the last step I'm talking about was in the "Post Jailbreaking 1.1.3 guide"

it got my iPhone back on the AT&T connection.

ooh. i didnt realize you were all the way at the end. i thought you were still trying to upgrade to 1.1.2. holding down the home and sleep/wake buttons (puts it into recovery mode), probably wasnt a good idea at the end.

however, you said it still has the AT&T connection though so i would try opening iNdependence to see if that kicks it out of recovery mode. if it says Slide to Unlock then yeah restore your iphone in itunes, but only if its asking you restore a backup, if it says to restore back to factory settings dont do it.

if iNdependence knocks the phone out of recovery mode but back to the emergency call screen, youll have to start over from the beginning again....

Thanks

Thanks a lot! Everything worked and my iPhone is now unlocked on 1.1.3 and is synced! Now I just have one final question. Can I get back all of my texts, notes, and photos from the camera roll, and if so, how???

O.K. I really need the answer to this ONE question

My question is this:

Now that I have my iPhone jailbroken on 1.1.3, can I get my backup from iTunes with all of my texts, notes, and camera roll photos to go back onto my unlocked iPhone without relocking it or causing trouble???

To Justinthesaint

Can you please guide me thru step 23 for windows what did you type for the second bullet, cause I can't get past it.
(If u have windows) Thanks!

check the end of the guide, there's a section that says:

I have an iTunes backup that it won't let me restore now that I've completed your guide! How can I restore my backup?

i had a backup but im not sure what happened to it so i couldnt restore to that. i created a new a backup, but now my contacts dont sync, im not sure what the problem is with that. anyway, i think thats what youre looking for.

oh and you're welcome, haha

No Service

Thanks Anim8,

Once I get mine working, I will be supportive, but obiviously until it is, how can I advise others? clearly.

Anyway, thanks for your response. I have gone through the entire turtorial which has been fairly clear, although my phone says it has no service.

So if the jailbreak allows me to use my new 02 sim, would it right in saying that I have missed something in the tutorial?

Best Regards

To use an O2, AT&T, Orange or T-mobile sim (in the correct countries) you do not need to unlock your iphone only jailbreak it!!

Please try to be a little more supportive to those who seek help in future!

Well apologies if I'm wrong, but at the moment I stand by what I said, the 1.1.3 jailbreak doesn't bypass activation.

Having been through the process myself it worked perfectly with my iPhone SIM (apps & phone service). When I put my other O2 SIM in I had no service, when I connected to iTunes it tried to activate and told me I didn't have a valid iPhone SIM (the same SIM worked happily after jailbreaking in 1.1.2).

Problem Solved

After a suscessful 1.1.3 jailbreak Installer crashes after download before install of the app. I tried the section on this fix:
Whenever I try to install something in Installer.app, it gets to "Installing package" and then crashes back to the Home screen! What am I doing wrong?
After completeing this section the phone crashes completely. When I reboot I can not see any of the apps, even "Phone", "Mail", "Safari" and "iPod" are missing.

Here is what i get when I follow the instructions:
:apple:
Using username "root".
root@192.168.1.3's password:
Last login: Fri Feb 8 11:46:27 2008 from 192.168.1.100
# cd /
#cp -rf Applications /private/var/root/
#mv Applications Applications.old
#ln -s /private/var/root/Applications /Applications
ln: /Applications: No space left on device
#ls -la / | grep Applications
drwxrwxr-x 25 root admin 850 Feb 8 13:30 Applications.old
:apple:

I have nothing on the phone after the jailbreak.

Any help?

Thanks!

Problem solved, I found and used BossTool to free up space. Now installing application does not crash. If anyone know why the above procedure did not work, I would still like to know.

