If you think you might have trouble I might be an idea to buy the phone upfront then return if any issues. You could even look at a battery replacement
I thought about battery replacement for my 2020, should get 2 more years of updates with it, I think, but would get more with 2022.

You should be fine although some are reporting the iOS 17 may have introduced dithering to the XR, 11 and SE. I’ve not updated my 11 through fear of this.
I would not update it, wou oh d leave it with what it comes with, which I think it iOS 15. What iOS do u use with iPhone 11?

Well, a battery replacement is considerably cheaper than a new phone. But if you can afford it, get the SE 2022 - it’s the last LCD iPhone.

FYI - I’m on 16.7

How’s your iPhone 11 holding up? No eye issues with it? How long do u think updates will last?

Everyone is different, but people who suffer from PWM/TLM eye-strain are generally completely fine with iPhone SE (2022 aka 3rd generation) and the latest iOS version. It is the best option, in my opinion. I am going to buy the 256 GB version as it will probably be the last iPhone that doesn't use PWM/TLM... maybe forever.

That is what I am thinking since everything is oled now if the 2022 is fine, it will get another like 4 years of updates

Last I read they are still coming out with a new SE in 2024 and I'm still holding out hope it will be LCD and no home button with the modern gestures. But I am not confident they will do anything to address this but hanging on to that glimmer of hope.

I wish but I heard it will probably be Oled instead of it.

Hi everyone. I have been using my iPhone se 2020 for 3 years now with no problems but the battery is getting bad. If I get a new iPhone se 2022 will I have any problems or since I don’t with 2020 I should be fine? I am someone who is does have sensitive eyes. Thanks
There’s really no difference in the display between the 2020 and 2022 SE. It will be fine.

I’m still holding out hope that they figure out how to fix this on OLED, which they will need to do or they’ll be excluding PWM-sensitive customers from all of Apple’s latest products with the Mac and iPad switching over, rather than hope that they stick to a dated and inferior display technology.

I am really hanging on this glimmer of hope as well.

I’ve been switching between a XR and 13PM to try and get used to it and the XR always feels like a dream to use after the 13PM.

A XR with the SE22 internals… I would think $499 was a great deal at this point.

@MICHAELSD, are you bailing on trialling a standard 15? I've had a 256gb model in my basket for two weeks.......
Quite honestly, I feel like it’s becoming excessive. If Apple doesn’t mind I suppose I could put up with the process, but I envision myself opening iPhone 15, going “yup, these headaches are exactly the same as iPhone 13/14,” and boxing it back up.

If I were to order iPhone 15 Pro Max, which is also unlikely although both are tempting, then I could see myself giving it a more honest trial but then possibly not even making it through the holiday return window.

It doesn’t help that I’ve become a regular at my local Apple Store and even the UPS guy recognizes whenever I order from Apple, although much of that was also products that I ordered and kept long-term.

I’m slightly curious to try one more iPhone this generation. It’s just that there’s really not enough of a difference that I think it will be any better for us. Realistically, I probably will pre-order next year and hope for the best. It’s frustrating since my plasma technically flickers and that doesn’t bother me since I’m not perceptible to it at all. I just want an iPhone with a flicker frequency that’s imperceptible to PWM-sensitive users if they can’t or won’t do flicker-free on OLED.

Trust me — it’s not worth the hassle and inevitable disappointment. Everything about iPhone 15 is fantastic… even the weight… it feels so much lighter than iPhone 11, and even the Apple silicone case fits so much better… but that display… it’s just awful.

I am planning to buy iPhone SE 256 GB on Black Friday (currently have 128 GB) as it may very well have to be a long-term phone.

Pretty much sums it up
So, iPhone 15 Pro Max then? :)

I’m beginning to resent this iPhone SE, but in a vacuum it’s an iPhone 8 with upgraded silicon. The display isn’t even bad on its own. I just feel that iPhone 15 Pro Max is going to cause the most hassle to buy and possibly return.

I was also thinking about purchasing another iPhone SE with Apple’s promotion since I only planned on keeping this current cracked device short-term. Suffice to say Battery Health is at 87% so I may personally be better off just getting it fixed.

As noted, it’s not bad in a vacuum. If it isn’t put next to a newer iPhone it’s totally fine. This runs iOS smoothly and works well enough, but man the new iPhones are admittedly much better in every way.

Well this is a kick in the stones, returned my iPhone 15 and bought a 13 base in the Apple Store…. Never had issues with the 13 at all and now having issues with it 😒

I do have to admit that I had ordered an iPhone 15 Pro Max yesterday AM and cancelled it. I just see a positive outcome as being unlikely, even if I’m happy for @PwmMen despite the data not being promising.

I suppose the point of testing different iPhones is to eventually find one with PWM flicker that isn’t perceptible to one user personally. Other users’ experiences pushed me away from iPhone 15, and suffice to say I am still best suited by the Pro Max iPhones—not that I don’t miss the mini. I have circled back to iPhone 15 as being the most hassle-free option to possibly test next. But the base iPhones are usually more boring for somebody that isn’t activating and using them full-time, while offering a charming design and plenty of value for the average consumer.

If it wasn’t for iPhone SE feeling so dated relatively, while being built well for those that are considering it, I would hold off until next generation. Then next generation. Then next generation until I’m shocked and elated by a modern iPhone display that doesn’t make my eyes and head throb 24/7.

It's so frustrating. I have 6 lines on my Verizon plan, and each line could receive free iPhone 15 Pro phones. Free. ($6,000 -- lost, because I am paying the line fees regardless.) The fact that I can't use that offer really frustrates me.

Even if someone tries all models, generations, and variations of recent OLED iPhones, and they happen to find one that doesn't give them eye-strain, I don't know how they wouldn't constantly be thinking about it.

My concern is two-fold:

1. The fact that these phones give me eye-strain. (Eyes are fatigued, headache, sick feeling.)
2. Knowing what is actually happening with PWM. Why would I subject my eyes to constant flickering? What are the long-term effects to my eyes/health?

now i see it

My-my eyes!!

Just kidding (sort of)…the 15 is somehow basically comfortable for me. Perhaps I’m just lower-sensitivity or perhaps it’s just the aforementioned screen lottery (more like Russian Roulette, am I right?). Meanwhile looking at the Pro models’ screens even briefly makes me wanna vomit.
