S-View Flip Cover is such a dumb gimmick.

I don't get it.

First, my phone is in my pocket most of the time when not being used.
Second, why just a tiny see thru window? Why not make the whole cover see thru plastic?
Third, the screen goes off when not in use and requires you to open and close the lid for this pointless gimmick.

Talk about running out of useful ideas.

What do u mean? The window would be for quick view of notifications and time. Why does the whole front need to be clear, it would waste battery with the screen on all the time. The whole point is to provide a form of protection too. And color. It's like asking why isn't the iPad cover clear too

Covering part of the screen saves battery? Are you saying if I cover half the screen with a piece of paper, I'm saving battery? :D

The screen needs to be on to see notifications and time, whether or not the whole front is covered or not.

Nearly every hands-on or software demo video of the S4 reveals some lag. I can't believe I'm still seeing lag.

What the heck.

Not anywhere near as laggy as my iphone 5 currently is..

Whats wrong with your iPhone 5 then? I really hate to defend Apple, but iOS is definitely the least laggy OS, trailed very closely by Windows Phone, and then far back comes Android.

By lag I mean, if you move your finger, the screen lags behind.

If we are talking fluidity, I think Windows Phone beats out iPhone slightly which beats Android by a good margin.

Not sure whats up...it freezes, takes ages to move from app to app, sliding across you name it. It's odd as my mums iphone is doing it too as she just got a replacement.

Have you used a nexus 4?

I cannot imagine how laggy all other phones feel after using it. I would say it is completely on par with wp/ios in terms of fluidity.

Those skins and bloat doesn't really help the non nexus phones.

Agree, after using nexus 4 it was clear the "skins" are to blame ! Thats the only thing that worrys me about the htc, Sense 5 (think is the name of htc skin) looks extreme.

Havent used it but Ive seen it used. Its definitely better than the average Android phone, but still not as good as iPhone or Windows Phone still. It seems to be at a point where the lag is negligible for the most part though.

If you watch this video, which if you believe me was the first video of use I pulled up you still see how it just feels like the phone is out of your control which really gets to me.

Hmm. I used mine for a week. Did everything i do on my iPhone. Even read huge pdfs on it. Couldn't find any lag.

It was such a nice experience I am tempted to rebuy it. I have lost my faith in skinned android.

All the reviews have said stated categorically its blazingly fast with no traces of lag.

Sense 5 looks heavy, but its actually very refined compared to any other version of Sense. They have dropped a lot of the useless 3D and animations that slow an OS down so whilst it looks different its relatively stripped back.

Sense 4+ the last sense update was actually very smooth too, but Sense 5 is vastly better.

Actually I'd like to see the benchmarks of the HTC international variant of the One X and x+ after they are updated. The last updates made them much faster in all the benchmarks and you could noticeably feel the improvement, I can only imagine Sense 5 will give them a new lease of life.

My Nexus 4 is dead after It felt screen flat in the concrete. Now I have an iPhone 5 and it's great.. The S4 looks very nice but I'm very happy with the integration I have with my iMac and the iPhone. I'll stay with the iphone for now.

Man, the more I watch the various hands-on videos that are out, the more I like how this thing looks. Those visual changes from the S3 are actually pretty significant for the balance of the design, I really hated that elongated "chin" around the homebutton on the S3. And the smaller bezels makes the whole thing look more slick.

That said though...what I'm really (really REALLY) looking forward to now is the Note 3

The screen needs to be on to see notifications and time, whether or not the whole front is covered or not.

If Samsung aren't completely stupid then only the part of the screen not covered by the S-View cover will light up. Pretty sure that's how it works. Why would they turn on the whole screen when you can only see that tiny bit?

It's a good feature, I'm not sure what your problem is with it. Apparently it lights up for notifications. If you didn't have a notification, there would be no need for you to open and then close the cover to get it to light up unless you were just playing with it.

Tried a restore? Is it jailbroken? That's definitely not normal. Mine is lightning fast.

And AMOLED screens don't consume power while displaying black. In this case, the background of the cut-out is black. What a coincidence!

Exactly :) It looks like a very low power way of keeping an eye on your phone. My iPhone sits on my desk and the entire screen lights up when I get a message. With the S4, only a tiny window would come on through the flip cover. Much more power efficient - I guarantee battery life will be incredible with that accessory.

No not jailbroken...it's odd I've had it since dec and been great for the most part but the last few weeks has become very laggy.
