I think if the tables were turned, and the notch existed on another OEM's $1000 flagship device, the notch would be ridiculed to no end.

I love the X's screen and think the more immersive, bezel-less experience makes everything much more enjoyable. However, I dislike the notch and prefer the symmetry of the S8, not just for aesthetics, but for practical purposes. For example, there is no more battery percentage in the status area of the X.
I doubt it.

I think soon it will be seen more as iconic than getting bashed for it.

Your whole argument falls apart when you take into account that it is a 5.85 inch screen with the notch and ears not 5.8 like you have been dithering on about endlessly.

This is clearly very important to you, so enjoy your extra space, notch, and ears. Hopefully no one else follows that design.

You got it wrong. Not wider but longer and narrower.

S8 5.8in screen with 18.5:9 will have same/bigger screen area than ipx 5.85in screen with 19.5:9. For IPX, minus off the notch and the ears area (since those are not usable area), the screen area is even smaller.

Ok sure.
Doesn’t even understand the difference between 18.5:9 vs 19.5:9
Unusable space.

LOL! What bell-ends! People still camp outside for it!?
Look I can somewhat understand the people who camped outside for the very 1st iPhone, even then I would never do that, but I mean at this point, geez, time to let it go
I think the only product I’ve purposely made an effort to get first was a Call of Duty game many years ago. I went to a shop at midnight for a preorder. I haven’t got the patience to queue through the night for anything lol.

Ouch. iPhones are already considered quite crappy winter phones here, but if that's more widespread, it's a new low while the price is all-time high.
Yeah.... A lot of people are reporting keyboard lag on the new iPhone in MR and Reddit forums. Some are saying the keyboard lag wasn't there on the previous iphones....

This is why I can't use iOS as my primary...

2M7LUp2dcbFbrWMsNXijdFvfB6w_nT8SunDmgkiLK7IH1CMUw_2cKhnT5EIESLOJKqdqS0Rm9yriJ7r5d1TTZXM1CavELRtOTKZV7nDMIAIF8iuhIwpTqzQWWGhp0bN8svb-YlK3

I could live with using iTunes even though I much prefer file manager.

I could live with Dasher and SwiftKey being INFERIOR on iOS.

I could live with the toggles and lockscreen messages being separated even though that does get annoying and isn't intuitive.

But taking too long for my other devices to connect to an iPhone Wi-Fi hotspot and losing connection after awhile is a red flag. Any phone with the sim has to be my pocket Wi-Fi since I don't have internet at home.

Had tethering been so much easier and more battery efficient on iOS, I probably would have my sim on my SE or even on The X right now. Alas, major drawback for me. And I really did want to get The X and skipped the 7 for it.

Now if I get the X, it would need to be sim-less and look like a $1000 iPod touch when my SE which I got for only $200 last May can do that for me already and it's much smaller to act like an iPod. What's the point getting an X if I won't use a sim for it?

I have a limited selection to choose from as a primary and it's with Android. If iOS' Achilles heel is tethering for me, not having microSD and inability to be recognized on Mac using Android File Transfer is the Pixel's. And it's the only top flagship that isn't all-glass on the rear. Love the panda.

So the next in line would be Samsungs and LGs that still kept the headphone jack and have microSD slot. They also both get recognized by Android File Transfer. The problem is bloatware if you want to get it from carriers via installments.

Carriers toss in so many freebies or BOGO deals to entice you to add another line you don't need. Leeches. Unlocked is the way to go. Note8 is just too tall and LG lost some of their practical advantages by selling out to hipsters this year. IR blaster is very important to me.

I'm cool with 2016 phones that are all unlocked...

LG G5 (Phone), left holster
Apple iPhone SE (Browser), right

LG V20 (Media/Browser), home
Motorola Moto E (GPS), car

^ If I got a V30 or iPhone X, it wouldn't really improve my experience. Just throwing away more money for phones I don't need. Hate glass rears anyway.

I even checked out Essential and KeyOne only to think neither feel 100% right for me. I type slower on physical QWERTY and Essential is a fingerprint magnet with ceramic. I love its size though.

Sometimes the best for me are the ones I already have.

I have used hotspots multiple times throughout the IOSs and never had an issue once. I do not understand what issues there are. Your picture made no sense to me at all.

Hang on,

Apple quite clearly state that the iphone X is "All Screen"

I dunno. You are the fn of Cook here and the one who brought sales and him into the thread so you seem to be concerned about it for some reason.

