Better combo:

S7 Edge/ iPhone SE or iPhone 7 Plus/Nexus 5X?
[doublepost=1460996364][/doublepost]
Thanks for that

I'm very tempted as having it as a 2nd phone. My iPhone 6s Plus will be my daily driver but wouldn't mind this.

Who else has the S7 edge as their 2nd phone?

I did. I sold it because I feel like the phone is worth $500 at most. It is an amazing device, but there are even cheaper midrangers or flagships that can get the job done as well as or even better than the S7 Edge. It's a gorgeous device too. Best android phone I have ever owned, but it's better to stick to cheaper stuff imo. I am getting another Nexus 5X for $250 so I will stick with that myself.

Yeah, especially as a second phone. If it's not your daily driver, and you just want to try Android, there are definitely more affordable and unlocked options.

I am not trying android per se, but I want something mimicking my iPhone experience while also having similar features to Samsung. The 5X has that with N coming in now.

Late to the party I know but I've been holding out to scoop an S7 for a reasonable price since launch. Couldn't turn down a one-day old SIM free black version for £350.

I've spent plenty of time debating and trying the Edge and Regular version in shops figuring or which I preferred which turned out to be plain Jane S7 (glare/rainbow edges and spurious touches on the Edge put me off).

I'll trial this out alongside the SE until the M10 comes along and I can get a hands-on with that.

$500 USD equivalent for a mint S7 isn't bad at all. Is it totally unlocked? Edge is better by far. I am closing in on a new one for $600 including a VR headset too. Might actually take it since I miss my S7 Edge lol.

Cannot say enough about the battery on my S7 edge. I am getting 6 to 7 hours SOT routinely. I never worry about getting through the day. I don't have to keep an eye on my battery and worry about if I have to get a charge on for it to last the day. It just lasts the whole day no matter what.

Yeah I never worry about getting through the day either. I have thrown some really tough situations at it too. Situations that my old phones would never make it through. All day in a theme park with lots of photo and video taking meant certain death to my other phones and me running around looking for a plug. Not anymore. Came home the other day after such an outing with 55% battery still! Amazing. Pushed it again this weekend with being out all day and evening taking many flash photos. Got home with 35% battery life, but that was starting my day at 85, not 100 so still really good! Ironically got a portable charger for free with purchase of the phone and never need it. I don't even charge my phone in the car while streaming music anymore. It's that good.

$600 for a new S7 Edge good? Gold 32gb model too. How about vs $250 for Nexus 5X?

That's a fair price, I think, but you have to really ask yourself if you want/need the advantages that the S7 Edge offers over the 5X. For my uses, I think it's worth it. The better screen, camera, affordable storage expansion, wireless charging, waterproofing, and useful software features that stock Android is still missing is all worth it in my opinion. But are those goodies worth more than double the price for you?

And how do you feel about software updates/support? Because while Samsung is improving on that front, they're nowhere close to the support you'll get with the 5X which gets direct updates from Google (for better or worse! Some view Nexus devices as "beta users" for Google's latest software. I don't fully agree with that, but it's something to consider).

I'll think about it, but from what they told me on their eBay site, it's without a quick charger and the device is for sprint, meaning it has their bloatware on it. I rather get the Edge too. Tough decision on my part.

Is that the S7 or S7 Edge. It's unclear in the description.

Regular. I thought you have an Edge though?

I rather have all the bells and whistles, but at the end of the day, I am walking away with $150 in savings from the S7 Edge. If I go with the 5X, that's $500ish. Now, there is a S7 for $500 usd.

The 5X is more future proof to say the least with more software updates and USB Type C, but Samsung blows it out of the water in terms of practical usage. That makes me think if I should sell my iPhone 6S Plus now and maybe take a SE to save a little $.

Yep it's factory unlocked in perfect condition. General resale is more than that so I won't lose out even if I sell I don't keep it.

I can see why the Edge is popular but I'm a fan of smaller screens for phones (I know the Edge is only marginally narrower) and prefer the flat screen. I've an iPP that goes with me so tend to use that whenever I'm reading/browsing for longer durations which in turn means I can have a smaller phone battery. Kind of a little and large approach which is working well but it's not for everyone.

Go for the VR - again not for everyone but techies on boards like this will probably find it fun. And it's not that expensive if you've a compatible Galaxy phone anyway.

Wonder if this will make it into the Note 6: http://www.phonearena.com/news/Sams...7-sensor-and-f1.4-lens-Rumor-says-yes_id80338

Samsung working on a 18-24MP camera with large 1/1.7" sensor and f/1.4 lens? Rumor says "yes"

Or is it more for the S8?

I very much doubt it. That would make the sensor over twice as big. There's no way that's going to fit within the thickness of the S7 without a huge bump. Plus, if you're going to have a sensor that big, why would you put unnecessary pixels in Why not keep the 12MP and have huge pixels.
And ƒ/1.4 aperture? Out of focus subjects would look awful.

I do, but I have an extra S7 Edge I got with bogo, but I won't get that credit for another couple of months. The rep told me to hold on to it incase something happens, that way I would have more options in trying to get it credited back. So, I'm just keeping an eye on resale value. Hoping to bundle it with a gear vr and get the unlock code so I can hopefully get $600 for it, then I'm only out $200 for the S7 I'm using now as my daily driver.

Smart planning then. The BOGO promotion would've been great for me. Sucks how these "promotions" become such a pain in the ass to redeem that people give up on them.

Got a new update on my S7e but still out of the country and wifi is desperate here - so will have to wait till I'm home.
Man, you guys get way more updates overseas than we do. Only had one update and not really expecting another one until fall, or next year even.

Really seems to be intended!

That is slick!

I still don't understand why Samsung stuck with the Snapdragon when the Exynos blows every Android processor away? Canada got the Exynos yet the US and China have Snapdragons...
