No CM for the S4 (Exynos, at least; unless some other dev/dev team picks it up) is a giant turn-off for me. I was really looking forward to purchasing either the One or S4 but it looks like I'll be sticking with the DNA for a while. Although the HTC One developer's edition may be a viable option, I'm still waiting for confirmation on S-OFF there. That would probably make me switch.

Excuse my ignorance but what's cm?

The fact that HTC is charging more for a specific dev edition is pretty greedy in my opinion.

I can bet money that the S4 will have the same dev community as the S3. Just gotta wait and see. The phone will be popular enough for CM to basically HAVE TO develop for it.

except the CM team already came out and refuted the claim that they weren't going to work on the S4.

Phew ... that honestly would have been a deal breaker for me.

Touchwiz is so bloated and CM is the best ROM in my opinion.

Actually, the HTC One Developer Edition is 64GBs for $649. It's bootloader/SIM-unlocked. This is MUCH cheaper than purchasing it from a site like Expansys or Negri. The only thing keeping me away from it is whether it's S-ON or S-OFF.

The only downside is the phone will only work properly on AT&T, not T-Mobile. It will get LTE on AT&T. I believe it's also compatible with T-Mobile LTE, but that's barely even out yet.

That's not what I mean, sorry for the confusion.

They shouldn't be selling a dev. edition in the first place. All of them should come with the boot loader unlocked, like Samsung does.

Looks like the S4 to get is indeed the Snapdragon version, which is what the U.S. carriers will be getting anyways :) CM team will develop for the U.S. Snapdragon S4 for sure, it's the Exynos one they have a difficult time with, due to no help from Samsung, and will pretty much abandon those models.

Why is the Exynos version so asked for and wanted then ? People are poo pooing the Snapdragon S4 as a lesser model ?

Because the exynos 5 is using next gen true arm a15 cores and clock for clock will blow away s4 600 cores.

You do know that cm works for Samsung right?

I read that the head guy Steve from CM, left for Samsung couple years ago, and rumors say he tells Samsung to stop wasting your time with that CM team.

End of the day, people running a CM ROM on their Galaxy S3 right now, is lucky to be .05% of sales. Samsung could give two *****s about ROM makers.

Cm is the main reason why the stock touch ROMs on Samsung phones run so smooth they actually out bench any asop rom and run 5x better and trust me I have tried every ROM and went back to touch with a custom launcher.

Cm is a software engineer for Samsung and is under NDA so of course he won't support any Samsung devices.every cm ROM right now is ported over to run on a gs3 and cm does not officially support the devices.

You won't see any cm ROMs getting any features Samsung touch ROMs have and to be honest touch has beat asop in my eyes and offeres way more useful features.

I'm still going to wait for the initial reviews. I want to see how the Note 2 price changes when the S4 drops.

I imagine, size wise, it won't be any bigger than the S3. But a 13 megapixel camera? Yikes!

It's actually slightly taller, but also slightly narrower and thinner than the S3. It's actually pretty impressive that they've managed to fit all that shiny new hardware and a bigger screen inside a smaller body.

----------

Well who is getting the 8 core? I assume it isnt the USA?

m in Australia and I'm sort of unsure which one I actually want. The Snapdragon 600 will be a rocket, but I'm excited to see how the octa core balances power efficiency and raw grunt.

There have been seem great hands on videos - but was watching this one and it made me laugh. Simply because it seemed to show the demonstrator as absolutely clueless and disinterested.

This is not how you demonstrate your hardware. The guys disspassion is only emphasised further by the other persons genuine enthusiasm.

Haha, I loved it, especially with all the pauses by the demonstrator. The best was at about 2:00 minutes he thinks out loud saying "Umm <pause> what else can I show you?" He only showed her 2 things before that!!

I can just picture the party filming it dying at all the wasted time. This guy needs a sales training class or something.
