I had a unit that didn't have any color shift, I needed to replace it because my mute button got really loose. Like it would rattle every time I moved the phone slightly. I got an express replacement through AppleCare+ and that one has a really bad pink angle shift and there is also a pink glow on the whole right side edge. Guess I'm chatting in with them for another replacement. Has anyone done the AppleCare+ express replacement option more than once? I'm assuming I'll have to send them pictures of my screen?(they didn't ask for anything when I told them about my button being loose, just processed a replacement no other questions asked) I read a lot on white backgrounds and it's VERY distracting.

That sucks :( sorry to hear

I had a unit that’s exhibited that. It’s annoying

Now I have a replacement, and it looks better than my original screen. Its more whiter compare to my old one. It only has a pink tint abit at the top (My old one has at a top, left, and bottom). However, this one shift to red first then blue lol. My old one shift to blue only....Also this new one has a tiny spec of dust under the camera len, but it does not seem to show on camera though, so its not a big issue. I think I'm done with the lottery. Not the best screen, but at least better than my old one.

Yeah.. It does suck. As soon as the hold from the first replacement falls off I'm going to chat in and hope they give me another express replacement.

If it makes you feel any better lemme recall my flops

1st- good enough screen and otherwise but RF sucked in my apt. I chalk it up to being an early production unit (early October shipped with 10.0.1 too) rather than intel modem but thought that was the culprit But worse than my att 7+ which I couldn’t cope with. Dropped way too many calls even not moving the phone, placed next to the window.

A few Verizon’s - accidentally got instead of att models (only ones in stock) for resell or family. Didn’t want them so I opened them, all terrible screens with really sensitive tint shift from barely moving the phone off straight visibility

Got a sim free, RF was great but top third was pink. Hideous in landscape.

Replaced, pink bleed on right and top off axis — annoying when phone is on table not when being hypercritical in a dark room lol. Otherwise not bad.

Replaced — sim screen entirely pink cast and worst one of all off axis. Atrocious.

—-

Got an att intel contract X, and it’s a beaut. A keeper. I think best reception of all, I’ve seen three bars once or twice in my bedroom and never seen that with any others.

But it can keep up with the good Qualcomm’s reception wise

Finally happy
But holy hell is that too many swaps even for me.

Some other things I noticed were raggedy edges on the chrome edge on some
Units, and some earpiece speakers better than others, and some Face ID sensors way better than others.

Wow, looks like our luck is similar. Here is mine:

Got my device on launch day, noticed a scratch on the screen as soon as I removed the wrapper from the device after unboxing it. Sent that back and got one with a PERFECT screen, no blue tint shift, no pink what so ever anywhere on the display, not even a little. I was shocked at how perfect it was. Had it for 3 days and it just died, completely died with like 30% battery, wouldn't charge and wouldn't stay on without being plugged in, got that replaced and that one had a pink tint around the edge of the display on all sides, got that replaced and the replacement was perfect, after a few weeks my mute button became more and more loose, the funny thing was I only used the button twice a week, so I wasn't even flipping the button much. 4 times a week. lol on, off one day. on, off another. that's it. Now this one with pink. I think this one also has more battery drain than my last but I'm still in the process of testing that. For $1150, I'm going to keep replacing until I get one that I'm happy with. I have the AT&T model and I'm debating buying the sim free model for the Qualcomm model but I really don't want to spend another $1150.

Think we have a new problem to look out for. Minimum brightness lost of detail.

I have 4 iPhone Xs (2 mine, 2 someone else’s)

Went to the reddit thread where they complain about banding in low light conditions and there was this 1% grey slide. So not pitch darkness where the pixels are off but one where it’s on but still dark.

https://www.reddit.com/r/iphone/comments/7bfhzi/iphone_x_display_banding_at_low_brightness_in/

When looking at the thread 3/4 of the phones at minimum brightness the image of the display in the first post looks black.
Like you would have no idea what the guy is going on about. On one phone though at minimum brightness it’s day and night. You see straight away the issue.

So I adjusted the brightness on the 3 phones and then the first phones issues appear clearly.

What’s the bet if u watch lot of movies with black scenes on this one you will have a lot more detail visible...

I don’t get you. Are you saying the phones are good or bad?

And no, not a new problem at all.

Got my replacement retail box. replacement phone has the loud clicking when you press the screen, no pink edges. However the top portion of the screen has a pinkish tint and the bottom does not. Sending it back and im done with this.

Messed around with settings a lot more and made my pink tint good for now.

Got my replacement today. Top portion darker than bottom with naked eyes but not a huge issue.

Set it up and leave the house to return my first one. With my polarised sun glasses on 3/4 of the screen went black. Wtf!!? Bottom 1/4 was clear. Took off sunglasses and top portion was so un-readable under the sun couldn’t even see the time under the sun.

So I told myself maybe it’s the extreme sun today.

But I had my old phone with me so I took it out and no issues... put on my sunglasses and again could read everything clearly.

I don’t know how to explain it I went straight back home, wiped the damn device, put my sim into the old one. Spent 1hr setting it up again, made my way to the apple store and returned the new replacement.

So now I have an extremely balanced screen. No weird shifts up or down. No pink tints, no blue *****, the screen looks the same temperature from the side as it does front on. Only thing I have to ignore is that damn dust particle floating in the camera lense.

I’m over the iPhone 10. Seriously I’m going to trash this phone like it deserves. I baby all my other iphones but I’m not even going to bother screen protecting this one. It’s been a complete mess this iPhone

but if you got a good screen and no screen problems, and a spec of dust in the camera, wouldn't you wanna preserve it? still sounds pretty good overall for Foxconn million phones a day type volume,

You buy enough tickets you might win the lottery

If I can get over the dust particle I might. I asked about the belkin glass at the apple store and was told they have been recalled. Something about them blocking the light sensor?!? Again a mystery since the anti glare cut exactly the same size is still being sold...

Belkin glass protector being recalled? That's why I cannot find it on Apple store anymore.

ya so it wasn't the sensor as I was told. I called apple and they said people were returning it because it peeled really easily off the corners. My partner has had 1 from day 1 and no such issue.

In any case even belkin has pulled it off their own store

Hopefully the new one will be ready soon.

Their antiglare I wouldn't recommend.

Get a cheap tempered glass protector from somewhere until belkin releases the new one.

Is red shift consider a bad unit? Or it's normal? Mine does shift red -> blue. red start shift a little by little when tilt the phone.

No, it is normal. Totally up to you how much and what color shift you can tolerate. Most of the Xs I tried shifted pink then blue. Some shifted just to blue. My Samsung S8 shifts slightly pink and then blue. My Pixel 2 XL shifts to just blue. Personally I find blue shift to be far less offensive compared to pink shift (no shift is pleasing, but blue is least offensive). To each his / her own. Normal property of OLED phones.

I see. I do agree, blue is the least offensive. This is my 2nd one. My first one shift to blue first too, but the screen is yellow and pink around all the borders except the right side. This one only have a little pink at the top and the screen looks more cooler as well. I don't think its worth the lottery. But glad to know its normal.

Took the plunge and ordered X. For reference, I am still on my 6s because it has a nice white screen. Will probably go to apple store and ask for replacement screen if first one will be not good

If I was you, I would exchange, not replace or repair, otherwise you're stuck with doing so over and over until you get one you like. That may never happen.
