Many people will buy these phones on a payment plan, and will only look at the galaxys and iPhones; so in that regard the prices won't hamper them as much. I wish it would, and the prices would be forced down...but I don't see that happening soon.
The 6p a great phone, and the price is a huge plus. Bit outside of Google fi, the Nexus is not available on a payment plan. That makes it too expensive for some. There nexus still remain a niche device until it's broadly available in brick and motor stores.
As of today I still consider the Nexus 6P to be the best Android phone released to market. But I also own a Nexus 6 and the software experience is the same.
Now I also own a iPhone 6S which is the quickest device I've used in a very portable package but it's not flashy. With the Samsung S7 Edge I like it a lot because it's different and adds useful features to Android. I have only two gripes; they took away the Ir blaster and slow software updates. But because I upgrade twice a year almost the software doesn't bother like it us too.
