It's terrible design. You can couple this with the crappy settings app that you have to go through to change settings. What is worse is that Apple now does not allow devs to make apps which have shortcuts to settings. I used to have launcher pro as a widget with shortcuts to things like wifi, mobile hotspot, etc. But now I have to slog through the settings app to get anything done. Yes some of us want to turn off wifi, Bluetooth, etc with a SINGLE convenient button.

I've always complained Apple's settings menu was a pain. It's oddly hard to find stuff. And worse, depending on the app, sometimes the settings can be in the app itself or in the main iOS Settings menu. I never understood that.

In fact, that's the whole idea of a toggle!

Good lord IOS 11 is still buggy..

The amount of times i’ve Clicked the home button to activate Touch ID and it still does nothing for at least 4-5 secs.

Never has this ever been an issue for me on IOS but it’s annoying.

I've had a ton of annoying bugs pop up that I never saw previously in iOS 9 or 10. Never have I had an issue with Touch ID. Now, frequently, it just flat out fails and I have to put in my passcode. This has happened pretty much once a day since I've updated. Also, when I quick reply to an SMS message from the lock screen, on numerous occasions it just glitches and closes out my text. I have to unlock the phone and go to my messages and start over. I've not been impressed at all with iOS 11 - it's more of the same, and nothing really worthwhile to me. I'm now waiting on the Pixel 2 to see where I'm headed with my next device.

I did not get this either, makes no sense. I reported this on the feedback app. There is no reason Auto brightness should be buried under accessibility.
I bet that gets moved back to display in some future update. It really doesn't make sense moving it to accessibility.

How would you expect to see older notifications, especially if they’re off the screen? Isn’t it this way on Android too? I recall if I had too many notifications to be viewed the initial screen, I have to scroll up.

I think the iOS notification layout is too large and wastes some space and their implementation needs some serious work (no sorting by type?!) but I guess I’m misunderstanding what the alternative would be.

You are correct that you have to scroll down to continue seeing older messages no matter what but there is a visual indication that they’re there - the messages themselves. Whereas say you have 4 “older” messages and one new one. The screen will only display the new one with no indication that swiping up brings back older notifications.

Again, much like the toggles, the reasoning behind this isn’t terrible. The implementation is. It’s not intuitive, and seems to both fix something that isn’t a problem and create an extra step to perform the same action.

It seems like they are trying to hide it, that's just the impression I get. Like they are saying turning off auto brightness should only be done if you have a handicap that warrants it, otherwise trust us to manage your brightness.

Maybe it's so people use True Tone?

Placing it under control center would be fine. 3D Touching brightness makes sense, it currently has night shift and true tone.

I hate that they moved auto brightness and it makes no sense that it gets turned back on when iOS 11 was installed.

It's between iPhone X, LG V30 and Pixel XL 2

I am veering more towards Pixel XL 2 at moment but it will be entirely dependent on pricing and availability.

If Pixel XL 2 pricing is approaching the €1k mark, I would rather get the iPhone X and keep my current Pixel XL as I think despite its horrendous price, it will hold its resale value far longer.
Why aren't you considering Note 8 or S8 Plus?

S8 plus, simply not a chance with the terrible ram management I had on my Exynos S8. It would drive me nuts.

Note 8 rectifies that, but feels too tall for me and as I found the edge screen a hindrance when using sketchbook Pro. I would lose 5% screen either side and have to constantly move my canvas away from the edges or reduce its scale to make sure the pen doesn't miss strike when illustrating. Essentially I lose real estate on a big screened device. As much as the Notch on the X would irk some users.

Had the Note 8 had a flat screen I would def overlook the tallness, but the two combined make it unsuitable or at least compromised for what I would want to utilise it for (Digital Sketchbook) and I feel I would be battling rather than enjoying the device.

A shame as Note 3, 4 & 5 I had no issues with screen or size.

Wouldn't the Note with its s-pen make it the only choice if you are using sketchbook pro? Im not sure how the pixel would be any better even if it has the traditional aspect ratio and a flat screen since it has no stylus.

Note is the only choice, but a compromised one in its current form, and one that I don't feel I could fully enjoy.

If I am paying near €1000, for a Note 8, If I can't have that specific feature fully un-compromised, which would justify to me the compromise of using an OEM software skin (I prefer stock Android generally) and to make up for some of the gluck that Samsung has (Bixby, duplicate apps & services, general bloat), and then the tallness of the device, and ergonomic struggles (tall device, horrid finger print scanner placement), then rather than drive myself mad and battling my phone and spending more time trying making it the way I want it to run, rather than enjoying it, I'd rather just get something else.

Essentially, The Note is mainly attractive to me because of the S-Pen

Whereas, other devices like Pixel XL2, iPhone X are both more appealing to me on a software level and practical ergonomic level.

The V30 is attractive mostly for the wide angle camera and quad dac. Plus I know in a few months time it will be the cheapest of all of them quite significantly, so price is a factor in it.

Not sure why this isn’t right next to True Tone and Night Shift in Control Center.

Does iOS 11 put the camera settings, like changing resolution and whatnot, in the actual camera app or is it still something you have to go to the main iOS Settings menu to change?

Still in Settings. At least I can't spot any difference compared to the iOS 10 camera app in the actual app UI. Stuff like the new formats are in the Settings menu.

So here's my continuing whining about Apple's new messages notification scheme:

I checked my phone on the way to my desk, no messages. Yay. I get to my desk, notice two work email sitting in my inbox. Boo. I checked my settings, everything is set to notify, banners, etc. So then it hit me: I pull down the shade and swipe up for "older messages" and there they were.

This is the OPPOSITE of how message notifications should work. This is entirely stupid and as much as I'm enjoying other parts of iOS 11 this could be a deal breaker for me. I just do not understand the thinking at all. I've come around a bit on the wifi/bluetooth toggles, or at least the reasoning behind that change. But the notification scheme is straight up silly.

Sounds frustrating. And another inconsistency of iOS that I wouldn't be able to stand as my daily driver.

So it looked like you have no notifications when you pulled down? Wierd, mine doesn’t look like that. My only notifications are from ‘Earlier Today’ and they start about 1/3 of the way down the page. I see 5 separate notifications before I have to start swiping up.

correct. Nothing there until I swipe up. Doesn't happen constantly. So maybe it's a bug or there's some internal logic the software employs to determine how long a message has been sitting there for it to be labeled as "older". Apple could clear that up by simply killing this "feature" or giving us the option to choose it or "classic" view.

It's annoying the hell out of me because otherwise the 8 Plus is growing on me pretty quickly.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know when the Android One Moto X4 ships? I guess it can be pre-ordered now, but I'm not readily finding when it ships.
