I will NEVER pay €1000+ for a smartphone. It's just too much. Given great alternative devices can be picked up for 500-600 with most if not all of the same features / usability.

The iPhone 8 will be a big miss for me if we face another price hike.

hard to justify for many to get the 8 over the S8 plus for example if it's costing £250 more. If it is costing over a grand then surely the monthly contract prices will be through the roof as well.

Yep. Even the initial outlay we have to pay up front will be around same price as something like the G6 or OnePlus 5 plus your then tying yourself into a 24 month contract after just giving them £400-500 up front. It just doesn't make sense to me anymore.

This silly pricing is the reason I bought the 6S instead of the 7 last time around. I just couldn't justify £200 more for a slightly better phone that I wouldn't use any different anyway. Next contract if the iPhone is £1000+, then i'll get the older version again. I've lost interest in having the latest and nobody I know seems interested in mobile phones these days to even notice.

It just seems a rip off to me. I've got an AW and an iPad so moving to Android doesn't interest me at the moment. I don't want to introduce a headache when iOS is doing what I need.

I'm still using a Note 4, and it's still serving its purpose

I have an SE, and I'm happy with it, though I was considering the iPhone 8. However with that said, if the rumors of a 1,000 price tag hold true, then I'll pass on it. My family is pretty much engrained in the apple ecosystem so I don't think it will be feasible for me to off the platform. I'll have to take a wait and see attitude.

Its not really that big a increase considering that it has128GB storage and if you were buying AppleCare the prices frequently exceeded 1K on a 7 plus. We just have to put up with 128GB lesser storage. If it launches with 32 gigs though its a ripoff.

The only disadvantage is that Samsung and other manufacturers will look at these prices and jack up the prices on their next flagships and we will end up with those being standard prices

I don't care what the specs are, I think it's a rip off. I don't buy the Plus model or bother with Apple Care because my phone is covered by my home contents insurance. I just can't justify paying £1000 for a mobile phone when for me I use it for standard, basic functions. I think the last iPhone I bought at launch was the iPhone 6 and that was £615. With the contract on top I think I'm at my limit to justify it.

If the iPhone 8 drops at $1000 I'm probably passing and skipping Apple for 2017 and staying with my S8+ which is excellent thus far.

My 7+ is getting more dusty by the day.

exact the same situation here, but then with my S8 and my iPhone 7. My iPhone 7 is eating dust in a drawer. Got no reason at all, to get my iPhone 7 out of that drawer.

More then happy with my S8.

After more then 2 weeks with my S8, I can be much, much more productive then I could ever been with any of my iPhones in the past (3GS/4/4S/5S/6/6S/7)

just personally got too many devices with apple to switch and also notifications i find are far better with apple. The price though is a worry as selling my 7 plus would be a £500 difference to spend

Its all thanks to Cook the price has increased. We used to get huge upgrades from number change iPhones previously at the same price. Now we have to pay extra to get them

It seems people are paying the price. But Cook has basically held the price of these phones on par since Jobs for the lower end. The upper end is different since these models where there is a difference in size were released by cook since the 6s+.

Except the smaller models aren't getting any big upgrades like they used to in Jobs era
Now you have to buy a 6 inch phone to get real upgrades so pay extra for the same upgrades we used to get

Sure they are. 4 to 4s compared to 6 to 6s. Even seems under Cook the smaller models are getting more upgrades than under Jobs.

Having said that, the philosophy of how apple releases products has changed; us plebians like it or not. They now have two flagship levels and one budget level. If the rumors hold true, and of course they are rumors, apple is selling the budget SE, will be selling the "7S" and iphone "X".

But if the rumored iphone "X" is $1000 or thereabouts fully loaded, and comes with all of this rumored technology, we'll see if people buy.

One thing Apple doesn't seem to get is that not everybody wants a huge phone. They should really be making the models equal and keeping the trade off as the size.

