They really are trying it with the prices in the U.K. Since Brexit. They even put up the price of the iPad Pro 10.5 inch by £50 tonight. For what reason, I don't know.

That’s not a UK exclusive, increased the US prices by $50 as well.

The tech is impressive, but I'm cynical towards daily usage. They made it *more* cumbersome to use Apple Pay. It actually seems easier for a stranger to unlock your phone if they can get their hands on the device with you there. Police - they can handcuff you, hold the photo up to your face, boom - unlocked.

How is that different from handcuff you and put your finger on Touch ID?

I haven’t seen most of the keynote as I was traveling all day. Apple added a new feature to iOS 11 where if you click the sleep/wake button 5 times, you can activate Emergency SOS or access your Medical ID. Another byproduct of that 5 click action—you have to use your passcode to unlock. I’m sure it will apply to the iPhone X as well to quickly secure your phone.

Jony Ive video for the iPhone X:

Seriously, they're all calling it the iPhone "Ten."

What is next year's iPhone going to be called? It basically rules out "iPhone 9."

I was hoping they’d just follow the naming conventions they use for their iPads and laptops, i.e. iPad and iPad Pro, MacBook and MBP, and just drop the sequential numbering altogether. Then you just refer to the year of the model. I have a 2013 15” MBP, not a MBP 3 or 4.

Everything about this year's round of iPhones is straight up weird. The 8's seem almost literally like 7's in a glass shell. The X seems like it should actually be the 8 vs jumping to 10 and jamming it in on sale with the other two.

BTW: Android fans rejoice: now that there are two different iOS platforms, you may begin using the dreaded "fragmented" word with Apple phones. ;)

Well, technically the iOS experience has been slightly fragmented ever since the 6S.

You can double tap a full screen video to go into true aspect ration to shrink the screen:

At 2:25 mark. No more notch in the way.

1 - FRAGMENTED! For some reason "fractured" stuck in my head.

2 - Kinda. And i'm half-joking, but only half. Using the X will be a pretty different experience from the 8's. And I think the X make the 8's seem reeeeeeeeeeeaaaally outdated now.

They're going to make a boatload per usual so I'm sure it'll all work out but still weird to me.

I have this to say about the notch:

As much as you hate the notch, you can't deny, it makes the iPhone X silhouette recognizable and easily identifiable as an Apple iPhone. I think that was part of their goal. And it's going to succeed. It will become iconic.

: slow clap :

It probably will become iconic.

I completely understand what you mean. I said very early on that I didn't like the way Apple was going about catching up: in a third, even higher, more expensive, and more exclusive tier. I also asked what kind of flagships does that make the 7S models, now known as the iPhone 8?

It is a little weird, but it doesn't matter. Today, Apple introduced the next generation of iconic smartphones.

Nothing to rejoice about per se. Apple fans will just come to realize what Android fans already knew: fragmentation isn't really a big deal.

They're going to come to appreciate a lot of what we've already been enjoying.

That’s a very good point, I think you may be correct on this.

I’m on the apple upgrade program, I can trade in my 7 Plus in may I believe, that’s when it will be in stock finally most likely lol.

Also, the more I see how the swipe function the works the more it looks pretty good.

They'll probably call next year's iPhone 9, and keep the bezel less ones as iPhone X and X Plus, then the following year the iPhone X Will be the standard one and just introduce the 11 as the new iPhone. They said it was a phone from the future.

Nothing on the 8 Plus which is worth an upgrade for me. Just the TrueTone display. The X has lesser battery life than my 7 Plus and possibly less reliable unlocking but a better display and bezelless design.

Tradeoffs everywhere

That's a very heavy phone for a smallish 5.5in screen and much heavier than 170+grams S8+
That’s not the main issue. There is nothing on it which makes any 7 Plus owner want to spend over 800 on it.

Honestly this doesn’t even deserve to be called an S update.

True, but honestly I'll have to play with it in the apple store before I make a decision. I'm not sold on the loss the touch id or oled at this point. But I don't mind a heavier phone that feels good in the hand. We'll see.

It's such a shame about the front design, because the Silver iPhone 8 with the white glass back is pretty stunning. I love white phones. And I love glass-back phones. It's a beautiful combination and a real step up from the Silver iPhone 7.

I wish Samsung would do a white version like this.

And seriously the same ips lcd 1080p screen - so low end. And the recycled 4 years old design...so meh
