You missed a salient point. They(Samsung) are doing that because they screwed up, not out of any largesse on their part. So it turns out CR was right after all.
CR was right and Samsung admitted the production issue. Still they will replace phones due to water damage. Apple will not replace water damaged phones for no reason. It is the first thing they check when an iphone is brought in for service. If the water sensor has changed color then they can refuse service.

Yes, we agree on there is a manufacturing defect that Samsung is fixing/has fixed. Samsung will not replace a water damaged phone either that was not due to manufacturing defect. If you take your water resistant S7 into the pool and it leaks....oops, it's on you (unless you pay extra for the extended warranty).

Apple has always had a consistent stance on the water sensors, so it puzzles me why you are even bring this up. The two companies have exactly the same policy, and if you buy AC+, you can get a water damaged phone replaced.

It puzzles me why you say Samsung won't replace a water damaged phone they advertise as being water damaged?
I have taken my S7 edge into the pool to shot pics and videos and have never had a problem. I don't expect to have the same results with my 6s+....would you?

This link might explain it better.

http://www.samsung.com/us/common/protectionplusterms.html

You can opt to pay $99 for extended protection on your Samsung devices, which covers water damage.

https://www.gottabemobile.com/2016/03/28/galaxy-s7-edge-warranty-what-you-need-to-know/

So if your water "resistant" device springs a leak and you don't have Samsung Protection plus, the phone is on you. Why would pay extra to cover water damage? Is samsung dubious of it's own manufacturing processes?

I wouldn't take my phone into the water any more than I would crash test the bumpers of my car, but we are all different as to what we are willing to do.

But there are people in this thread and on MR that routinely use their S7/Edge in water all the time with no adverse effects.
I do it all the time around the pool and out and about while hiking or fishing....my S7 edge gets wet or submerged in water. It's still running as new. I would have problem getting a replacement by taking my phone to a TMO store.

Then the car analogy is a strawman.....no one is talking about a car or it's bumper here. No one has made any claims about a car. The topic is phones.

Seems like we did this exact conversation a week ago, so to avoid getting the thread locked due to bickering, I'm out of this particular train of thought. One salient point for me is Samsung will not replace water damaged phones, those phones that were manufactured with a defect excluded. The other salient point is that manufacturers routinely state the limits of their products, eg bumpers for cars, and people don't go around routinely testing out those limits, ie crash testing them, to see if the claims hold up or even testing them to see what the limits might be. That last point is for youtube videos.

still more strawman and car analogies that are off topic......water resistance is an advertised feature for the S7/edge. So people routinely use that feature and rely on it. I know I do.....i have posted a YT video to backup my claim of water resistance for my S7 edge.

I agree. Which is why Sansung focuses many of it's commercials around the S7's water resistance. So it's not meant as just a safe guard only.

it's a feature that i use as well. Sometimes listen to podcasts with my phone in the shower and i would have no problem when i go on hoilday taking it to the pool and get some pics.
Slightly off topic but I was just curious as to how your S7 edge plays with your macbook?

The last time I had an android device I had a windows laptop and getting content on was really easy.

It's just **** customer service. I don't know how Samsung expects to be more successful than Apple with that sort of indifference towards their customers.

Works fine, I don't use my macbook loads but i can use both without any issue. I like switching from different OS in fairness.

Just because you have something doesn't mean you should use it, especially water resistance. Knowing Samsung's stance on it, people should use it as a safeguard rather than a common feature. HTC has uh-oh, but their phones are overpriced and offer very less value than competitors. The iPhone 6S might have some "splash proof" coating or some gimmick like that, but I wouldn't even run the phone under a faucet.

That Lil Wayne Champagne commercial is just a marketing ploy. If you truly want Samsung to replace defective water resistant devices, the S7 Active can be replaced because of a design defect. At some point, Samsung could get sued for having enough design defective S7s and S7Es if they habitually refuse to swap phones out when people used the resistance in good faith and it's big enough on a scale. However, the T&Cs prohibit spills.

So given what we expect to get with the Note 7, i've decided to finally trade in my S7 Edge, however I'm actually just going to trade it in for a standard S7 (in white pearl).

I think the standard S7 will address my issues with the S7 edge and I can get a white version now (something that wasn't available on launch here).

Yeah, I'm thinking the same. Depending on pricing and what's actually announced I might just keep my Note 5 and get either the flat S7 or S7 Active. Too bad AT&T doesn't carry the HTC 10 or the Moto Z as those would've been options too.

Just ordered a Black S7 regular on T-Mobile brand new for $500. Going to sell my iPhone soon. I rather have a more accessory friendly device for another year or so. I am out on the Note 7 since it's too pricey. My hopes were dashed when I couldn't get a warranty, proper LTE coverage, or VoLTE with T-Mobile using an Exynos processor device. In addition, no Samsung Pay promotions, so I had to either pony up $670 for the fully unlocked Snapdragon device or settle for cheaper locked device with disabling bloat as it comes. I chose the cheaper alternatives to get to the S7 regular. Here goes.

You and me both, except I am getting Black. I would've been all over White or Silver if my carrier offered them. My problem with the Edge was lack of accessories. The typing issues were secondary issues, but a close secondary issue. I can deal with erratic typing from time to time, but an exposed phone with a bad screen protector? Yikes.

As long as it has the proper upgrades to protect the screen from water exposure, sure lol.

Well, you have to look at people in general. People buy gimmicks. I see Lil Wayne pouring Champagne on a S7. But I am not going to do that. That's a completely idiotic idea imo. I wouldn't waste a good alcoholic beverage on a point in real life. I just use water resistance as a safety net. Using my phone in the rain, if I dropped it in the puddle, etc. I never use my phone on the toilet, so I have zero concerns about mine falling into a toilet bowl.

That's true. But there was a commercial of taking pictures under water in a pool. That's definitely something people would view as a feature or soon to be new standard, as they would do that.

Can't legislate stupidity out of the population, so companies do the bare essentials to cover their liabilities. T&Cs, fine print, etc. It comes down to who buys the product. You and I might not take our phones in the pool in the deep end for an hr, but others might. Samsung might have more problems on their hands if enough people want warranty coverage. I think if you offer water resistance, there should be someway to distinguish between good faith usage vs negligence and/or recklessness. Maybe advanced strips to expose common compounds or elements from different situations? Like they can tell if there was something jet powered? Sounds idealistic, but if Samsung can do that and offer warranty services to good faith attempts, then we can enjoy our products more.

Yes it is. If you go into settings in the camera app you can set the default storage to the SD card.

I use player pro on android but there are probably other apps that others prefer too.
