Which version are you getting? The Verizon one? I've read that's an unlocked version?

If you buy outright, the TMobile, AT&T or Verizon are all unlocked. The benefit of getting Verizon though is it’s compatible with all networks—or at least that’s how Apple’s skus have worked until now. If you buy a ‘sim free unlocked’ model from Apple directly as you can right now for the 8/8 Plus, it’s the same model as the Verizon version. Unfortunately, doesn’t look like we’ll be able to preorder sim free models of the X.

I’ll be buying outright, no upgrade plans. I’m aiming for the Verizon version but if the website requires carrier account info to apply to the phone, I’ll be getting TMobile versions as that’s my carrier.

Same here. I'll go for Verizon, but I'm with Tmo. Thanks.

I'm aiming to fund phone upgrades for my parents, partner, and if there's anything left over, a future S9 for myself maybe. ;)

There's going to be serious supply constraints. WSJ backs up the production issues they're having with Face ID:

WSJ backs up the story that Apple will offer an "advanced LCD" iPhone in 2018 until they can convert to full OLED flagships in 2019.

I'm convinced now more than ever that this model will serve as a back up to the OLED flagships, which will continue to be in limited supply due to supply constraints.

Apple said the OLED iPhone X was the future. Getting there is going to be a struggle for the giant, and a frustrating experience for its customers.

Apple needs to get Sharp and LG involved next year in OLED panels or Samsung will just hold Apple hostage with prices.

iOS 11 is so weird. I do not understand Apple's thinking on some of the decisions at all. The wifi and bluetooth toggles in Control Center DO NOT ACTUALLY TURN OFF WIFI OR BLUETOOTH. They simply disconnect you from whatever current network you're connected to, continuing to run in the background. To completely turn them off, you need to go into the device's actual settings. WHO IS THIS MEANT FOR??? What is the purpose of a quick toggle that doesn't do what it's there to do?

So dumb.

That would drive me pretty nuts. Does 3D Touch do anything? Is there a way to get into Settings directly from Control Center?

On Android, long pressing the WiFi toggle takes you directly to that setting. Same with the other toggles, so long pressing the Data toggle, for example, takes you to your data usage page.

I got confused when my Apple Watch didn't disconnect when I turned Bluetooth off otherwise I would likely have never noticed it. the Bluetooth icon disappears from the status bar which implies Bluetooth is off when it isn't.

Nope, or at least I ain't seeing it.

Another example: I really like the new notification shade for aesthetics. You pull down, it looks like your clean lockscreen. HOWEVER...why do I need to also SWIPE UP to get "older" messages? Older defined as...what? A few minutes ago? Hours? Why would I want to take two separate action to QUICKLY see my messages?

No idea who this is meant for and why the designers would think this is a good idea. iOS is about fluidity of movement throughout the OS. They're making using their own OS some kind of Rube Goldbergian nightmare.

Yep, meanwhile Samsung is chugging along producing quality panels for their own flagships without any shortages, etc.

I understand Apple has to fulfill more orders, obviously, but if every shift like this is going to literally take years to implement, we have to wonder if Apple is just getting too big for its own good.

Like I said, it's going to be a frustrating experience for the customers.

It is so obnoxious. Granted, maybe it's just an OCD thing but again - if I turn it off, it should be OFF. This is what a switch is supposed to represent. Imagine turning a light switch off in your house, but the light stays on unless you go into the main circuit breaker. Just nuts.

I have bluetooth and wifi always on for my Phone but on iPad i was confused when Bluetooth didnt turn off.
LG's oleds are not as good as Samsung though. The quality control will be difficult.
What makes them not as good? Currently the LCDs are sourced from LG, Sharp and one more OEM I dont remember.
There bears to me some difference anyway. How noticeable it will be is the main issue.

This was the final straw for me. Apple is constantly babying their consumers. I understand some consumers may need it. But not all of us are tech illiterate.

Yesterday I became the proud owner of a galaxy s8.

I'm done with iPhones.

I've used android in the past so I'm pretty familiar with my way around it. Everything has been going smoothly so far. I've been enjoying the freedom of customizing my phone the way I want and no sandboxing.

The only issue I'm having is trying to find a decent looking smart watch for galaxy s8. Most android wear is fugly.

Some of their recent OLEDs have had problems.

Samsung are just the better manufacturer. They have the best panels as well.

The update to iOS 11.01 must’ve fixed something causing the battery woes on my 7+ because I’m getting significantly better performance now.

How would you expect to see older notifications, especially if they’re off the screen? Isn’t it this way on Android too? I recall if I had too many notifications to be viewed the initial screen, I have to scroll up.

I think the iOS notification layout is too large and wastes some space and their implementation needs some serious work (no sorting by type?!) but I guess I’m misunderstanding what the alternative would be.

Actually, it doesn’t. Turn off WiFi in CC then go look at WiFi toggle in Settings. It’ll still be on. If you turn off WiFi in CC, the WiFi button turns gray but it just disconnects and doesn’t turn off. Go turn off WiFi in Settings and then look at the WiFi button in CC—it’ll be greyed out with a line through it, representing it now being fully off.

And this behavior is exactly how Apple explained it should work. Their logic is they still want it on for AirPlay and AirDrop functionality, I think.

Then you appear to be running a unique version of iOS 11, my friend. Here’s how my CC toggle looks at each state.
