Issues with phones after updates are quite normal now on any platform..only issue I have is the battery life

My battery life went downhill on both my 7 Plus and my company issued 7. Also both get hot during normal use and that's not something I noticed before iOS 11.

It really is pretty interesting that this is happening to Apple. I was told this doesn't happen to Apple:
https://www.macrumors.com/2017/09/25/ios-11-app-slowdowns-performance-issues/

iPhone Users Complain of App Slowdowns and Performance Drops After Installing iOS 11

... numerous users who have installed iOS 11 claim to be experiencing much slower app performance, app crashes, and other similar issues. The initial reddit post calls launching apps "an absolute chore," a sentiment echoed by dozens of additional comments.

Users are complaining that their phones "just get stuck on apps" and that a hard reset is the only way to fix the problem.

Multiple iPhone models appear to be affected, with redditors reporting issues on the iPhone 6s, iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, and other earlier models. The iPhone 8 and 8 Plus do not appear to be affected, and there are few complaints about iPad Pro models.

I mean, we all know first round updates can have bugs, but usually with Apple, this is so uncommon and minimal that it doesn't really make news.

Hard to disagree with the bolded given the past couple of years. Not only is Apple late to the party, they're joining it via a new and even more expensive tier that is going to be extremely difficult to fulfill demand for. Like I said, it's going to be a very frustrating launch for their customers. This is the price (literally!) of Apple lagging behind the competition and playing catch up this way. And from early reports of OLED production, it looks like it will be this way at least until the first half of 2018.

Regarding Samsung and value, I forget which thread I said this in, but I think the S8 is still pound-for-pound the best value at this point in time. They're offering leading class hardware, extra added value software features on top of a mature and stable Android OS, and doing so without screwing the customers (no compromise smaller model, for example, and lots of promotions and discounts).

I haven't handled the 8's myself, but am super happy that Apple is going back to glass-back designs. Not only has it helped refine and fix the iPhone 6-7 look, but yes, glass feels and looks more premium, and offers better features (better radio signals, wireless charging...).

In fact, I hope Samsung copies Apple's Silver white glass-back color. I love that look.

Even the home button lag made news.

Probably the richest, most computer technically connected being in the universe uses a 18 month old smartphone.

Tell me again why do we need to upgrade our smartphones every 12 months?

Oh god, we do not. NOT NOT NOT at all. There isn't a single smartphone purchased within the last 12 months that requires someone to purchase this year's iteration. We're all nuts.

Why do we need to upgrade our phone sooner than every 3 years really? Something like a Note 5 is still a fire breathing dragon even in today's market. I think Gates is just smarter than most of us.

Poor 3D sensor yields mean Apple may not fulfill all iPhone X preorders until early 2018 – report

A supply chain report out of Taiwan claims that Apple is facing significant yield problems with the 3D sensors used in the TrueDepth camera module of the iPhone X. One source says that production volumes for the flagship phone are so low that they are being measured in tens of thousands of units per day …

If the report is accurate, this suggests that Apple may not even be able to fulfil preorders by the end of the year.

The Nikkei Asian Review reports that the yield rates – the percentage of components that meet quality requirements – is lower than expected.

Two executives working for iPhone suppliers told Nikkei Asian Review that 3-D sensor part makers are still struggling to reach a satisfactory level of output, and to boost their yield rate […]

Both sources were unable to offer clarity on whether Apple could meet large orders after iPhone X’s launch. One of the sources said that iPhone X was being churned out in small quantities, around some tens of thousands daily.

An earlier KGI report was even more pessimistic, suggesting that production earlier in the month was even less than 10,000 units per day.

A Taipei-based analyst said that this was, however, the only major component still limiting production volumes. It had earlier been reported that Samsung was struggling to produce the OLED displays – more complex than used in the company’s own phones – with a yield rate of just 60%.

Jeff Pu, an analyst at Taipei-based Yuanta Investment Consulting, said that he expected mass production of iPhone X in the second week of October and that handsets would begin to leave China for global distribution a week later.

This supports an earlier claim that although the iPhone X is well into the planned manufacturing period, it has not yet reached what Apple would consider mass production.

Pu estimated that Foxconn has made only 2 million iPhone X units to date, but is expecting the number to hit 10M in October, and 40M by the end of the year. With KGI predicting that preorders could top 50M units, that would mean that Apple couldn’t even fulfil those orders before early 2018.

While I previously said I had no plans to pick up an iPhone X, i’ve had a change of heart....kind of. ;)

I still don’t plan to get one to use myself but I’m going to get as many as my multiple devices/accounts let me preorder since they’ll probably fetch a mint on the open market. Wife needed a new phone (she wanted an iPhone 8) and now just had to replace my daughter’s dying 6 Plus (red iPhone 7 Plus for her at a nice discount). In addition to the new desktop I had to get to replace my aging/dying Mac Mini, I need to subsidize all of these tech purchases somehow. :p:D

Fire away at me as the guy ‘ruining it for all the other people hoping to secure one at launch.’ Then turn around and blame Apple for creating this environment in the first place with their restricted supply.

Don’t hate me for being the guy who ruins your Christmas when I get my order in ahead of you and take at least one of your phones. ;)

Damn scalper... Lol, I mean to do the same thing. I don't care about making money, but I always love a "free" phone and if I sell one it will be my own little personal BOGO sale. I'm predicting these will fetch at least 2k. What are they predicting, 12 million units for the first weekend of preorders and then they won't fulfill the first 50 million orders until after the new year, and even then constraints until spring 2018!! This is pretty much the biggest update the iPhone has ever received.

Yeah, I’m not actually looking to make an enterprise out of this, hoping I can get one, maybe longshot at two. I’m fortunate as well in that I don’t need to sell them for income but at the same time, I’m not opposed to subsidizing my other tech daliances. ;) Makes it a far easier discussion with the wife as well the next time I pick up a new toy. :D (<cough>Pixel 2 XL<cough>).

Which version are you getting? The Verizon one? I've read that's an unlocked version?
