The point of a 'Google Edition' phone is that it receives the 'Nexus Experience.' That means it is pure AOSP. It will get updates whenever Google releases them. A Nexus 4, Galaxy Nexus or Nexus 7 won't get updates faster than a Nexus S4.

That could be very true and would be great. My point is though that all the features that comes with the S4 wont be on it and you wont even get the added camera features because those are all Samsung added things.

Dont know about you but though i dont care for the TW launcher,(i use Nova or Apex) i do like other aspects of TW and i would definitely want all the camera features. You will get Google Wallet though which is something that doesnt work w/ TMobile because they support the Isis app instead.

I chose to run my S4 i9505 just as it came out of the box for ten days, simply to establish a baseline, and to see if it was fault free, a practice that's served me well in the past.

Once I had ten concurrent successful days of heavy usage completed, I too chose to migrate to the
CyanogenMod only. Largely due to my preference for modding a step at a time, and because I've had great results with CM on my other Androids.

It's only been three days at this juncture, yet it's looking like the battery life's going to be excellent. As compared to my S3 which in its own right was quite good, the number of refinements and little improvements to both the hardware & software of the S4 make this an excellent upgrade. Well worth the purchase.

The Google version will not have any of the gestures on it. It will have pure android. I can understand not liking touchwiz as i dont use the TW launcher either but all those gestures and features of the camera even on the S4 are TW based and Samsung added things.
You may as well get a Nexus 4 so you will at least get faster updates or get the S4 through a carrier if your want the features. I would at least want all the camera features.

Nexus 4 doesn't come with a 13mp camera, 2600 mah battery, more than 16 GB storage, and LTe, things that I would benefit from.

I don't care a single bit about even one touchwiz Feature, it is the hardware I am after. Stock is best software to me.

anybody know if there is a way to change the color theme of the stock calendar app? Not the event colors, but the color of the background, buttons, etc? is that possible? thanks

CyanogenMod 10.1 for the Galaxy S4

I have been using this for a few days now and I am so impressed. The rom is so polished and refined. Even the keyboard that comes stock with the rom is great. I find myself making less mistakes when typing than on any other keyboard. The whole rom makes me feel like I have the Android experience that my phone should have came with in the first place.
Has anyone else tried CyanogenMod on their S4?

So as I think about the S4 vs S4 Active I'm curious how useful (if at all) people have found the temperature, barometer, and humidity sensors?

I'm leaning towards the S4 Active as I like the screen better in the store comparing side-by-side, don't care about the camera MP, but did notice people mention the lack of these environmental sensors in the Active.

Thoughts? Have you found these to be useful?

Works good for me. I mainly use them with an app called Weather Station.

Thanks for the reply and the app link.

I'm still seeking a sense of how important they are in general; i.e. am I likely to miss them if I chose the S4 Active since I've never had them to begin with?

I would say no. It's nice to have, but I really don't need it.

It's looking worse and worse for my Sprint S4. I woke up this morning and AT&T had flipped the switch on LTE in Odessa TX. My One X is blazingly fast now while the S4 is just crawling along like a turtle (network wise of course)

Sorry dude....but everytime I have had sprint.....their network was slower than mole-asses..... Feel for you...can you get out of the contract?

I dunno, somewhere in West Texas

Unfortunately not I've only been with Sprint a month now but I'll probably end up keeping both my AT&T lines as well as the 2 lines with Sprint. See I work in West Texas but I live in Houston so I really have no problems when I go back home. It's only out here in the boonies where I'm constantly roaming because Sprint is horrible.

I'm trying to install CM10.1 on my S4 (i9505), but I'm stuck at the custom recovery. Basically, I don't know what to do here (have already rooted with CF-Auto-root) and what exact steps I need to do to get the custom recovery installed - thus far I can see the stock recovery, but that's not where I'm supposed to be.

Do you have a .tar or a .zip file?

It should be a .tar file, which you have to flash with odin.

Got hyperdrive ROM on my S4. It is great. Not that the phone wasn't great before, but now I've gotten rid of the bloatware and the phone feels even smoother. And there is free tethering to boot!

The GE edition ROM is live and can be flashed to the compatible variants now. All reports indicate that it is flawless and even able to support some samsung stuff once hacked into it.

Now just have to grab a S4 and flash it....
