I'm having trouble with just one of my monitors.

My old 2016 Mac mini works fine with both my old Samsung SyncMaster 214T (1600x1200 @ 60Hz) and my newer NEC MultiSync EA244WMi (1920 x 1200 @ 60Hz), using the Apple HDMI-to-DVI adaptor that came with it and a DVI cable.

My new M1 Mac mini works fine with the newer NEC monitor, using the same Apple HDMI-to-DVI adaptor and DVI cable, but when I connect it to the older Samsung the result is this:

Has anyone else seen anything like that ???

To re-iterate, the monitor (with same cable etc.) works fine with the older Mac.

Hi guys, interesting conversation. I use a 1m 8K HDMI cable on my Mini M1, have none of above issues...but others : My Dell 4K Monitor shows in sys report as 5K UHD and if I scale it to WQHD or 4k and also under standard resolution for this display, it's not really smooth in scrolling pages and has issues (flickering) in HD/4K videos from dark to light.

Anybody have an idea what to do? I tried Apple support, but the lady was clueless

With Macs either it works or its a replacement. almost 5 days runtime and no issues on my 27inch 4k Dell P2715Q (Which looks great, solid monitor for Mini's)

If you have a good monitor and cable and you get issues then the Mini is defective.
Hi, can you please report your resolution off of sys report? And do you scale it to a lower resolution or left it a 3840x2160?

Okay so I’m getting this exact same issue. Oddly only seems to be the monitor connected with HDMI. I’ve tried a different cable and a different monitor and the issue is still present. Monitors are old, no 4K or anything running at 60hz. Managed to get a picture.
I'm sorry you have to deal with this issue as well. Thank you for capturing an image of it!

Totally understandable. I've enrolled this one in the BETA program and we're running 11.1 at the moment which has the same issue. Understandable I guess if it's not been widely reported as yet.

Related / Unrelated issue, anyone having problems with any lag / juddering / stuttering after waking from sleep? I'm watching Activity Monitor and the memory or CPU isn't under any pressure but windows (mainly Finder) sometimes lag for a few seconds then react to what I'm asking it to do. Restart fixed it but I'm thinking it's all graphical.
Yes actually! I started realizing that the other day. Even browsing on safari seem to be stuttering after a while.

Starting to put some of my issues down to the Elgato HD60S.

NOT the pink squares but some of the lagging and stuttering has been solved since removing that.
I'm glad. I personally returned my mac mini yesterday. I'll just wait a little while longer until some of the issues have been fixed. I'll stick around to see how it turns out. Good luck to everyone!

My M1 Mini is hooked up via HDMI to a Samsung SyncMaster XL2370HD monitor with a generic Amazon HDMI cable....No issues to date.

Considering the issue with crisp text (hiDPI display), which would be better:

HP Omen 27" 2560 x 1440 @ 165Hz (or 144Hz) OR something like the 27" Samsung - UR55 Series 28" IPS 4K UHD Monitor @ 60hz?

Having used a 144hz laptop, I love the buttery smooth scrolling. Would the M1 Mini work on either of these?
I bought an electriQ 165Hz 32” 1440p monitor and I’ve just ordered my M1 Mac Mini.

I’m gonna be running it at 1440p (2560 x 1440) @ 120Hz, which I’ve been told the Mac Mini can do nicely over HDMI.

Yes. It reports it as a 5K if you scale. Check the refresh rate, it might be at 30Hz. It happened to me. Change resolution by holding down the "option" key and click on scale.

As an update on this: the monitor works fine when I use a USB-C-to-HDMI active adaptor.
So the issue is only with the Mac's HDMI output.

My mini won’t connect via USB-C to the monitor on startup. The monitor says it isn’t receiving a signal. Unplugging then replugging fixes it. Wake from sleep is fine.

It’s only USB-C. HDMI works fine, and if I hook up the monitor to a CalDigit thunderbolt dock via DisplayPort, that’s ok too.

Any news on the replacement? Still having issues?
Oops my bad, I forgot to update. I ended up sending my replacement Mini back, factory sealed. I'm pretty sure my original wasn't defective as a decent number of others have reported the same issue. I'm going to monitor the situation and consider ordering a new one at a later date.

Carlisle, Up Norf!
Small update from myself.

I recieved and email from Apple on Saturday saying they had tried to contact me regarding this issue. I posted the issue over on their support forums.

I called support back and was told the issue has been escalated above the normal support channels, they (Apple Support) have been told not to troubleshoot this issue and I've been passed up the chain to a more senior team looking into problems with new hardware. The person I spoke to on the phone was surprised the issue had already been ecsalated to this team (it was the "higher up" hardware team who had initally tried to contact me, not just the usual support team).

Anyway I'm expecting a call back this afternoon and it's being described as information collecting for the moment.

I'm updated onto the latest BETA of Big Sur 11.1 and the issue is still present.

Machine has also now developed another weird problem when waking from sleep in that both of my displays are totally black. The mouse pointer is visable and I can move it but there is nothing else on the displays, just total black. Putting it back to sleep then waking doesn't solve it, nor does unplugging monitor cables. Only a full reboot with the power button does.

I'm worried.
