They processed a return so I could get a new retail phone. It's from the exact same batch and factory (F17) though. I did get Applecare+ with this replacement just in case. If it doesn't get better or I don't get used to it I'll just send it in for repairs through Applecare. Rest of the hardware is just fine so don't want to risk an exchange then.

Never understood the fuzz about refurbs, if a refurb performs better than a retail unit, then I'm more than happy with the refurb.

Sorry for your rough luck with screen lottery. Isn’t it possible to just get the screen replaced using AC+ now? It would count as one of your “incidents” but could be worth it if it ends up bothering you after awhile?

I want to buy Iphone X from BestBuy. Will Apple exchange it if screen has issues?
If you buy it from Best buy, you will not be able to exchange at the Apple store (meaning a return and exchange). If you have screen issue and take it to the Apple store, they will either replace your screen only, or give you a replacement unit.

Just wanted to chime in that my second replacement is finally free of pink edges. So if you also can’t stand them, replacing can give you a better unit. Just be prepared that it may take more than one attempt, lol.

This is true. But the two replacements I got had no pink edges but terrible uneven screen brightness. Bottom was dimmer than the top. The other had a horrific cracking in the speakers. My first one with a slight pink edge had none of that so I kept it.

Now I only notice the pink when I think about it or read this website.

I finally got a perfect iPhone X (the one on the right).

IMG_0022 (1).jpg

It is the eighth one...

I would have settled for number six (the one on the left) but it had serious overheating issues (always warm even when idle, all week long, no exceptions, and therefore quite poor battery life. it was the only iPhone X of all where I noticed this issue).

Number seven was dead on arrival : wifi was not functional so impossible to set up. I don't know how this one passed quality control. Also it had a strong pink shift noticeable from the welcome screen...

Number eight is a keeper, gorgeous screen, no shifting, no overheating, epic battery life...

What is the opinion of others who have cycled through several iPhones X because a strong pink or blue shift (or pink edges) ?

AppleCare+ or not ?

What about getting the risk of getting a replacement unit with a strong blue/pink shift again ?

Went through 4. All had pink to some degree. The one that didn’t have a half yellow half blue screen with no tilt. Returned them all kept the original. I can still see the pink but I’m over it. Idc as much. The newness finally wore off for me.

Unacceptable on a 1000$ device but what can you do. The Samsung has it too but they released a update where you could edit it.

Apple wouldn’t do that. We get stuff years later lol

P/s: sorry for the vertical video

That screen has better balance left and right than most iphones.

However it has that much brighter bottom than top as evident in the last pic.

Not so obvious at full brightness but at lower brightness it’ll become very obvious

I got a G6 a couple of weeks ago and returned it because of that.

Hey everyone.

Need some advice.

Made a bad choice and bought my phone at Best Buy. Went to Apple store twice.

1st visit they replace display give me the spheal on how it’s normal with OLED manager Won’t budge on new device.

2nd visit today - I told the same story whites shift hues even at constant angle and I’m not satisfied with the display. Manager says looks normal to him and that since they replaced the display that’s the only thing that could effect color output and I had the same issues with both displays. Is that true? I find it skeptical that there is not more to the story. I pushed on that but he was adamant that the display should be the only thing that determines appearance.

Also in general how have people approached this issue? I tried to be honest and straight forward that I knew about the OLED characteristics but was still unsatisfied and feel these OLED displays are more prone to variance so I’d like to try a different device. Manager almost caved but finally said no he wouldn’t do it so I walked away. I feel frustrated and let down for Apple to not be willing to swap the device on a new 1150 phone like even a refurb, what is their loss in this?

Never had this much of an issue before getting a device swapped, granted that was years/generations ago.

Does anyone have any emails for Apple corporate or support where I could explain my experience and disappointment? Am embarrassed to keep going back and have them see that I keep trying to get it replaced and told no.

Did you buy AppleCare?

I got my iphone x with pink edges on right hand side and 2 dust particle in the rear camera lens , visited service centre and told about my above issues. They sent the phone to repair centre, I was hoping for replacement, but instead they replaced the camera and the screen. Screen is better than before, little hint of pink shift and on the warmer side but definitely not piss yellow like the earlier screen.

One question I have, will the IP67 properties still be intact after performing the above task of replacing screen and all?, I mean is it still water resistant?

the water resistant is literally a little rubber band that wraps around the screen. As long as they put it back on (which is easy enough) your phone is def fine.

Probably not, but it all depends on the work done. If you have ever seen one of these things taken apart, once you remove the screen, it is never the same. The rubber sealant gets warped. Even if they replace it with a new one, you would have to completely strip the old adhesive remnants and apply glue with the same factory precision to get the original seal. And I just do not think they are doing that careful a job. From car headlights, to any consumer good that has sealing with adhesive, it is never the same again once you open it up.

