Meantime I have found an excuse to buy a latest gen pro at some point in the future, as my sister would like to buy my 9.7 pro (she had an old 2013 samsung tablet which is ready for the garbage bin and I have convinced her not to go with android again for tablets). I think I'll wait till the 4th gen, hopefully for an entry level one with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage at $800, possibly at a discount, with it's 200$ keyboard, to use mainly as a home device, mainly for youtube, social media and web browsing (for on the go it's not an option for me since it's not lappable, contrary to the 1st and 2nd gen and I don't expect the 4th gen to be any more lappable than the 3rd gen). I may wait a year (maybe Black Friday 2020...) if necessary to get a good deal. The 10.5, 12.9 1st gen and mini 5 should be enough until then.

If Kuo is saying 2020, it means no October event for sure. Considering the fact that the only upgrade is the rear camera I have no interest in I guess time to buy the 2018 model

And we’re so close to anything that could be (could have been?) announced in October, haha.
I think it's unlikely they'd announce an iPad Pro in October for release in say January.

Nonetheless I think I'm just going to wait. I was considering just getting an iPad 10.2" for the wife and keeping the 10.5" Pro for myself for the time being, but I think it's better to wait for the 11" and then give her the 10.5" Pro.

If necessary, I could even give her the 10.5" Pro first, and then just wait it out with my 12" MacBook and no iPad at all for myself for a couple of months.

---

In any case, I'm curious to see what Bloomberg will report in the coming weeks if no October invites come out next week.

It's a rumor. Maybe there will be a press release?

Press release? Perhaps! But I highly doubt it.

Especially with this 3 camera system (although it's similar to the latest iPhones)... yet I gotta feeling as Dave2D mention that there is something else. However, I don't think it will be an OLED display... because it's going to be crazy expensive.. But I do think there will be some updated display.

And if Apple plans to update the display... I don't think a press release would do it justice.

Do you guys feel there is a chance of the event happening in Nov or Dec if there is no event in October? I plan on getting the 2018 iPad Pro 12.9 at the end of October if there is no event. Is this advisable?

If you do not have a device to do this job - by all means buy now. For me, my ipad pro (10.5" from 2017) was a game changer (i use it for sketches, note-taking, diagrams, email on the go, remote desktop sessions, etc.). That said, i've been very impressed by the 6th gen ipad (with pencil and keyboard case) i got for the GF.

If you DO have something that is doing the job... i'd wait.

edit:
IMHO the pro is "due" for an update with the new processor. Whether it is in October, November, or December, i do think we will see something before the end of the year.

11" iPad Pro 64 GB is US$675 right now at Amazon.com USA. That's $125 off.

We will find out this week if there is an October event or not. If no invitations go out by Friday, then there will likely be no October event.

That doesn’t say anything about November though. ;)

It would be weird if there is no iPad Pro/Macbook updates before 2019 or even so the event itself.

Everyone wants to release something new before the holiday season kicks in. iPhone SE 2020 is believable because Apple's flagship is the 11/11 Pro. But releasing iPad Pro Q1 2020, from the sales perspective i don't buy it.

There might be some other revision of the iPad Pro in Q1/2020 but i believe they release SOMETHING before the holiday season.

If you look at the history of ipad releases:

iPad Pro 1st 12,9 (November 2015) 9,7 (March 2016)
iPad Pro 2nd (June 2017)
iPad Pro 3rd (October 2018)

If you look here https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IPad in the history section. Every flagship iPad has been released before holiday season.

Minor revisions of this has been released in march. (Example the 1st ipad Pro, 12,9 before holiday-season and 9,7 after)

Alltrough they released iPad 7th. month ago in september, there was only Air and Mini updates this year. It would fit perfectly to release some revision of Pro in 2019 before the holiday season. "The shiny new max iPad Pro"

It might be possible that we don't see and iPad Pro update this year, but it would be pretty dump to release it in Q1 2020. It doesn't matter if it truly is the "PRO" product for professionals (And price to match it, Mac Pro for example), but you know.... it's more like an "pRo"- product just like the iphone 11 pro.

E: Plus Apple tags and Mac Pro and recently leaked AirPods.... It's free publicity for them to make an event out of these. Every news article and youtuber will also boost the "Marketing" when Apple makes an event, imo it's a nobrainer.

Seems very unlikely that Apple would update its flagship tablet through a simple press release. Tomorrow is the last day. If nothing comes out then the event is in March no doubt about it.

If it’s not in October it doesn’t have to be in March. My guess would actually be Feb.

Why would Apple deviate from established history with the new iPad Pro? From the sounds of it, there isn’t much new apart from the triple lens camera to warrant holding it earlier.

Established history? You have a good imagination. There has only ever been one iPad Pro released in March, and that was the 9.7”, months after its big brother the 12.9” gen 1 was released.

All other iPad Pros were released in November (3 models) or June (2 models).

I’m considering getting an 11” iPad Pro but I am aware that the latest model came out a year ago. Was holding off for an October event. I won’t buy a year old device at last years prices though

Black Friday will present large discounts for iPad Pro models, probably around $100-200
