Again, just turn the tables, and imagine what kind of tune people would be singing about a competitor's $1000 notch.

You mean the Samsung s10 , we I’ll see in 2019.

5.8 inch screen not counting the notch.
5.85 traditional rectangle counting the notch and ears.

If you line up the top bezel with the notch you will see what I mean. Apple is actually giving you more screen not less, plus no lip at the bottom.

Thats good becuase it gives more space for conent,
I feel like it’s fake at this point. Even the most non tech Joe/Jane will know the iPhone 4 I think...

so totally agree.....hopefully Samsung continues with the infinity displays as all rumors points to...

I really wish they could get the FPS under the front display for the S9...but might not happen until the Note 9
Here is a nice S9 render with the FPS under the front display...

Yep, it might happen. I could see copycats from other OEMs, too.

What phone is that?

I'm happy more phones are going toward a bezel-less experience. As I said in my X writeup, this is that full screen immersive experience we've been talking about. It's great Apple and others are joining, even if it means with a notch. I think it serves to make the iPhone iconic. I don't prefer it, but it's still the right direction for Apple to finally embark on.

I like how the bezels are slim compared to the chunky bezel on the pixel xl2.

It looks like the notch is the new Chamfered edge.

Primary - Android
Secondary - iOS

There is one thing I do like with the Dasher app on iOS. You don't need to turn on location services to use it. But other than that, Android's version has a better menu layout. I couldn't find the chat support on iOS' in case I need to cancel an order. With Android, I'm so familiar where to go..

Toss in tethering feels more complicated on iOS. Like none of my devices will connect instantly compared to an Android as a Wi-Fi hotspot. I have to keep toggling the switches over and over. SwiftKey is also much inferior on it. Can't really theme it. No animated gifs. Can't resize it to make it bigger.

I do love the fluidity of iOS but I need Android's versatility throughout the day. Thank goodness I canceled that iPhone X pre-order. I was going to use the X as the main phone to tether and use as my DoorDash daily Driver.

It's surprisingly more complicated using iOS for tethering and Dasher app menu screen to find stuff. I can still roll with iOS even though it's boring to look at with the only customization is changing the homescreen wallpaper and no file manager.

It's like iJustine with Android. She prefers iOS but she can roll with Android. I know she is an Apple homer but owns a Galaxy and Pixel. I prefer Android and smaller phones but I can roll with iOS and Plus models. Be adaptable.

They probably got people who haven't really looked at the X yet. Not everyone is as up to scratch as us when it comes to these things.

I get that, but the 4 design has been around for awhile. If its real than it shows how gullible people are.

My bet is that they interview 100s of people and most of them probably saw that it was an iPhone 4 and they pick the ones who didn't.

Remember this is purely for our entertainment. The people they showed clearly aren't phone buffs, and so made for the most entertaining ones to put on.

It's just for a laugh mate

With the notch and ears it’s 5.85, without the notch and ears it’s 5.8, measured diagonally

More screen to the right and left of the iPhone X’s notch/bezel, no bottom lip and has a wider aspect ratio than the galaxy s8

Your images, i just cropped it and put them next to each other.

Nope. 19.5:9 is wider than 18.5:9.

Aren’t the s8 screen curved as well?

5.85 isn’t a rounding error, it’s the size of the display with notch and ears according to Apple.

901ac03e6ec07ead2aae4a78d0dfcaa2.jpg

You got it wrong. Not wider but longer and narrower.

S8 5.8in screen with 18.5:9 will have same/bigger screen area than ipx 5.85in screen with 19.5:9. For IPX, minus off the notch and the ears area (since those are not usable area), the screen area is even smaller.

Any place but here or there....
Wow some iphone users are reporting the iPhone X lags in the cold when using it to type and so forth. But previous iphnes did not have that issue....

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/iphone-x-display-not-working-on-cold.2086455/

Politely: there have been cold temperature related issues to previous iPhones, my 6s shut down a few times in 40 degree weather (previous iPhones did not.) So while those may not have pertained to typing issues, it does not surprise me to hear this. I hope it's resolved.

--

As far as the subject at hand, I am rethinking my bleh to Android stance (my biggest issue beyond security, is getting my ripped movies onto the Android phone without using back door software or micro SDs which I can't stand. If there's a non evasive way to do this without letting software delopers into my phone and iTunes, I'm all ears.)

That second quibble aside, I've noticed without the headphone jack, I haven't watched as many movies on my commutes as I used to.

I really like the look of the Essential and Razer phones (and the Essential has a price point I can roll with. Plus, they're trying crazy hard to fix the camera etc.) I cannot make the jump right now, but I think I've been a bit too hard on Apple's competition. I will definitely watch both of these phones, especially the Essential.
