Thanks for proving my point. Like 5 people noticed it on previous iPads, compared to the majority of people noticing it on the mini 6. Do you have the mini 6? Go take it to a store that caries older iPads and compare it side by side. It is 10x more noticeable than any other iPad ever made.

I think you're exaggerating "majority". Even if it's a problem for like 10,000 people, chances are it's a non-issue for the rest of the millions of customers who bought the mini. Certainly could be more affected with the mini 6 compared to previous models but not enough to constitute a majority.

Mind, I think there's like the same 20 or so posters complaining about jelly roll here on MR.

I personally have a problem with OLED iPhones (causes migraines) but I'm sure hundreds of millions other customers are perfectly happy with theirs. My solution? Use the iPhone SE2.

iPads have been displayed in the stores in portrait format since the first generation. I've owned iPads since gen2, every size from Mini (several generations) to the 12.9" Pro, and have probably used them in portrait mode half a dozen times in all those years. OK, so I didn't keep count - but if you asked me if I ever used an iPad in portrait mode, I'd say never, without trying to be scientifically accurate. There is essentially nothing I do on an iPad that isn't better done in landscape format.
Well your use case is different then. I read a lot of stuff for work, and for me that is better in portrait for obvious reasons.

Also there’s a lot of pilots who use Minis, and their main use case is portrait mode too (as shown in Apple’s very own promo video for the new Mini).

I think the wisest thing for everyone to do is give this some time and see how it plays out. A lot of people haven’t even gotten their Minis yet. We’ll see how much of a problem, or not, this is for the majority of users in the months to come. For me, its a huge issue, and completely unexpected as I’ve owned Airs, Minis, Pros, the lot.

Can we try and show a bit of empathy here. Just because its a non-issue for you doesn’t mean it’s a non-issue for others. People getting headaches and diziness from their sensitivity to this scrolling issue on the new Mini is not a non-issue in the slightest.

I too have noticed this on other iPads I’ve owned before, but never to this extent and never to the degree that I would have been motivated to post about it on a forum.
It’s a load of hysterical overblown crap. It’s existed on LCD for years but draw attention to it and everyone loses their tiny minds. Same with anything on the news these days. 😂

Go back and check them now, once you see you can’t unsee!!

i don’t think you’ve properly read my posts. Jelly scroll is a thing on all LCD panels, but as others have pointed out, it seems particularly prominent on the new iPad mini. It’s certainly never caused me dizziness or headaches before.

You do realise that because of the way Apple designed it this time around it is a lot more noticable than before? Which is exactly why it is a problem. I can see it on my 12.9” Pro as well but it is very slight and not bothersome.

Probably because you didn’t scroll it up and down and up and down and up and down and up and down over and over and over again to see the wobble. Pmsl
I think you’ve made your point.

no one is telling you that your experience of using the Mini is invlaid. If you have no issues with it then that’s genuinely a good thing. But some of us do, it’s not really that helpful to tell them they shouldn’t.

This. I mean, if anything, this just proved why the early adopters are who and what they are. If anything, they just proved to be our $500 - $650 guinea pigs. We can thank them for that; especially me, because I was waiting until early 2022 to get the mini 6 anyway. Now, I know what to look out for.

Yeah exactly, which is how you notice it on the Pros. While on the Mini 6 the entire screen warps while just scrolling through a webpage at reading speed.
You really have to go some to see it on the Pro because of the higher refresh rate. On the lesser displays its more obvious, has been for years. Also, the longer you use them your brain just cancels it out, the first iPad Air (non laminated one) and iPad mini 1,2,3 were all super noticeable. On newer iPhones you don’t see the wobble but you will see horizontal lines appear slightly at an angle making static pages of text an lines look ever so slightly squint, that one there will mess you up when you notice it.

Still not noticeable at all when I limit my Pro to 60hz. Not noticeable on my iPhone 13 mini in landscape either, or any other iPad I've ever used.

We all know it is normal behavior…

The problem is that Apple changed and oriented the screen in a way where it looks terrible in portrait now… whereas before it was largely hard to see this effect in landscape.

That’s the issue. How obvious the effect is now
The pro 11 refreshes in the same orientation as the mini.

I agree the issue seems to be more pronounced on the mini however. Likely due to the perspective and size difference. I don’t notice it much on my pro using the jello test, until I step back a bit.

Yeah -- that's not really showing empathy.
Would you be so kind as to try again please?

Size diff I think plays a big role for sure - great point

Erm, send it back.

and

Thats what she said. 😂

on the iPad Pro when you scroll a page down all the lines of text slant down (left to right), when you scroll up they slant up. Because of the higher refresh it doesn’t wobble but you can clearly see the slanted lines. Never noticed that on my 12.9 m1 pro until now. That’s it ruined now, 😭😭😭

It’s just a typical Apple product, cheap components in a flagship price. It’s not a defect, just probably a lower quality display.

The OP is advocating for an immediate recall of the mini 6.

Besides, what does waiting to see how things play out or empathy accomplish? Apple's already sunk millions in R&D that they need to recover. The next mini isn't ready yet. Apple never did anything with the Mini-LED blooming or edge shadows. Heck, 10.5" iPad owners with white spot issue have been left in the cold.

Apple offers a hassle-free return policy. If the jelly scrolling is bothersome to an individual, then best just return the mini 6. It's not like anyone's forcing you to keep using it.

Good question. Ask everyone that complained about Antennagate.

Exactly. But again, I do have to thank everyone who bought the mini 6 for being the guinea pigs who waited to see what impressions were from the early adopters.

BL.

Easy return policies make being an early adopter relatively risk-free. 🤷‍♀️

Yet so many people here complaining about this Jelly scrolling spend more time here complaining about this scrolling than exercising that return policy...? 🤦‍♂️

Mine is already returned. I’m not worried about money I’m disappointed I didn’t get a better mini. And I’m worried that people making excuses for Apple’s terrible screen is only going to encourage them to keep cutting corners.
