I believe the Mi Mix is something like 91% stb ratio, versus the S8+ of 83%. The Mi Mix 2 is supposed to be 93%. Not sure how much of that is marketing and if the true measurements are different.
I can't say I'm a terribly huge fan of the larger chin, and the front camera placement is pretty bad. But the wider aspect ratio would cinch it for me in a second, just to have that much more width on the screen means a lot. I don't believe it's even 16:9, I think it's closer to 17:9. But it's still more functionally useful as I feel the s8's curved edges are bordering on useless, making the effective screen ratio closer to 20:9 IMO.
Still, I mainly took umbrage to the use of the term "oversized brick". I think that term can safely be used with something like the iPhone 7+, but no way could I see it used for the Mi Mix.

Yeah, see this is why this entire debate is purely personal preference. I can totally respect that, it's just the way you use your phone. For me having to shimmy up and down such a tall screen would drive me nuts and impair one handed use. If anything I find it easier to reach over horizontally on the 7+ where I still had a good grip on it, versus kind of having to balance the S8+ to get to the top of the screen, just felt like the S8+ wanted to slip right out of my hand. If the 7+ just got rid of all its bezels it would be the perfect size IMO.
While not my cup of tea, the s8 is an incredible phone and I hope it sells a ton, if just to make sure Apple knows they have strong competition.

Hoping it's a wireless charger. But I'm still hesitant about the function bar, and some of us may wish for a rear mounted fp sensor if the function bar ends up badly incorporated.
Hmm I've been thinking over the last few days, I may once the next iPhone is out, buy a 6S Plus 128GB if it's price drops to below £699. I think the 7 Plus will still be over the £700 mark even when Apple drop its price. Is it worth it? Is the 7 Plus camera worth the extra money over the 6S Plus? I mean my 6S is alright, not the best but pretty good.
I think the 6S camera is fine except in low light; that's when it shows its age.
I'm right there with you. I personally don't have any problems handling my large iPhone and would much rather have a display pushed out to the edges of its current form factor vs. a similar sized display in a shrunken down frame, and especially at these 2:1 aspect ratios. But, yeah, it's all about personal preference--I can completely appreciate someone preferring max display is a smaller form factor.

Well, the 7+ is a pain to handle one handed as well, and I have large hands. If they get rid of the side bezels completely (and of course the top/bottom bezels shrunken down) it will be much easier to handle. Even if they keep the aspect ratio. I think I'd rather they shrunk down the side bezels instead of making the screen wider, but then again I really doubt I'd say no to an overall larger screen.
Has anyone done the math on the iPhone? Assuming it will have a 5.8" screen, with virtually no side bezels and assuming a 16:9 ratio I'd think we should be able to extrapolate the phone dimensions by now.

Odd, I always found the iPhone to be superior in low light, with faster moving targets and with macro shots. I always had issues with Samsung on the above factors. But if all those factors were just right then the Samsungs took the best pictures.
Once you start removing the bezels all phones are going to start to look the Same including the iPhone. Remove the home button and the iconic look of the iPhone is gone.!Not sure if the FPS is going to be on the back but if we get one more part leak than its confirmedI don't like the look of the the s8 and I sincerely hope the next top-tier iPhone looks like an iPhone and not a slab, at least they (iPhones)have some character.
The consolation is the 7s will make a nice upgrade from 7. Maybe I'll get the 7s+.

If wireless charging is the only feature the 7S Plus has I am not upgrading from the 7 Plus for it. My 7 Plus is as of now more than fast enough for my needs unless Apple slow it down later so the CPU upgrade isn't worth it either. All the cool camera and iris scanner upgrades are going to the Edition which is having base price 1K which I hope has 128GB storage otherwise I am out.
Here's the new iPhone 8
???? Is it? Where did you find that? Looks sexy.
I'll be honest I drew it during a tea break at work just for kicks
Looks like an iPhone 8 dummy model just leaked
It is Way too thick. I hope not itś gonna look like that
Bezelless? Not going to happen..
To be fair, the iPhone is always pretty distinctive from other products in the market and has familiar characteristics as part of its strong brand. Are you expecting the new iPhone to be identical to other Android phones on the market this time around? That's just an obese iPhone 6 mixed with some elements of previous iPhones. Hideous! Very much doubt Apple will even think about going down this root (if it even is an actual Apple product that has been "leaked")!

I expect the iphone to remain that way and not look like a "generic slab". IMO, Apple is not going to look like the competition. Change the iphone around a bit, but it will be recognizable as an iphone. And we won't know until Apple announces it it in Sept.To be fair, the iPhone is always pretty distinctive from other products in the market and has familiar characteristics as part of its strong brand. 100% is going to happen.
