The 12 hour battery life from 8 am to 8 pm you say your iPhone gives you actually isn't that good compared to my Samsung Galaxy Note 2. For a regular day for me, if I unplug my Note 2 from the charger at 8 am, I would still have at least 95% battery life at 8 pm if I haven't been using my phone during work. And this is with several background apps running on my Note 2. If I were to make calls, text, and surf the web during lunch and after work, by 8 pm, I would still be around 80%.

100% BS.... Not even going to discuss with you. It's 100% BS..

I get my iphone off the charger at 8:00am and the battery lasts up to 8pm... That's not good?... Please!

AHAHAH, DAMN, low expectations or iphone reality?? I regularly get 19-20h out of my note 2 with super heavy usage

We're talking a 1440 mah battery versus 3100 mah battery.....

The Note 2 had better get better battery life! I find my iPhone 5 gets about 1.5 - 2 days on a charge with my pretty easy use. I charge my devices while I'm sleeping so it really is a moot point....

I also run my iPhone 5 with everything on all the time and brightness at about 40-50% (give or take with that slider).

Here's my most recent battery life on my Note 2. It was about 70% battery life last night. Just turned on my Note 2 and I got a battery low warning with 15% battery left.

Comparing my Note 2 without SIM to my iPhone 4S without SIM. This is when the phones aren't being used as my primary phone.

My Note 2:

1 day 16 hrs on battery.
40 mins of screen time.
15% battery life

My iPhone 4S:

Standby: 2 days, 6 hours
Usage: 7 hours, 29 mins
1% battery life

You note2 is definitely busted or you have rouge apps or you are making things up - take your pick :p .

My Note2 gets about 48hrs uptime with screen on time of 4-5 hrs + 2-3hrs of calls per charge.

Nope.

That's what happens when you don't use the Note 2 for a while. It just keeps downloading a bunch of crap and updates in the background.

If I remember correctly, the auto update is turned off by default in Playstore. Firmware update is auto by default but these are not so frequent. Even with these turned on it would not affect battery that much. So you must have some other apps that are causing these background downloads. In other words, your battery life is not typical since you are always downloading crap stuff to the phone no typical users would do normally.

We're of course using your usage pattern here...

iOS don't record screen time but based on my estimates i'd say about 4.5-5 hrs roughly of screen time.

Time for you two to take back your accusations: My screenshots from today showing I got 17 hours 26 minutes on battery with 2 hours 15 minutes of on screen time (in addition to phone calls/messages/background tasks) and still at 83% battery. My Galaxy Note 2 has absolutely great battery life.

If this turns out true even better news. More reason for me personally to stay with the SGS3 and not upgrade until next year.

The SGS3 plus Android 5.0 is a great combo for the next 2 years. Maybe I won't feel the need to upgrade until my contract expires.

It's great that the s2 will get supported that far into its lifespan. I wonder how long the update will take. Waiting for jellybean was ridiculous on the gs3. That's the one thing I don't like on android is cell providers installing bloatware that takes months to release.

I'm gonna stick with the s3 for another year and see what the nexus 5 is like. The s4 is a great phone for people who's contracts are up now though (and spec wise will probably kill the 5s).

Not necessarily unequivocal proof. Those screenshots could simply be more of a testament to your low-key usage pattern more than the Note II's battery prowess.

But the opposite might also be true and the Note II may indeed have "absolutely great battery life" in general

Then again both can be true. your Note II has great battery life because of your relatively mild usage pattern

You could also have carefully constructed your usage by leaving the phone largely untouched and then doing some mild usage (screen brightness can be brought waay down too to aid this) to get you your favourable result.

Not that you would of course, i mean who has the time to put in the effort just to win an internet argument right ;)

Oh, brother. I will just enjoy the great battery life on my Galaxy Note 2 that lasts me longer than any smartphone I've owned including my last iPhone.

no matter how you spin it, the note 2 has insane battery life.

Im not spinning anything. Did you read my post. I listed all plausible explanations for the screenshot...including Note II having great battery life. Why so defensive

That figures is highly possible without doing any cheats. I set my screen to max brightness and drop rate is about 12% an hour of screen on with surfing data usage. standby uses very little battery.

If you wouldn't mind, I'd love to see the additional data when you click the battery life graph itself. How often does your phone "wake" during the day, whats your cell coverage like, etc...

Also do you use any custom kernels or ROMs? Sorry if I missed that earlier.

Clearly the Note 2 will get great battery life, if only from the fact it has a massive battery (3100 mAh compared to the 1440 mAh in the iPhone 5).

S4 costs more to make than the beloved metal iPhone5

http://www.gottabemobile.com/2013/03/19/samsung-galaxy-s4-price-iphone-5/

Samsung-Galaxy-S4-price.jpg

The Samsung Galaxy S4 price off contract may be lower than the iPhone 5, but a new report claims the Galaxy S4 is more expensive than the iPhone 5 when it comes to parts and manufacturing.

A new IHS sSuppli report dives into the base of the Samsung Galaxy S4 price, with an analysis of the Samsung Galaxy S4 bill of materials. The report finds that the cost of Samsung Galaxy S4 parts is $233 for the LTE version and $236 for the Exynos equipped HSPA version. This is more expensive than the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the iPhone 5.

Apple’s Tim Cook is well known as a supply chain guru who can keep parts costs down, which may explain part of why the iPhone 5 reportedly costs $34 less to make than the Samsung Galaxy S4 with LTE. The rest of the difference can is explained by the added hardware and upgraded components Samsung uses in the Galaxy S4.

The Samsung Galaxy S4′s 5-inch 1080P HD display adds $75 to the price of the device, $31 more than the iPhone 5 Retina Display. Samsung also spends significantly more on sensors inside the Galaxy S4, which allow the device to perform smart software features like the one shown below.

So plastic sucks, right? ;)

Convenient how you leave out of your quote the part of the article that clearly explains why it's more expensive. ;)

This is likely exactly why they use plastic, or their margins would take a beating, or they'd have to increase price. In fact, I seem to recall Samsung admitting they use plastic to keep cost down.

Just curious, why can't they invent a way to make aluminum (or even glass, whatever) removable?

There has to be some Nokia or Motorola phone that was aluminum, but had a removable back.

EDIT: some of the Nokia N Series products, and RAZR flip. It can be done, people just don't do it

The HTC Inspire had fantastic build quality and had a removable SD card slot and battery. Why they got rid of both is beyond me.

No CM for the S4 (Exynos, at least; unless some other dev/dev team picks it up) is a giant turn-off for me. I was really looking forward to purchasing either the One or S4 but it looks like I'll be sticking with the DNA for a while. Although the HTC One developer's edition may be a viable option, I'm still waiting for confirmation on S-OFF there. That would probably make me switch.
