i agree with this top 10 chart :p
Z3 Compact is amazing
Best battery life i ever had
I have moderate use and battery life last up to 3/4 days, 2 days for heavy use, 1 week literally as light use
This is truly a beast.

Sure but that's yours not mine. People who have had a bad experience with a device or OS from 3 years ago might be not relevant today wouldn't you say?

That may depend if they are still in touch with an OS and know if the issues they had still exist of course. Then again you can't have a strict criteria for people to confirm to in order for them to qualify for discussion. This forum is about discussing and learning about different products and it welcomes people of all uses and backgrounds.

The conversation would be very boring if everybody had the exact same experiences.

But expecting experiences from the IP4 to be the same as the IP6 is not relevant. Same could be said for the Galaxy S3 to the Galaxy S5. If someone had a bad experience with a mobile OS/device from 3 years ago and comes to a forum and says the mobile OS/device "sucks" based on that experience....then they might want to atleast try the current version and update their opinion. Technology changes/updates very quickly.

If you owned a device with a fingerprint reader as good as the latest iOS devices, you never know you might realise it's a nice addition that speeds things up. I never rated it when I saw it on the 5S, but having used it for a couple of months now I have to say it's very useful. I tested the equivalent on an S5 and Apple seem to have got that technology nailed.

We own devices with touch ID. Not a big deal to me. Been there done that.

You advice on owning a device before criticising it's features would be put to great effect here. :)

See my sig

Great advice..... Add to that current version mobile OSes too!

Our iDevices are up to date as is my Note 3. Thanks.

Iphone's fingerprint scanner is great. The one on the note 4 works most of the time...just wish you didn't have to swipe down

I have to imagine it's hard to swipe down and hold onto the phone with one hand because of how wide the Note 4 is.

Yeah it's a two handjob but generally I use it two hands mostly. For example when I have it on a stand/dock type thing it can't be done.

Just a little bit off-topic.
We are talking about the top 10 mobile phones in 2014. I was just wondering while sitting on the terrace that acknowledging the huge advantages of a smartphone, still my favorite phone is:

My neighbor left his new Nexus 6 with me for half the day, so I could root and add specific tweaks for him.

Compared to how sexy it looks on photos and videos, I was disappointed when holding it.

The display is also not impressive compared to the latest devices. For a Quad HD with high ppi, I was expecting a nicer display. I won't say it looks washed out, cause the colors seem vibrant, but it has a dim look even at the highest brightness.

The front speakers were okay, but not as good as I heard from the HTC one.

I didn't see any issues software wise, but I only had it for about 7 hours.

I really surprised to find the Nexus 6 not as great as I though it was.

What rant? It's the truth. Use one. Ask costumers. Ask publications. Do your own unbiased tests.
I've done my own and a couple quick things that jumped out at me, that immediately caused it to fall short. For what I do for a living, I have to email various files from the field. With the iPhone, I couldn't even attach multiple attachments of different file types to one email. This meant I couldn't email the office the field pictures with the signed pdf document, and the completed doc file. That is a GLARING issue. Another is downloading files. Some vendors we do business with will send us live links to pull certain things down in the field, and expect us to upload the updated version back via the web form. I need a to be able to do this....I couldn't do it with the iPhone.

Simply put, it came up short...BIG TIME.

IPhone not in the top ten is lunacy. There I said it, even a 5th grader wouldn't go there.

No need to even read the post, have fun folks.
Well what phone would you remove in order to place it in the top 10?

I personally wouldn't go that far down the list but ALOT of those phones can make a case they are better than iPhone 6/6 Plus.
That's somewhat what my list demonstrates. For those 10, you can pretty much argue any of them are better (hence also why I didn't try to come up with an order for them).

Apple builds on its previous devices, it doesn't throw features unto a device any calls it a day by just increasing RAM. We know have far that gets folks with android smartphones. Why is it that they and Windows can get by with lower amounts of Ram? Geez, I wonder.
And THAT lack of ram is exactly why you see all those refreshes in the iPhone's Safari browser. Perhaps with more RAM it would be capable of better multitasking without losing the browser's state.

Is there a Windows smartphone on the list? Geez, how much more fuel do I need to discredit this thread given the topic title?
I don't feel that Windows Phone OS is quite ready yet. It's decent for what it is, but still has a ways to go before anything running Windows Phone is ready to be considered a top device, in my opinion.

Lol. I honestly cannot believe the iPhone 6/6+ wasn't in that list.
Well in particular, what phone would you remove to put it in that list?

The Galaxy Note Edge... Why would you even consider putting that at 2? I can respect your decision on every other phone in your list and can understand the Note 4 at #1 even though I wouldn't personally place it there. But the Edge? It offers almost nothing in functionality over the Note 4. It's basically a gimmick and I don't think it belongs in the top 10 at all.

As for why I would put the iPhone 6/6+ in the top 5, one of the best cameras, TouchID, iMessage (convenient if most of your contacts have iPhones and/or you have a Mac, Mac integration (again, not useful for all but extremely useful in my case), and 3rd party support i.e. accessories, cases, etc.

I'm assuming you overlooked the part that said "in no particular order".....but in case you did overlook it, that list is in no particular order. :D

I think this thread needs to be locked. It's becoming like all the other threads like this lately.

Makes me wonder what exactly the point of this sub-forum is. This thread is clearly flamebait. Hey I'll make a top 10 smartphone list and not include iPhone. That should get some people's knickers in a bunch and generate lots of clicks.

So let me get this straight. Because I don't think a person's favorite phone is in the top ten list of smartphones, that make the post "flame bait"? Last I checked, I'm not forcing anybody to come here and defend their favorite phone. When I see a post that doesn't interest me, I keep scrolling past. With that said, I enjoy discussing smartphones and hearing other people's points of view...hence why I've done just that, discuss smartphones and see other people's point of view.

Now that we have that out of the way, would you like to contribute to the thread? :)

I suppose the problem with threads like this is they are subjective, but the theme invites differing views that are notoriously passionate on here. You can construct a personal list of the top 10 smartphones on the market with features and bang for buck value, or whatever your personal criteria is etc. In reality though the top 10 smartphones as viewed by the market are those that are most commonly used. The most popular phones I see are the Samsung's, LG's, Sony's, HTC's and of course the iPhone. Therefore in my humble opinion, in no particular order as to what is best, they are indeed the top smartphones of the moment.

That goes for the entire forum including the iPhone section though. There are people in there that haven't owned an iPhone for years and claim it is boring, or some haven't owned one at all. Those types of people don't last long in discussions because they soon become out of their depth, much like in here. There is always the option not to respond to these people too if you so wish. I don't see any of it as a particularly bad problem and the discussion on the whole here is fun. :)

I don't equate sales or market share to being the best. For example, the One Plus One has virtually no market share at all, however it is easily one of the best smartphones out. The majority of the public has never even heard of it, but that doesn't make it any less of a device.
