Here are my latest test results. Thoughts?
Here are a few things for you to check in Settings:

1) Under the Privacy & Safety heading, check that the option to "Send Diagnostic Info" is switched off.

2) Under Google, press the upper right corner overflow menu,
Screenshot_20160826-114212.png

Screenshot_20160826-114217.png

Ensure that this option is switched off.

3) Ensure that Google Location History is also switched to off, this can be found under your location settings.

4) Check the "optimize apps" for battery life under the battery life tab, try turning it on and off and compare the drain you experience. Some have reported reduced drain with the feature turned off.

5) Try turning off Google Back Up under the Back Up tab in Settings.

6) Clear the device cache using the recovery. With the Device Off, press the Home Button, Power Button and Volume Up simulatenously to access recovery.

If the above do not provide any noticeable results, I would suggest doing a factory reset and reinstalling apps slowly from the beginning. Although the July software build is inherently flawed and great battery life is not to be expected. I noticed a reduction in Android System drain after doing a factory reset but it always depends. After enough testing I can confidently say that the Android system drain is 100% associated with these botched software builds as my S7E was optimized for my usage perfectly from the get go and the only changes were these updates which resulted in the horrific battery drain.

Guess where I am ?

Your "app usage" seems very high. Can you take a screenshot inside the app usage section?

Oh, I can't now because my phone went back on the charger. I can post another today.

Will try all that, thanks. I am about to give up after a factory reset if the issue persists because I need that new update asap. My carrier has zero info about it.

No contest there. The iPhone 7 might have a better single core score, but it won't offer many features. If the 7 is surprisingly good, it makes a different conversation for me say in November. But for as of now? I foresee myself sticking with the S7 until Summer 2017 to get the S8!

The iPhone 7 Plus dual camera system is quite interesting to me as I can think of a couple ways Apple could make it a truly impressive system. I've also come to appreciate the image processing Apple employs in the iPhone after witnessing the downgrade in image processing Samsung employed on the S7.

Beyond that, I don't think the iPhone 7 will offer anything else that will sway me from the S7E. The design and screen will still be inferior to the S7E and I don't really see myself being tempted by the iPhone until a major hardware re-design.

I am not too big on dual camera set ups. There haven't been many that have earth shattering DxO Mark scores anyways.

Tried good lock. It is certainly a step down from the note 7 software IMO. It was great for S7 since it gave you lock screen notifications, but I much prefer the standard software.

Great groupie you've got there ;). I'm afraid I don't recognise the house though. I know, it's shocking knowledge on my part.

Just another question, you said you ordered the Note 7, and I was wondering if you still prefer using the smaller phones, because I remember you saying that you were very happy with the S7. In other words, do you prefer the S7 or the Note 7?

It's from a 90's classic TV series called Fr. Ted.

I'm on the right side of that pic.

Re; size. I'm not sure how I'll adapt to going bigger again for the Note 7 or if I'll enjoy it. I really like the S7 size and it feels more than big enough for me tbh. I think I got swept up n the Note 7 launch craze more than anything else. I'll still get the N7 but I'll see if I enjoy using it - it won't be a daily driver for me though regardless. It's actually not out here yet so I haven't received it to tell.

Oh ok, I always pictured you looking like Fry, because of your avatar. It never occurred to me that you weren't a cartoon ;). And the show looks great, I'll give it a look.

Today I really put my S7 Edge to work and the battery held up decently given the usage. It was used on 100% LTE the whole day and in the sunny weather where the brightness was near max the whole day.

Some things I did,
- Over 1 hour long Skype Video call
- General Browsing/Reddit/Tapatalk
- Took 200 pictures, majority in raw.
- Recorded 1080p 60fps video for an hour.

I am also still battling the erratic drain from the latest update but even with that the battery held up extremely well today.

I am actually really loving the S7. The Note 7 issues may have done me a favour. I have a solid device, great battery, camera and no issues with screen protectors or cases.

I think I will just hold onto my S7 at least until the S8.

Love the phone, hate the software support when there is a battery draining bug. I am considering the iPhone 7 Plus if it's going to be ground breaking. If not, I'll be patient with the software update process with this phone.

I was considering the S7 as a possible upgrade for my S6, but that may have changed.

I went last Friday to the store where I bought my S6 to send it to repair for burn-in issues in the screen and they repair guy there told me burn-in is not covered by warranty with Samsung devices. They would only change the screen in my phone if it had at least 3 dead pixels.

So considering this is my second Samsung phone with burn-in and that Samsung doesn't cover this in their warranty I'm a little turned off to buy another AMOLED phone.

Write a BBB Samsung complaint if you're in the US. They claim to have the best displays on the market. If the phone suffers burn in during the first year of ownership, then need to fix it. I had screen ghosting issues on the Nexus 7 and had to fight tooth and nail to get a replacement unit back in 2012.

I just got my S7 yesterday and battery seems stellar. But I refused the AT&T update when it popped up. Should I install it or will I get this batter drain problem some of your are talking about? I think I did install all the Samsung software updates. It was all a bit of trouble to keep track of. Bit I know I refused the carrier update. I'm in the USA.

Is it normal for the S7 to get hot when using the phone to display videos and pictures from the camera gallery on to a Samsung tv?

It also ran hot yesterday during most of setting up and while that seems normal on an iPhone, my Note7 never got warm when I was setting it up. But I probably did that more intensely on the S7 since I was recreating my Note7 setup as much as possible and not starting completely from scratch.

The mail app seemed a bit buggy but I think it acted up on my Note 7, too, then settled down.

I have intermittent battery drain. It comes from two sources: Android System and Mediascanner. I wanted to disable Mediascanner but I can't find the app. So I restart the phone daily, that helps. Still, I end up with 2.5 hours SOT because the rest of the battery just gets eaten. :/ And yes, it gets hot when Mediascanner gets stuck. I have almost no media on the phone, other than Spotify – I have about 30 photos and that's all, most of those photos were taken with the S7 too.

Other than that – and I expect software updates to fix it – it's fantastic. Camera is finally fast – Sony promised me wonders and delivered a pile of steamy brown stuff. Samsung's camera does start in a second. The battery life without Mediascanner and AS is great. It's distinctly 4/5, same as Fit 2. Almost perfect but not quite.

Have you done a wipe cache partition in recovery ?

I don't have those issues with mine but I assume you have the 820 version. I get 5-6 SOT and a good day and a half on battery with that.
