A lot of catching up to do is an understatement. The S6's camera is already better than the 6s's, and knowing Apple, they will only slightly improve it in the iPhone 7, since it's not an "S" release.

They really should have had the 6s's camera in the 6, then improve the low-light capabilities in the 6s. It's a shame they don't do meaningful yearly improvements.
Never gonna happen, Apple's devoted user base has made sure of it. When your user base is so devoted that it'll buy anything from you, you got no reason to really try anymore.

I mostly agree, except for the last part. Sort of.

The last part just makes Apple sound lazy. Like they don't care. I think it's more calculated than that. I think Apple knows how to milk their brand and fanbase. They surely know what they can do to improve the iPhone significantly, they just choose very deliberately not to. Why? Because they know they can get away with record breaking sales without necessarily competing neck to neck with the competition.

They call it being focused and getting it right first so that it just works. And people buy that image probably because it was once true.

Apple knows this. And knows how to use this to their advantage.

So we're mostly saying the same thing but I think it's important to know they're doing so very intentionally.

Maybe then people will finally see why it's utterly important to call Apple out for its shortcomings, especially at a time when people think they can do no wrong. It isn't true, and pretending it is will not help Apple in the long run.

Back to s7...

Here we go again with the usual Samsung vs Apple trash talk.

At the end of the day my S6 Edge Plus is hardly any different to my old android phones such as the Sony Z2. There is no catching up to do required because there is effectively nothing to catch. People who buy Apple do so because they want a NICE PRODUCT (90% of the affluent population) . People who buy a Samsung do so because they are poor (third world countries) or just want a phone (geeks here). Also as usual there is nothing in spec terms that makes the S7 realistically that much better than the Sony Z2 let alone an iPhone 6 which to me is why hardware design is everything and why the S7 miserably fails.

One thing is for certain. Paying full price for a Samsung is a mugs game. My S6 egde plus cost me £401 shortly after release. I think Samsung (stupidly) was asking for over £800 initially on their own website on release date. They soon dropped this to the current £650 ish price they are now asking (although I would be looking yo pay around £300 now) after realising that people aren't as dumb as their management team.

Forget dropped value, I always wait anyway, because of the reviews. I always want to know what I should watch out for when I'm getting a phone, maybe even to the point where I end up getting a different one.
But I'm not going to get the S7. I'm perfectly content with my S6 Edge+, aside from the long wait for Marshmallow.

Seemingly most of the so called calling out is by people on forums, which represent a fraction of the buying public.

It's not that Apple cannot do no wrong it's that most customers are satisfied with the iPhone so why change? To most outside these forums they want a nice stable experience that's overall reliable. It's a streamlined experience, nice hardware, top notch support, and because it's so popular it's easy to utilize the ecosystem services like iMessage FaceTime iCloud etc. lots of people here get so hung up on paper specs when that's only a part of it. Apple is smart. They offer nice products with timely updates, no interference from either carriers or other oems, and post sale support is imo tops in the industry. Yeah they're intentionally providing good products with good services and support. And it's been working.

Fwiw the s7 looks to be a nice upgrade. Beefier specs hopefully will mean a better user experience for tw. I'm sure the camera will be really good too. Also interested in lg as well.

I really should wait till it drops because last year I was severely stung by the S6 Edge at €949 launch price, it then dropped officially to €849 after a few weeks and when it came to resale - in the end after only 12 weeks I got €400 !!!! Zinger .......

The money I lost on the S6 Edge was equivalent to the Moto X Style as a whole !!!!

So yeah as much as temptation washes over me ... I am going to try (emphasise try) and wait at least 2 - 3 months before I get one ....

Screen to body two looks really good. That top bezel looks smaller than the bottom in this new leak.

I'm waiting.

I don't plan to be an early adopter. I'm very happy with my s6. The ram issue doesn't affect my usage. Battery isn't a problem cause I have a wireless charger at work (I leave work sometimes with 100% battery!). And once it gets marshmallow it should be even better.

However, if the s7 does turn out to be the s6 perfected, I may pick it up down the line when the price drops happen.
[doublepost=1455888600][/doublepost]I'm starting to wish they made a regular s7 edge. :T

Or maybe they should've gone all out and made both devices edge devices.

A Spanish Bank has now released a Samsung Pay promotional poster. Maybe there will be Synaptics force touch after all.
Also, Sammobile says that an import listing "... suggests that the 12MP shooter will feature a whopping 1/2.5-inch sensor with an individual pixel size of at least 1.4-microns, which is bigger than the standard 1.12-microns pixel size that most mobile phones with an 8-megapixel camera pack."

I'm thinking that Samsung are leaking these photos on purpose.

I thought the rumours said that it was going to be a 1/2" sensor. 1/2.5" isn't much of an improvement over the current 1/2.6", and still not on par with the 1/2.3" that a lot of phones are getting nowadays.
On the other hand, a 1/2" sensor with the rumoured shaved camera hump would be an impressive feat. It would be amazing if they did that.

Agreed. I think most of these "leaks" are planned to get media attention and us geeks talking about their products before announcements.

Yep, controlled leakage to get it front page on tech sites for a week all part of the game.

I'm in for the standard S7 in black or whatever colour it is. Hyped about the camera taking things on again from the S6/Note 5 spec.

Just try to use a credit card w/ price protection (60 days or more) if you can. My card protects me for 60 days, so once T-Mobile drops the price by $100 after a month, I am prepared. I am expecting free yr of Netflix + VR Headset to boot. So excited.

I have TMO too. Have you tried the Jump program? It $10 a month but you have 3 "jumps" to another phone in a calendar year. So i plan to use a jump to the S7 Edge and it won't cost me anything out of my pocket.

Samsung seems to be in revision mode. The S6/S6 Edge = Premium body, disappointing battery life, no SD slot, no water resistance, no removal battery, poor RAM management.

S7/S7 Edge = Premium Body, SD Slot, Water Resistance, no removal battery ( I can live with that), 12 MP camera (probably to get better low light), pressure sensitive display, and Snapdragon processor. The processor choice is better for mass consumers because of the developer potential. Exynos is harder to dev for. The software remains to be seen. We will see between Feb 21st and March 11th. I will be going to Best Buy to play with the S7 Edge. Battery life should improve too, but depends on the software too. In theory, more capacity means longer life.

Yeah, I had Jump on my GS5 years ago. Haven't signed up for it. My dad has it with the 6S Plus, but JOD instead. I am planning to keep my 6S Plus for now, but I might get rid of it entirely and downgrade to a cheaper iPhone tbh. Just so I can get my fill of iMessage and buy into the ecosystem since I have a MBP.

Do you ever think that we'll see a phone where leaks are 100% controlled? In other words, when a phone is announced, everything that they announce is new to us?

Very few leaks are leaks ....

I bet the HTC M10 leak was a controlled leak too. The timing is too perfect. On the eve of Samsung and LG's big reveal, we see an M10 leak? What a coincidence.

Too bad the leak is decreasing the hype. For me anyway.

It'd be a fun sleight of hand, but I think it isn't very cost effective.

Controlled leaks of real details will go a longer way than controlled leaks of fake details to surprise the world with the actual details come announcement day.

But who knows.
