Sorry, I was speaking about two separate things:

1) you have to be plugged in apparently to have auto updates work in the App Store.

2) you have to be on wifi to download any app larger than 100mb from the App store.

I guess you'd have to be plugged in and on wifi to auto download an app whose update is over 100mb. Shrug.

Either way, both criterias are annoying.

It's not annoying. It's wise choice. Most people don't know much about what to do with their data so Apple tries to make it easier for the average joe.

That looks pretty awesome to me!
How do you guys with the S8 hold the phone while watching something?
Maybe I am over-analyzing it...

Thats fine but at least give a choice to turn it off.

Usually on the corners or the sides of the plastic case. It'd be damn ugly by now if I didn't use a case anyway because the glass smudges and fingerprints.

Not a chance. You think they can cut holes in the OLED like a piece of paper for earpiece, camera and sensor?
The top will have bezel and so does the bottom to balance out.

Sharp was able to do that, although I don't think the screen was oled or even glass. Who knows, maybe Apple has something out their sleeves.

What makes it a fad and not just something you don't like?

I just find it wastes screen space. The curved screens along with the vary narrow resolution gives you a screen that is a fair bit smaller than advertised. Certainly it's just my opinion, but I still opine that it's a fad and in a few years, or sooner, we won't see such curved screens. But then again we hopefully will be into foldable phones by then.

Ouch, if true.

Analyst claims iPhone 8 will cost $999 for 128GB model and $1,099 for 256GB
https://9to5mac.com/2017/05/12/iphone-8-pricing-rumors-128-gb-256-gb/

Today, Goldman Sachs analyst Simona Jankowski issued a new research note to investors in which she outlines her expectations for the iPhone 8. In the note, obtained by CNBC, Jankowski predicts that Apple will offer the iPhone 8 in 128GB and 256GB capacities, coming in $999 and $1,099 respectively.

No doubt in my mind it'll still sell like hotcakes.

Compared to the S8's starting price though (around $730), the price difference is pretty great. The "Apple premium" is getting a bit out of hand, in my opinion, especially considering they're late with certain features and technology. There's really not much new technology overall; just new for Apple.

Even if they figure out the front FPS underneath the display, is that worth such a high price tag? Especially when it might be around the corner for the Note 8, and S9 shortly after?

And not going to bother comparing price to the S8+. It'd be unfair to compare considering there's presumably only going to be one size iPhone 8 (and even then, the S8+ would be cheaper).

It wouldn't be much of a difference if paying monthly anyway.

For sure. I also have no doubt people will happily pay $1000 outright, too.

This is going to be the biggest thing to happen to the iPhone. The hype is going to be real.

Im on the apple upgrade program with the 7 Plus I got last month. I can upgrade after 12 months so the 8 should be widely available, but we'll see.

It's expensive AF for sure, but still I might consider getting one. That's pretty much tied to why I moved my main SIM back to my iPhone 7 from my OnePlus 3T today. The main reason was the combination of these news: http://thehackernews.com/2017/05/oneplus-mobile-vulnerabilities.html and http://thehackernews.com/2017/05/android-permissions-vulnerability.html. Apart from the camera, I liked almost everything about my OnePlus 3T, but learning that the company has been sitting on (at least partly) easily fixable security issues since January gave me a really bad impression about the company, especially when they're not exactly known for superb aftermarket support. I also have an S7 Edge, and Samsung has demonstrated that despite charging nearly iPhone prices for their devices, they only pretend to give a ***** about updates every now and then once a newer and shinier device has hit the store shelves. So even though the iPhone costs are skyrocketing and they don't always have the latest tech, at least I know its software will be patched without delays for four years or even more. So if I split the cost between supported years, it's actually quite a bargain especially when compared to Samsungs. Maybe Pixel 2 is a possible choice for me, but Google could also improve its support cycle a bit.

That's cool. Not going to tell you what's valuable or not with your money. More power to you.

I'm not overly worried about Android security myself. It's not difficult to tell which apps are suspicious. If you're using banking apps, use the official banking app. The article itself says:

"Meanwhile, users are recommended to beware of fishy apps, even when downloading from Google Play Store. Moreover, try to stick to the trusted brands only and always look at the comments left by other users."

It's not hard to avoid suspect apps.

Apple won't get my hard earned money just for updates. They need to catch up on hardware/software first -- for me, these matter far more on a daily usage basis.

Yes, I also know how to avoid most pitfalls, but I find it troubling that Google seems to think it's OK to postpone a fix for such a problem to the next major version, which they know won't be reaching even double digit numbers of devices currently in the market. I'd love to have the latest and greatest in tech and I agree that Apple needs to step up here, but on the other hand I care a bit too much about security to be able to use a device where the manufacturer doesn't seem to be taking issues seriously enough. While Apple is far from perfect, they're at least committing to a long support cycle for their devices. But naturally everyone have different priorities.
[doublepost=1494626482][/doublepost]But I do hate the fact that I had to give up mobile payments to go back to the iPhone

I get the apps part but isn't android not secure even if you just browse the web as well?

1K for 128gigs is still expensive but tolerable. I will be getting my hands on that OLED display soon enough. Although my intention to buy an Android tablet has been scuppered by Apple because with Applecare it's going to cost more than the phones I have right now

Maybe the air pods will be included in the box though :)

My 7 plus cost me £789 so not long it's a shock this will be very expensive.

There's no way they can make enough of them for all iPhone Editions. And if it has airpods it would Ben more expensive than 1K. Besides Cook will do anything to save some $$$