If it does fail, they will likely throw the fact that you had the screen replaced in your face if there is a problem with water damage. Plus, I do not believe Apple officially covers water protection under warranty.

Somehow, through a friend I managed to speak to the guy, who works at repair centre and he assured me that all the jobs done here at the repair centre are more or less as per the OEM standards and after the job is completed on the phone, they apply the new glue then adhesive gasket and get it treated under some machine, which seals everything together same as it was done under the manufacturing assembly.

Of course they are going to say all of that. You think they are going to say otherwise? You ever deal with a car dealership? I get cars back with stripped threads, loose bolts, etc. All performed under OEM standards by a certified dealership.

Like I said, it depends on the work done. I am not saying it will necessarily be bad. But there is no guarantee of it being good.

Yeah, I get your point and second that. But as I have aforementioned, that this guy I found through a friend and their is no reason for him to lie about it, I mean he wasn't undertaking my job or anywhere related to the genius bar and as far as I know their is no way for the customers to get in touch with Repair centre, that can only be done by genius bar or apple support. So, I somewhat believe him about it.
Any which ways the water resistance is very much down the luck, sometimes even drops can cause the device to die and sometimes you get away with splash of water. No matter its a brand new or repaired one, we really have to be careful with our devices given no guarantees for water resistance(also water damage is not covered under warranty).

i am bother by this pink hue on the right side on mine aswell but the worst part are those smudges when viewing on not fully black backgrounds and i can see lines esp at night, not noticiable during the day though.driving me crazy

Until I buy my next phone / year or so. This one is the keeper (I’ve said that about earlier phones I tried but this one is truly the keeper, lol). You’ve prob tried a similar number of phones as me, you know a keeper when you see one. Slapped a screen protector on this in store right after removing the plastic wrapping. Amazing how easily the oleophobic coating scratches on this phone.

you found a perfect display then you slapped on a screen protector.

see the irony in that? we're all just caught in an OCD loop playing this game.

they were plenty of C39 and F1, as far as I can remember at my local Apple Store.
where are you finding these numbers?

Oh I know it is terrible, lol. The last iPhone X that I got prior to my current golden one developed 2 micro scratches on the screen simply by being placed in an empty jeans and / or suit pocket. I was so pissed, sold it on Swappa and bought another one. Luckily it happens to be the best screen I've come across. I'm so sick of this shatter-resistant soft glass BS. My Pixel 2 XL is similar in this regard. Give me scratch proof glass any day over shatter-resistance. Until then, I will keep using these POS screen protectors.

You can find your serial number just by going into settings and then "about phone." You'll see the serial number.

mine starts with DN and has a pink tint for 1cm along the right hand side, only visible when slightly tilted.
bothered me a bit but as i see it, there are no perfect screens, only close to perfect, and the marginal benefit of getting a close to perfect to this screen is not worth me going to the apple store and begging someone to give me a new phone. lol.

So I've had the iPhone X since launch and am trying to decide how bothered I should be by the hue shift. The problem for me is that screen shifts from white to red/pink to blue even at the slightest angles. If I'm looking at it dead on, the screen is pretty uniform, save for a little bit of pink near the notch. But if the phone is tilted at even the slightest angle, the top third or top half of the screen will shift to pink. This is obviously only really noticeable on white/light backgrounds, but it's distracting when reading articles and such.

The pink shift doesn't look as extreme as some of the examples I've seen on here, and it's actually difficult to photograph. But it's definitely there and noticeable by anyone I've shown it to.

The panel lottery seems annoying to me. Apple suggested I take it for a complete refund/exchange, but I don't know any stores that have the phone in stock. Are people who are getting replacements getting new retail units or just swapping for the replacement stock?

And more importantly, am I being too sensitive to this? Should I only really be judging the screen's uniformity based on straight-on angles? Or is it fair to expect it to look uniform when tilted a bit?

edit: I should also say I noticed the pink hue shift around the notch out of the box. Apple aren't doing themselves a lot of favors by making the phone setup screens a uniform white torture test for the screen ;)
I have the same issue except on the right hand side of the display.

To be honest I feel like I’m working myself up on this issue. I now notice it all the time!
This is my third iPhone. I feel there isn’t a perfect iPhone screen out there. Not really sure I want to spend another Saturday playing this game.

What did you do?

So I noticed that the yellow is only noticeable when viewed head-on, when you move the phone up and down the yellow moves with it.

Seems to have something to do with the high DPI. The pixels just look whiter at a slight angle. When putting the phone far away from my eyes the screen is uniform. When having just 10cm distance I can clearly see the shift (middle yellow, around it pinkish).

I am slowly getting used to it though and I don't see it when I don't move the phone. Whenever I shimmy it through my hand to reach buttons it's like disco though.

Won't be returning it though. Maybe will let a genius look at it when I am at an apple store for something else just to ask if it's "normal".

I'm using the phone without a case, so I'm getting a new screen anyway when it inevitably falls down someday.