And since you have no counter to the sales decline( and you won't as it's a cold hard fact) and we are entering deflection city here unless you can form a counter to it, don't bother replying as this bickering will lead to both of us getting suspended as before.
What a difference a few months make Qu h respect to sales, stocks and financials.:p

What difference did it make? I am not seeing any difference apart from the iPhone X driving the super cycle as I expected. If you want to check out Apple's real sales after the hype has died down, take a look at it after the X Plus launches next year and Tim Cook milks this design till 2023

Well you may not see any difference but:
1. Let’s see how Tim’s bonus is and whether it makes up for his one down year
2. Let’s see the record breaking quarter in the making
3. Let’s see what is the best selling holiday gift: iPhone X.
4. Apples valuation is up to $900 billion

So while you may not see any difference there are some differences from one year ago.

And back to how things were once this design settles. 4 years of that old design. No wonder there is pent up demand

People keep saying wait until this happens or that happens. It’s not quite happened to Apple yet. But we are not yet there; Apple is officially on another roll.
The iPhone X super cycle was predicted a year ago and this is not news. The iPhone 6 broke records yet to be topped. The iPhone X broke that record because it changed the design again. Design changes always cause record sales. Who woulda thought? Still doesnt change the decline in the 6s era and iirc the 7 too.

I haven’t seen anything to suggest the X has broken any records yet. Apple said ‘demand is off the scale’ but what does that really mean? No hint has been put forward to suggest its any more than any other iPhone. For all we know the demand is off the scale in comparison to other OLED screened iPhones. Yeah exactly. I’m pretty sure I would have met somebody with an X by now if it had broken previous records. It’s rather than rocking horse dung so far in my neck of the woods.

Plenty of stock for collection (iUP) in most London stores. I suspect initial demand was high because of the limited quantities. However, there’ll be plenty of stock over the comings weeks because the average consumer will not and cannot spend £1000+ on a new phone. I love the hardware of the X but so bored of iOS.

Yet the "All Screen" X has a lower screen to size ratio of the S8, S8+, and Note 8.

I would be surprised if iPhone X broke any records due to the simultaneous release of the iPhone 8

Even if I tried to switch to iOS completely, I couldn't live with its inferior settings customizations, toggles, worse SwiftKey, worse Dasher menu where I can't find the chat support option, less seamless tethering, and archaic notification system where toggles and messages are separated from each other.

I use my phone every single day and I need more options because my work revolves around an app, GPS, tethering, and receiving messages while walking in and out of places with varying lighting conditions.

All is not bad with iPhone though. I do love my SE's size and headphone jack. Reminds me of my time owning an iPod a dozen years ago or my iPhone 4 . Any phone used as an iPod should be compact, light, and offers headphone jack.

Control-Center-iOS-11-one.jpg

^ What a mess! Higher learning curve for me than gesture swipes. It's like if Apple wanted to toss everything at us but a kitchen sink icon.

On certain Android, you can have all those toggles in a row while still having messages appear below it. Takes only 10%-20% of the screen. Not have toggles that make up the entire screen!

Apple needs to work on their notification shade. Awful. Two menus with two different areas to swipe down. Extra steps. Takes up so much of the display.

I will be worried about it after 2nyears after everyone that wants the X design gets it and things settle back to normal. Let's be real here, apart from the screen and he design it's an incremental update from the 7.

And we will talk about revenues once X Plus has launched and a year has passed because this has always been tim's strategy. Launch incremental updates. Create Pent up demand. Some down quarters here and there. New design launched. Everyone clamouring for a new design run for the new phone. Sales record broken. Milk the new design for 3 years. Rinse and repeat.

I think worldwide it's selling like hot cakes as has been reported by many analysts. Apple's thought this through when setting the price. Although people may be getting this phone in droves, people are not going to upgrade this phone yearly because that's a lot of cash to pay for a phone and there are a lot of customers like me who buy phones full price upfront so Tim Cook's cup of coffee defence doesn't stand for us. I have paid as much for this phone I would spend on a gaming desktop which would last for years unlike this phone and that's my analogy in response to Tim Cook. So although revenues might explode initially, in the long term I don't think they will increase at the rate they used to at the older price points. The new design seems very enticing but by the time Tim Cook is done with it we will be wishing for it to go away like those big bezelled phones Apple launched.