The only big change under Cook has been screen size amd the further he goes increasing the size the lesser he leaves for the smaller screen size. The Plus got the better display. Plus stomps the small size iPhone in battery life. The plus can be faster than the smaller phone in tasks. And now we have a 6 inch phone which gets all that 3D sensing tech, integrated home button, OLED display and better cameras and overall performance. The 4.7 inch phone is quite literally in the dust at this point. It doesn't even have dual cameras or 3 gigs of ram and will be stuck on a 750P LCD while the iPhone 8 is on a 1600P curved edge OLED

Here is how it will go down. Many have not upgraded their phones from the 6 due to lack of notable features which is what the 8 brings to the table. It has everything I have wanted in an iPhone . But at $1000 while records will be broken as the ASP gets a huge boost this isn't going to be sustainable as not many are going to spend over 1K every year on a phone. Once I get that OLED display I am not going to keep upgrading every year as its costing almost as much as a high end Windows ultra book so long term is what the question is

I stopped using iPhones years ago.The only thing left that i have that is Apple is my first gen iPod and i never even use it. Even Samsung is getting too expensive for my wallet. The S8 is just too much. When i eventually switch from the S7 i think ill just go to a Moto X, Z G.....whichever, or look at something else.
I feel for you guys that go thru multiple phones all the time. That game is too expensive for me and a pain to have to sell them all the time to get money back out of them while losing money as well and always getting a case for each one all the time. At least i always get a case. Its a must for me.

The price hike is painful indeed, but on the other hand Android manufacturers still have a lot of work ahead of them to even closely match Apple's software support. I really wouldn't like to pay €1000 for a phone that's old tech but still supported for four years or more, but on the other hand paying €800 for a phone that's really supported only for a year or so (Samsung) seems even more of a waste. Paying around €500 for a OnePlus device seems awesome, but that means having to deal with rookie security mistakes. Maybe I'll have to hope that the Pixel 2 is officially released and available also here in Finland. For after all, I'm already regretting moving my SIM from the OnePlus 3T to the iPhone 7 as I can't pay with my phone anymore. It was awkward and slow to reach for my wallet and the debit card there.

Its too bad the Nexus was discontinued. I still find the series better than Pixel which is overpriced

The "only big change" under Cook is quite the understatement. That only big change catapulted Apple forwarded. And in making that change, he made a decision about how to move forward with the product lines. Plus gets better camera, battery(well duh, the case is bigger) and screen, everything else is the same.

The only reason the plus can be faster, is working on a larger screen is faster to working on a smaller screen. That doesn't mean all the masses want a bigger screen. Plenty have opined here on MR, their preference for a smaller screen.

Many also have upgraded their phones and even Cook said the demand on the 7 has been stronger than they anticipated. Taking me as an example, I upgraded my 6s due what I thought a good value add (for me). I personally will have to see if the iphone "x" is worth it and my biggest concerns about the rumors are oled technology. If I could get an iphone "x" with lcd, I wouldn't hesitate in the blink of an eye for an upgrade; (provided I thought the value proposition was there).

4.7 inch phones will survive as a successful product line for apple for the foreseeable future.

It was a long time coming. They had to do it. Nothing great about it as nothing is really that great about Apple going OLED. It was inevitable

WHat do you mean everything else is the same? WHat I described is what makes a smartphone good. Plus has a better display, better camera, better battery and is faster. It doesnt compete with the 7 in anything but CPU speed.

Its faster because its got 3 GB of RAM and thats going to make a difference as far as future iOS upgrades are concerned

The demand for the 7 is going to be nothing in the face of iPhone 8. Its going to break all records till Sunday and Apple's stock price could reach even 200. The 7 and 6s both had a lukewarm reception and the fact that the response for the 8 is so huge shows how unexciting the earlier models were

Yes and Jobs held that one big change back. Apple rumored to be going oled imo is not the same as the 6+. 6+ was the biggest step for Apple.

It's the same except for display, battery and camera. Not everybody wants a plus size model.

It's not faster by any significance, the benchmarks prove that out.

The 6s and 7 sales were far from lukewarm as evidence by apples fiscal year to date. With Cook even saying they had not anticipated the demand. As for the rest of your post, sure, in your opinion. Speculation is what MR is about.

My issue with the price of the phone isn't that I don't want to pay for it, but rather that there are tons of really good phones at half to two-thirds of that price. I don't see how an iPhone is worth that much more than say a OP3T. It has a better camera and better support, but nothing else is better unless you're married to the Apple way. I've really enjoyed my time with my 6s Plus, but this may be the end of the road for me with an iPhone. With the quality of Android devices at much cheaper prices that literally do everything an iPhone does except iMessage, it doesn't make sense to drop a grand on an iPhone. A phone that won't even let me put an icon where I want.

Same can be said for the s8. A 3T is nearly 50% of an s8. If an iPhone isn't worth it(twice the price), then, imo, neither is an s8. But of course the next iPhone is rumor as is the price.
