I broke the display on one of my two S7 Edge phones so I bought an unlocked Edge at BestBuy while they were on sale last night. I'll probably get the broken display fixed if I can do it locally for less then $200 otherwise I'll just toss it in a drawer and be done with it. The broken one was running the Nougat beta.

S8 Edge isn't out. I suspect you mean S7.

I just got a quote of $350-$370 to fix the broken screen on my S7 Edge. Glad I just went and bought a new unlocked one. The one with the broken display is still usable, the glass is broken mainly at the bottom left corner so I'll just keep it around in case I need something off of it.

Wowser, That's a ridiculous price for a repair ... sadly it's looking like Samsung are only going to be offering edge models now on which means either more expensive repairs or hopefully component price may fall (best case scenario) ...

A second local shop quoted me $350 for the repair. It's just not worth that price to me.

My repair was 359€, but fortunately I had an insurance, so I had to pay "only" a 150€ deductible while the insurance took care of the rest. If I didn't have that insurance, I think would've just kept using it with the damaged screen as the crack was in the corner and not in the main screen area. For 150€ it was still worth it to return the phone to being waterproof (official repair shop and everything), but had it been just a few Euros short of a OnePlus device, I think I would've skipped the repair.

Oh goodness no! I love my Edge but I had a horrible accident with my brand new unlocked S7 (Christmas present) when it popped out of the VR headset and went crashing to the hardwood floor. I was expecting shattered glass but it was perfectly fine despite not having a case or screen protector.

Our pool guy, on the other hand, showed me his S7 Edge with its smashed corner that he says happened when it slid to the ground from a meager foot or so when he was squatting down and it slid out of his pocket. Same thing happened to our AT&T sales rep and his Edge.

Edge is beautiful but flat is where it's at for me after that experience. At least for the non Note phones. I can understand why they would continue edge screens on the Note series.

I don't think I ever posted a picture of my broken S7 Edge. Again, this happened on Christmas Eve walking up some very steep steps that I am sure, have caused many people pain from falling on them or other accidents. I had a case on the phone as well.

I'm still using it at home without a sim because this phone is running the Nougat beta and the phone is still usable. I just won't take it with me anywhere. I love this phone so much, I had to buy another one to replace it.

I've dropped my S7 Edge many times, but never an issue. I've had a case on it though that has done well.

Mine was almost similarly broken at the other bottom corner. It was the first drop and I had a Samsung Clear Case on it with raised corners, but still it broke at the first drop. Now that I've got it repaired, I've switched to a more heavy-duty case (Otterbox Strada). But so far the rounded edge hasn't really had any meaningful benefits to my use while it has caused lots of false touches and made spare parts insanely expensive. I wish they would still offer also flat displays in the future.

So it would be an understatement to say the camera on S7/S7 Edge blew me away.

Just came back from my family's annual holiday in Cape Town, did a lot of wine tasting and exploring of smaller towns like Fish Hoek, Simmons Town, and Hout Bay, as well as eating out at Camps Bay and Clifton, while we were staying at Sea Point.

I am looking at some of the pics taken on my S7 Edge and little brothers S7, and I am simply amazed, especially considering the little effort we gave to take many of these pics.

Great job by Samsung on this Camera. It's been a long time since I was so impressed with a phone camera, before this I think the Nokia N8 and 808 PureView were what had me well and truly had me gobsmacked. While I've been happy with cameras in my S4 and Note 4, I was never really like "WOW".

The edge screen makes the repair very expensive. You made the right call to get a brand new phone instead.

I would sell the old one to recoup some cost though, sell it on the cheap.

The cameras are beautiful. I have a bunch of phones and I still find the S7 shooter to be the best. Plus with the sd card it's so damn easy to expand storage or load pics to your computer.

My only criticism of the S7/7e camera is the general over sharpening - post processing that Samsung implements.

Whilst viewing back on a small screen or even printed on 4x6" or 5x7" photos it doesn't look too noticeable, its when viewed on something like a 40+" 4K TV against similar specced cameras & camera phones that do not implement the post processing sharpening and in those instances the S7/7e's sharpening actually detracts from the image quality quite considerably.

Samsung are clearly tailoring the photos post-processing so it looks best when viewed back on your mobile device, as without sharpening images can look soft and some may confuse that with 'blur', but the softness is actually the natural photo, and so when viewed up close and on a larger surface (big TV/monitor or blown up prints) imho looks better and more visually appealing.

I hope with the S8 Samsung refine or at least allow us to customise how much post processing sharpness is applied.

I do agree with this, I've noticed that when zooming in a bit and even when pixel peeping (I am guilty of doing it), I do notice that there is a bit of oversharpening done, even when editing the photos, it becomes obvious.

They are doing it for Instagram users IMO, my pics look spectacular on there, even with filters, it's the 1st phone where I put a pic on Instagram and I am truly impressed at the result.

I found Instagram to be rather biased to iPhone, a looking retention of high quailty when uploading and it seems Samsung found away to get around the lower quality in Android. That's just speculation from my side though.

I bought mine for a bargain price BECAUSE it had a crack in it :)

It looks like JackieInCo's one except the crack is around the home button/fingerprint sensor. There is a slight crack in the corner of the screen.

Anyway I applied a good screen protector to it, and on top have put one of those Dbrand type skins. You can barely tell anything is wrong now.

Haha! You legend!

Very nice. As long as that crack doesn't give you any trouble you are sorted :)

Supposedly, the Note 7 toned down the sharpening that Samsung used in the S7 and S7 Edge. Some thought this was because of the changes made with Grace UI. I haven't heard otherwise, but I hope they tone it down once Nougat drops.

Yeah it's bizarre... Absolutely no problems, the fingerprint sensor works perfectly, everything. I got lucky!

You know, this could be misunderstood.

I bought four glass protectors for S7 so far. One was amazing but so thick I couldn't type through it. One broke when I dropped the phone on the carpet. One broke IN MY POCKET. One is nowhere near the size of the phone and I don't know what they were thinking but maybe AliExpress isn't so awesome after all. So I bought foil instead. From Amazon. From seller with very good feedback. And you know what? Either I managed to scratch the foil somehow or THE BLOODY SCREEN HAS A VERY THIN CRACK.

I swear Samsung recognise my name by now and send me special models, and when I say special I don't mean in a good way.

For those who have the unlocked US version, the December security patch is rolling out as of today. I got it early this morning. My T-Mobile edge is on November.