I need Help Backing up my iPhone that I got the day after it came out

I was going to follow the instructions that were given in the Questions section of this guide to get my backup of my iPhone installed back onto my iPhone, but I didn't find the folder "MobileSync" in the "Application Support" folder. I have the Application Support folder, but I don't even have the MobileSync. So, I don't have the backup in the folders that the guide tells me they'd be, but (this is very important to anyone that is willing to help me) I GOT MY IPHONE THE DAY AFTER IT CAME OUT. So, I used my apple search to look for backup, and found a folder named Backup. This is why I think that this is my iPhone's backup: when I tried to open some of the many files in the folder, my computer said that it didn't have an application to open the files in. That makes me think that the files are made to run on iPhone applications. SO, IF THERE IS ANYONE THAT KNOWS ANYTHING ABOUT HOW I CAN GET THIS FOLDER ONTO MY IPHONE FROM MY DESKTOP (where it is currently located) PLEASE TELL ME HOW!!! I'm think it involves using Terminal.

i cant seem to find this .ipsw file for step 5. i did download the file in the previous step but it did not give me any .ispw file. heres whit i downloaded, wheres the file i need?

I think that this happened to me, too. I think the first thing you should do is check your trashcan. A lot of the things I downloaded went straight to the trash. If you still can't find it, just download it again.

Stuck Here

I was trying the guide last night and evrything was going well until i came to the part with "-ssh install.sh". for some reason it was giving me errors like "file not found" or something to that effect! Can anyone tell me what went wrong? I'm using pscp and putty on windows.

(I have a Mac) All I can tell you is that you need to make sure that you downloaded "BSD Subsystem" and "OpenSSH"

i cant seem to find the "OpenSSH" package??? why? i found the BSD subsystem package fine. wheres OpenSSH?

That Exact same thing happened to me. Go to the home screen and press the sleep/wake button. After a few minutes, wake your iPhone and go back into Installer. Now you should probably see that you have an update for Installer. Install the update, then install "Community Resourses" and this will finally let you install OpenSSH.

thanks. that worked. now its time to find out what this phone can really do!:)

iNdependance not working

I have a otb 1.1.3 8 gb and have run the update to 1.1.1 from step 5 three times but iNdependence is still not working. Is it because I have itunes 7.6? I get an error from the mob dev tool that says

"Please choose the location of the version of MobileDevice framework which was installed with itunes 7.4.2 to copy into iNdependence."

I don't have itunes 7.4.2. What do do? I'd appreciate any help!

Thanks

if that is the correct firmware you downloaded, you have to rename the folder (that you have named iPhone 1,1_1) to "iPhone1,1_1.1.1_3A109a_Restore.ipsw". a pop-up will ask if you want to change to .ipsw, say yes. the file should have that exact name, when it does it should look like a Lego block. use this to restore from.

its "sh install.sh" not "-ssh install.sh"

hey i think youre looking in your Mac's HD library as opposed to your account library. open finder and click on your account name (Justin) or whatever it is, and go in through that library. MobileSync should be there (in the Application Support folder).

yeah you have to have itunes 7.4.2. heres a link to download...http://filehippo.com/download_itunes/3201/

That's odd, but easily fixed. (Unless you've got a PowerPC mac, that is, in which case this jailbreak isn't for you.)

Open up a Terminal window and drag the "Run_This" file into it.
sbrocket i am having trouble with step # 23 on the windows side, when i get to the part that says....
"cd /"
"sh install.sh"
putty spits out some commands but its like a "file not found" error or something like that!!! Do you know what i'm doing wrong? When i type in "cd /" and press enter nothing happens the cursor just goes down to the next command line, then when i type in "sh install.sh" thats when the process stops for me. i know you say to wait for a long time but nothing seemed to be happening after 30 minutes. Am i supposed to get those error messages? Any help please...( of course i'm typing them w/o the quotation marks)..

jailbreaking an ootb 1.1.3

hello first off i am new to this site and want to say hello to all,and now i can get down to business, so to speak. I was reading the thread about jailbreaking an ootb 1.1.3, and it seems very useful and detailed, the only question I have is will the jailbreak work on a phone if it is already activated?
I was trying aimlessly to unlock it as soon as I got it, (wish I had seen this thread first) and when all had failed that i tried, I caved and activated it with at&t, now I'm wondering as I said if I can still jailbreak it even though I already activated it,as the only thing I could find in the thread was using a non activated I phone. If someone could help me with this I would greatly appreciate it. thank you very much.
