We'll just sold my 7 Plus for €700 and got a cheque back from the Revenue for overpaid taxes last year, so that's my justification sorted.

Now to decide Silver or Black X

Only thing stopping me will be if Pixel XL 2 lives up to my hopes and actually releases here. If not I'll buy the X now and the V30 after Christmas and keep my current Pixel XL.

Silver X all day long. I think it highlights the design much better than the black.

Some of you guys think the OLED panel in the iPhone X is a two year old panel from Samsung? I would be shocked if that were true. So that means, according to Apple's presentation, when they said "OLED technology has finally caught up to our personal standards" they're referring to two year old OLED tech? I doubt that.

But then again, if "brightness" was a standard before Apple could use OLED, and they're still maxing out at a lower Nit rating than current Samsung flagship displays, then who knows what game they're playing. More Apple marketing mumbo jumbo?
No it's not a two year old panel. Clearly as this panel supports 2017 features like HDR and has both accreditations.

Folks are saying it's max Nit brightness appears to be same as the S6. That is not the same as the same panel quality and it also doesn't really mean anything as Apple's brightness spec on its website is often conservatively below that of the actual real brightness.

All we currently have is anecdotal evidence from a brief handson and those conservative specs. Until we get a proper tear down we will not know it's max Nit brightness

Either way it is still not a 2015/16 panel. It's a 2017 panel, albeit one which may end up not being as bright as the S8 or Note 8.

I already had the offer on my 7 plus before the announcement. It was the tax rebate that really swung it otherwise I wouldn't bother.

Ah, makes sense :) I'm still riding the now all-too-familiar iPhone rollercoaster with upgrade lust and Apple's pricing fighting for the go/no go decision. However, the BlueBorne vulnerability gave a nice reminder about why even a more expensive phone that's updated promptly for years can still be a good use for the money.

If you're worried Apple isn't getting enough profit margins with their increased iPhone prices, fear not:

iPhone 8 and iPhone X fast charge battery to 50% in 30 minutes, if you buy USB-C power adapter

iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone X support fast charging. You can go from 0 to 50% charge in 30 minutes …

However, to take advantage of fast-charging, you cannot use the Lightning to USB-A cable that is bundled in the box. Fast charging requires a USB-C to Lightning cable and the USB-C wall charger.

More specifically, one of three USB-C wall chargers. Apple sells 29W, 61W and 87W variants of its USB-C power adapters. Prices range from $49 to $79.

Apple doesn’t break out specific numbers on how each model affects charging times, it’s not clear if the cheapest 29W model can achieve the advertised 50% recharge in 30 minutes.

So in other words, no fast charging unless you buy the apple overpriced charger?

That's what it sounds like. And from the same article:

Does Qi charging charge faster than wired?

I think they're rumored to limit wireless charging speeds where it will be faster than the plug they give in the box but slower than fast charging.
Well thats good because even the iPad charger is slow as heck on the Plus models.
[doublepost=1505317892][/doublepost]Im also wondering about the iPhone X screen width. I hope its the same width as the 7/8 Plus.
I dont like how the Galaxy S8 5.8' version has a slimmer screen.

Seems like all the wireless chargers offered from Apple and partners are flat charging mats/pads.

I'm shocked nobody is offering a charging stand. Stands are so much better for aesthetics and functionality. I can face unlock my S8 while it's on the stand, and I can use it for most actions, too. All while my device is charging. Plus, at night, with AoD, it makes for a beautiful nightstand.

Thankfully with the Qi standard, you can purchase stands, too. I recommend them. I much prefer them over the flat pads.

The standard iPhone charger is completely useless. I only use iPad chargers because I can't wait 18 days for my f*cking phone to charge.

Apple is being really crappy here not including a fast charging plug with the new phones. Really really crappy.

I'm actually surprised Apple used the Qi standard. If I had to bet money, it would be that they developed a proprietary wireless charging system.

Least we can buy 3rd party chargers that are standing up as an option..as there's no fast wireless charging so won't matter which you get.

Tons of them I bet. If mom/dad don't get it for them, I'm sure even a low paying job can support $45/month for a kid living at home.
I don't know many teenagers who spend £60 p/m plus an upfront cost for a mobile phone these days. Most I encounter are using iPhones 6's handed down. Older teenagers who are old enough to work might buy it but not in abundance. Teenagers in the UK are either more lazy or less wealthy than American teenagers. We are after all looking at at least £1300 on contract here.

According to Apple developer guidelines the iPhone X has the same width screen as the 4.7' but taller.

This is disappointing as I felt the 4.7' iPhone were hard to use with two hand typing. I'm used to the Plus sized width.

I know plenty of them, see them all day in my waiting room on their new 7/7+ iphones or S8/8+, I'm expecting some Note 8's any day now. All my friends complain that their teens want the latest and greatest. Of course that's just anecdotal and I'm not saying I know in general. My kids are too young to worry about that yet, sigh... But if they don't have any other bills then I don't see needing to be wealthy to afford $40-50/month if they are working.

Yep and you'll note they advise developers to use a "safe" zone to include all their content inside, the safe zone is only marginally wider than the 4.7" iPhone full screen because of the rounded corners and notch. It may not even be larger, I'm not sure I didn't look up the exact pixels.

But back to your point, I guess everyone is on this 18:9 kick, I'm hoping it's a fad. Even the Mate 10, which I was hoping would have kept 16:9, has succumbed to the new aspect fad.

I've used the S8 and felt the screen is too narrow. The S8 + on the other hand I believe has the same width as the Plus iPhones. It felt good to use.

You will note that the content of the webpage is within a safe zone that is away from the rounded corners and the notch. So if the devs follow Apples design guidelines the notch will NOT be an issue. Of course it looks FUGLY and terrible, but shouldn't affect functionality.
I rarely view web pages horizontally, not a big deal IMO.

EDIT: I think as someone posted earlier, the ears are there for the X to be distinctive so people will know "oh thats an iPhone"
