Is it even possible to have iPhone swipe gestures (via Google Play Store?) on the Samsung S7?
Cause I really, really don't like the capacitive buttons on the S7.

This is the only thing thats keeping me away from the S7. Used the S7 for one day from a friend, couldnt get used to those capacitive buttons....

I don't mind capacitive buttons, but I also think that the swipe gestures are better.

Very weird that Samsung isn't pushing out the monthly security updates to the unlocked S7. Perhaps I won't wait for the unlocked S8 then, especially considering Samsung & Tmobile are doing a great job with updates so far and the bloatware is minimal and easily disabled with Package Disabler Pro.

Anyway, get it together, Samsung.

The first has to do with the recently released US unlocked Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge models. These phones arrived at the end of June and were billed as phones that bring the Galaxy experience to more people because they aren’t tied to a single carrier. And they do that! I’ve been using one since the day they arrived and continue to go back to it because this is the best phone of 2016 in my opinion. You know what they don’t do? Receive software updates. While carrier models across the US are seeing monthly security patches from Samsung, the phones that don’t have any carrier interference are still sitting on May’s security patch. That’s right, my unlocked S7 is still only on May’s patch, which means it’s vulnerable to anything that was patched by Google in June, July, and August.

That is an epic fail on Samsung's part!

Yeah it doesn't make sense to me either. Can't blame the carriers on that one.

This has been one of the things I've mentioned many times before, that folks frequently blame carriers, yet i always either buy unbranded or end up flashing unbranded firmware (thankfully samsung's odin makes that easy) yet software updates are still very random and i've often seen carrier versions recieve updates whilst my unbranded samsung handset lingers in update limbo for months. It's frustrating.

This is something Samsung should not get away with. If they're going to be the top dog in the smartphone world, they have to realize that that includes providing proper updates to your own unlocked devices.

They shouldn't get away with it, but seemingly do simply because folks have grown to accept slow android updates in general. It just frustrates me when folks automatically blame carriers for this issue, when clearly thats not the issue here.

It's one area where Apple are still very much way ahead of any other company.

It just doesn't add up. Samsung has to push the update to the carriers, so why not include your own unlocked devices? You already have the updates ready.

PS. I'm speaking specifically about the monthly security updates.

Yeah i know. Its just annoying quirk of android unfortunetly. HTC / Sony / Moto etc.. are just as guilty.

I saw this post on another site I frequent in an Android thread, if true this is badass

"Had an eventful week with my S7 Edge.

I was tubing down a river last Friday and dropped my phone at the very end (the deepest part of the river with the strongest current, unfortunately). We dove for it but weren't able to find it and I didn't have any signal where the river was so I couldn't call or use Find My Phone, so the next day I filed a lost phone claim and got a new one shipped out to me. Thought I had lost all my pictures, my 64gb SD card, and my 10 day old Spigen case. with it.

Two days later I get an email from people who were diving in the river who had found my phone, charged it, and it was still working (thankfully I put my email address on the lock screen)! It had a tiny scratch on the screen and the speaker was garbled at 50%+ volume, so I decided to keep the new replacement phone.

Day after that, I read online that a garbled speaker in a waterproof Samsung phone is somewhat common and only a temporary problem, so I put it in a bag of rice for a full day and now it's working perfectly! Just a small scratch on the screen after being 8-10 feet deep in a rocky river for nearly 2 days is pretty impressive."

Just found out that my S6 screen has some burn-in!! This is my second Samsung device with this problem after the S3 also. Had a Note 4 but only for 3 months, so no time for the burn-in to show up. Very very disappointed. My S6 is not even one year old!! This is one of the reasons I don't like AMOLED panels.

After seeing this for the second time and only 9 months after ownership I think I'm done. Next phone must have IPS.

You should be able to get that swapped under warrantee. If you can, you should try going through your carrier. Once you get the replacement, if you don't want to stay with samsung, sell it since it'll be like new and get something else. But it's going to be harder to avoid amoled in the future, I think your only choices will be Sony, LG, and Apple, though Apple is rumored to be switching to amoled next year.

You know, the regular sized S7 is probably the best sized phone I've used. The foot print is small enough to use one handed and the screen is big enough that it doesn't "feel" small. While I prefer a larger screen and can't wait for my Note to arrive, I've really enjoyed using the smaller S7, glad I'm keeping it as a change of pace.

Though I do miss the battery life I of the S7 Edge I had before.

Do they really exchange the phone due to the burn-in? Mmmm that would be awesome. Didn't know that.

Imagine the size of an s8 that's 5.2" with the refined edge screen... think about how small and ergonomic that might feel in the hand.

Yeah, a mini Note could be really comfortable. I still stand by the original Moto X being the most comfortable device I've used, but something like that with premium materials could give it a run for it money.

Ugh, I don't want to have to buy the S8 next year too.

I'm looking forward to it. Especially given how the iPhone and Nexus devices are shaping up.
