% or lower, its not noticeable. I don't know whether I should lottery the display....this phone seems working fine. Ughh...iPhone drama...

Back for the daily dose of doom and gloom...

Two space grey X, 256gb. Both with truetone off and full auto brightness.

Left one leans to red but at least the clarity remains.

Right leans to blue very quickly which makes display washed out and look yellowey.

BELOW: This is a 100% yellow image on the right iphone X. Look how badly the top half shifts which makes the yellow look green!

Both of these phones look terrible to me.

Red and green!

Its Xmas time!

the right still looks better tho, but if its washed out, fogitaboutit

ugh this is making me less tempted to try my hand AGAIN (with intel radio, AGAIN) with a 2 year subsidy through ATT

--

Are you gonna return both and try two more, or whats your next move?

These aren't mine but I took the photos. I wanted to show people the very differences in quality we are all talking about here. I've got an 8 plus on order, these two phones cemented my decision despite my constant craving for the X.

Well let’s see, currently on Tru Tone at 50% brightness, inside of the house with ambient lighting coming from many windows. The tru tone screen is a very pale shade of baby aspirin orange.

With it off, I have pale pink ringing the edges with a bit of further incursion on the right side. The center is a nice shade of white that sometimes looks a bit blue depending on the ambient lighting around me. At around 25% brightness which is where I usually like to keep it, the same situation occurs but the pink seems to spread more into the white so that it’s more of a haze than a frame.

When the phone is first turned on it’s not so bad but the longer the display is on the worse it seems to get. That may be why it was not visible in the restaurant last night. Obviously among guests I’m not leaving my phone on for very long. Just long enough to snap a few photos of everyone together.

Looking at the pictures supplied in this thread, I suppose it could be much, much worse so I am quite torn about returning it.

The only other thing going wonky is my Face ID has gotten a bit laggy and requires me to input my passcode more lately. This is a very recent development. However, it does still work so I don’t think it’s gone defective. It might be related to the last update or something.

Has anyone else noticed their pink stains getting worse the longer the screen is on? I’m trying to determine if this is a true material defect of some sort or just a quirk of OLED. And I don’t trust only my own observation on it. I like to have more data so I can rule out issues with my vision or perceptions. Clearly if the problem is me, returning the phone won’t help anything.

Your are noticing colour shifts, can you live with this? Personally I couldn't, I don't want to see a rainbow when look at white websites for example. Only you can decide but why settle?

Apple f'd up with this OLED and price combination in my opinion. I've seen the reports on how this is the best screen apple have made or this is the best mobile phone display ever. I dont see it and I've seen at least 30 iphone X. Sure there will be millions sold and many happy users but I'm hugely dispointed and not making excuses for Apple anymore. No way I could recommend this device anymore.

Do you think apple will make marked improvements to the next phone w OLED?

Not just tweakingnand manufacturing, but touting brighter more vivid displays at the next announcement event next year?

Or you think they'll re use same displays in a faster phone and call it a day?

No doubt Apple will continue to tweak behind the scenes and maybe not disclose these changes like they have throughout the years. I don't think a few hundred complaints will turn their heads though so I'm pretty sure it will be the same display tech with a tweaked profile.

My screen is weird. It’s white straight on. But when barely tilting the phone, it turns to an incredibly blue white tint. Then looking at my screen straight on, it looks yellow even though it isn’t. It’s tricking my eyes.

Is that what people mean by extreme blue tint?
its the truetone thing.right now there are two kinds of X’s display either bluer or more white/pink display.the blue display tends to shift bluer when tilt and the white/pink display is nicer overall and thats what i have.i compare my my X at bestbuy and apple store

I think they'll update the display but only marginally. If rumors hold true and they release an LCD version with the new body style and face ID that might be the winner for me.

Long time lurker. Finally decided to login and share my story.

I went over 3 iPhone Xes before I gave up. I didn't want to get banned from the Apple store LOL. Manager got kind of annoyed. No biggie, I'm back to my 6s+. Money saved.

First phone: Crackling speakers, screen bottom half significantly brighter

Second phone: Less crackling speakers, freaking dust on the main lens, screen has the infamous pink->blue shift. Disgusting.

Third phone: Crackling speakers, smaller dust on the secondary lens, right side of the screen is pink and brighter and it also had a dead pixel.

All of the above had very poor dark gray uniformity at low brightnesses. But it's not as important. I think chances getting a perfect phone (of course your phone could be perfect for you, but according to my standards) is less than 10 percent.

Sorry to hear about your experience. It's a damn shame there is such a lottery on Apple products still. The prices their asking demand better quality control and they need to address this ASAP.

I noticed my friends X clicks if you squeeze the front and back but haven't told him as he's happy with his device. Ignorance is bliss!

My friend just received his iPhone X, and has a nice bright pink going down the right side of screen. His line is narrow where mine is thicker.

Such a weird display issue going on
