For those who ordered the ATI 4850....

Just received notice that my 24" iMac w/ 4850 has shipped, will be here on Monday (4-20). Originally ordered on Mar 4.

Keeping my fingers crossed that I happen to luck out and get one that doesn't freeze up (and my true condolences to anyone that has received one of those).

Has anyone had their iMac get "stuck" in Union City, CA?

My iMac shipped out April 16th and according to Apple was going to arrive April 17th (I paid for overnight shipping). However, FedEx shows it arriving on the 20th, and that it was sent via 2-Day. I called Apple and FedEx, and it appears that when it was shipped from Union City, it was accidently marked 2-Day. Apple refunded my entire shipping charge, which is perfectly fine, it was likely just human error, it happens.

What is weird is that the package has showed "in Transit" from Union City, CA since 11:03PM on the 16th. Its now the 18th, almost a full 48 hours later, and there has been no changes on the tracking page. I called FedEx again around 10am today, and they said they would locate it and call me back. They never called me back.

Has anyone else seen a package tracking just stop like that? I've used FedEx for years and not seen it myself, but I've also never had the shipper send via the wrong method either.

Yeah, it was Saturday delivery AND overnight! Pretty lucky imo, I didn't even call apple since making my order.

It did freeze up once after I installed my software updates, but my music was still playing and my dock would un-hide when I mouse'd over it, I just couldn't click anything or bring up the task manager. After a restart, I have been smooth sailing since, running itunes, ventrilo, firefox and WoW freeze-free.

I was looking forward to ordering the 4850 iMac up until I saw all these freezing posts.

It would be a lot more reassuring to hear more from people who aren't experiencing the freezing issues with their 4850 iMac.

I am planning to order an iMac this coming Friday. I really want to buy the 4850 iMac but if it seams like the majority of 4850 owners are having freezing issues I'm gonna just buy a refurbished 8800 iMac instead.

Probably Bento. I, too, sprung for the numeric keypad. That was my only other customization besides the 4850. Hopefully that doesn't set you back more than a day.

My iMac has been in Reno, NV since 10:30am on the 16. I got standard shipping, so I'm guessing it's on a truck across the county to NJ. I am a little upset with myself that I didn't spring for a faster method. I figured that since it was coming by truck that I wouldn't get an update till monday. (FedEx is saying it will be delivered on Tue)

Here is the latest update 12:30 am PST USA

Second iMac is set for delivery on Monday 20th of April, which is a holiday in MA. Right now it is sitting in the FedEx South Boston facility since Saturday morning. 60 miles from house but no weekend delivery even though they say 24 hr ..... Weekends do not count... Monday will see it pass my house on its way to the FedEx facility in West Yarmouth and then back in this direction for delivery.

I thought I was unique with my problem, but I am beginning to wonder with all the people having problems with freezing and non functioning pixels...

Departed Oakland Ca at 7:28PM
Departed Memphis TN April 18 at 1:32 AM
Arrived at E. Boston MA at 6:58 AM
Arrived at E. Boston MA local facility at 9:06 AM

And it is still in E. Boston as FedEx does not do weekend delivery. From my experience, I would say you have a problem. Call Apple and insist on an answer and some form of monetary compensation for all your problems.

Pulled mine out of the box last night. 2.93 24" with 4850. Had a bit of an issue with the migration assistant from my G5 tower, claimed towards the end that the target drive wasn't responding, but seemed to have done it all anyway.

One lock-up so far after about 8 hours use, in World of Warcraft, just while idling. I'm running a second monitor as well - formac 2010. Temperature monitor showed the graphic card heat sink to be at 67 degrees when it locked. Sitting at 56 at the moment. Interestingly, it's not by any means the hottest bit - the "Northbridge" heatsink, whatever that is, is currently at 66, and the power supply is at 65.

bad luck about the lock-up mate, if it does it once it'll keep doing it

This is what I'm most concerned about, and I actually believe it to be true. I've sent mine back for a replacement last Wednesday, and all I can say is if the replacement freezes just once during the first week, I am calling apple.

A computer should never freeze! Even a freeze rate of once/week is intolerable... you never know when you might be working on an important project or writing a 10 page paper, and the computer freezes on your unsaved work
