I handled a friend's Note II today for the first time... it's a gorgeous piece of a device! Truly beautiful in many ways. Something about it also just felt incredibly powerful, like it was meant for a power-user to do real work but still be able to play on it.

It gives me hope that despite the plastic, the S4 will be just as gorgeous to see, hold and operate. Really can't wait to graduate from the iPhone 5.

This is my impression of the Note II as well. Powerful. Useful for real. I used to be completely allergic to that cheap plastic too, but the sheer versatility of the device was finally enough for me to overcome that dislike. Ok, so it's plastic. But the thing is so damn capable that it's worth it. (And besides I always use a case on my phones so it doesn't change that much.)

Picking my Note II up tomorrow, first non-iPhone in five years :)

Preordered the s4 from unlocked mobiles in the UK for £529.
They reckon it'll be available from the 26th so fingers crossed.
They've already taken my money - good job I put it on an interest free credit card :)

Is Samsung going to do something similar to HTC where they'll sell an unlocked S4 on their website or something?
I believe every company except Verizon it comes Unlocked for everyone. That is what happened for the GS3 anyway. Could be wrong about the Verizon only non-unlocked though.

Coming from the note 2 nothing about this phone makes me want to get it. I think the processor is about the same, it does get a camera upgrade but I heard megapixels isn't a big deal.

I think the software is the main differentiating factor, which include double cameras when taking a picture or video (more of a gimmick) and the language translation (might be handy when travelling). In any case the note will probably get it eventually anyway.

Anyone else that have the note feel the same way? I feel if anything I should wait for the note 3.

But will those carrier specific versions, unlocked though they may be, have bloatware and carrier logos on the device?

Seriously tempted by this device too - really am fed up with iPhones and iOS. I haven't upgraded my iPad because I don't want to throw any more money at Apple until they actually refresh iOS..

Amazon want £580 for an unlocked 16gb which is far too pricey imo. Especially given that iPhone's values have depreciated worse than ever before this year.

I think I'm going to jump on board with an S4 for a year or two, but how I'm going to acquire it yet is another question :)

Unlocked mobiles are selling it for £530 if that's better..

Amazon. There was two listed, a class 6 "mobile" ultra one and a regular ultra one which was class 10. I went with the later seeing as the price was similar.

Cheers

Will be getting the 64GB one too...

Samsung Galaxy S4: 10 exclusive or little-known features review

http://www.phonearena.com/news/Sams...es-review_id41541#10-Safety-Assistance-option

Particularly love point 8.

Point 1 (using gloves with touchscreen) is going to be great for me.

When I ride my bike, I usually have my phone mounted flat on the gas tank. At red lights that are long enough, I would have to take a glove off to maneuver anything. I've tried several gloves that cater to this, but they lack safety and protection from the elements.

I see no need for people with a note 2 to get the s4. The note 2 actually appeals even more because of the spen

I have the Note II and after seeing the release of the S4 and all these other new devices, I can definitely say I don't regret my purchase. Am excited to see what's introduced later this year with the Note III and Nexus.

This is a good point. I'll probably end up keeping both and give one of them to a family member or something.

Hopefully, the S4 impresses :)

note and galaxy are for different types....5 inch screen is the perfect size for me. 5.5 is slightly too big for my liking.

2 questions

1) has AT&T said when the pre-orders would ship after we pre-order on the 16th?

2) was there a price announced on the S View case?

Yup, the Note 2 is a classy looking device, especially in the grey (the white is terribly played out and cheap looking IMO.) Build quality is right up there.

It was exactly the gray one that I handled.

However, I'm warming up to the idea of keeping the One. I'm finding solutions to get around the things I'm not thrilled about (Sense, the weird Home button reconfiguration, the far away power button, etc.) that I think will actually make the experience better.

FYI - the home button is where it is because it doubles as the IR blaster....plus, some of us prefer the home button on top ;)

No problem reaching the top of my N4 (which is roughly the same size as the One - 4.7" display).

That's a preference thing you'd have to overcome - but really not something HTC did "wrong".
