Gotta be in it to win it
I've said it over and over, people shouldn't think moving to a completely different platform after being on a completely closed experience for years, can be done in a few months. I also believe some that say they "tried," are lying all together, and never even bought a S8/S8+ or a Note 8. I'll even go one step further. I'm in the camp that the Note 8 truly doesn't have a competitor. It actually disgusts me that reviewers even compare something like an iPhone 8 to it. What an absolute insult.
If I don’t want google as your cloud provider what are the options?

Seems to be a lot of note 8 returns in the forum.
How long did you keep it for?

Good luck with the pixel xl 2

Yeah I noticed. A week and a half, another thing was when I remembered that a rooted note 8 with snapdragon models had reduced battery capacity. That was another deal breaker. Also while I loved the screen I hated it too...its so big lol but beautiful. I still miss my note 8.

Also thankyou

How to unlock the note 8 if your phone is in your car mount holder ?

Finger to Reach behind the big phone to unlock ?

Get your eyes closer to scan and unlock ? If you wear glasses and somehow the glasses reflected the light, can the iris scanner workable ? (I never try iris scanner or face recognition)

Or just use 6 digit pin to unlock ...

How is it convenience ?

With homebutton fps, i just simply touch lightly on the home button

Not sure ... but in my case I unlock it when I connect it to the cable and its never asked me to unlock it again so not seeing the problem. The reality is if you want minimal bezels on your phone then you can't have the FPS on the front yet. There are pros and cons to everything. I don't see the problem with the car situation.

Connect to cable and never asked to unlock ? Do u mean the phone will stay unlock while charging ?

Sure there will be pros and cons, with today trend, it seems there will be more phone without fps / front homebutton, and with my current user behaviour, i’m curious how to adjust to this trend. I can imagine it will not be easy to use (again, i never try, just curious with you guys experiences)

For example, i put my phone on car holder, the screen always facing front (not direct to my driver space), i usually just put my finger to unlock, and glance the phone with my eyes

Or, i’m working on my desk, phone on my table, usually i would unlock with fps, and use calculator or others app without my face or eyes directly in front of my phone

My Note 8 stays unlocked while I'm in the car. Same was the case for iPhone if I recall. I'm using Android Auto / CarPlay... maybe that's the difference. Its a bit of a distraction trying to use a phone without one of those in the car.

At my desk, when in the wireless charger I can hit the back sensor without moving it. Or sometimes it uses face. I haven't spent a lot of time fiddling with face to really understand it well as I prefer fingerprint.

Oh, i don’t have android auto or carplay, i just connect to my headunit using bluetooth for the speaker. If in trafic or red light, i usually like to quick change from applemusic to map and vice versa (without facing directly to my phone screen)

At desk, then the only option is to face your phone screen, or pick up ur phone for fps, or use manual pin.

All you have to do is set up smart lock to keep your phone unlocked when it's connected to your car's Bluetooth. Convenience.

I replaced my head unit and love the "convenience" with iOS or Android to be able to safely use my phone.

Indeed. So many options.

I bounce between Samsung Cloud, MS OneDrive and Google Drive, all come standard in the Note8 anyway, so why not just give them all a go. I did the same on S7 Edge.

You know what I found unique.
You can delete your Samsung cloud account altogether but iCloud you can’t.

My son gave up on his S8 in less than a week.

He didn't really try if he gave up that quick... but who cares if he got something he liked. My first attempt I "tried" for 6 months to make it work and hated it.

I know without a doubt that I won't like the iPhone so I don't buy them but I also don't hold that against them either. What seems to be getting lost in this thread is whatever the phone version of PEBKAC the phone is fine.

I'll start off by saying, you're gonna have to start "thinking differently" because you won't have a home button on the front much longer, heh.

On others devices you can use trusted devices or locations to remove the lock all together. From there you can use trusted voice to interact with the phone since we shouldn't be using our phones while driving anyway, amiright?

Jailbroken 7+
I LOVED the screen but I miss having root and roms. My last Android was my note 5 and root took so long for that thing I said when I buy another Android I will get one that doesn't have a locked bootloader.

I thought the one from best buy wasn't locked but it was..ALSO I would permanently lose Sammy Pay even if I got rid of root and 80% battery cap just made the phone not worth it for ME anymore. I do miss it a lot though and I may be buying another one (Unlocked from Sammy) If I get a pixel xl 2 and it has issues.

Yeah it is insulting how they try to compare an iPhone to a cheap Korean knockoff. Truly disgusting.

What's that? That's only, like, my opinion, man?

You might wanna get used to the fact that people have opinions and that many people out there will always disagree with your opinion. Thinking that you're right and the rest of the world is wrong is a childish mindset that most of us grow out of.

I am not sure why I am even trying to talk with someone who's userid is "suckfest", but I guess I am a glutton for punishment.

How exactly is a Note 8 a "knock off" for any currently shipping iPhone?

Lets see,
- running a different OS
- has one of the best OMLED displays made
- has a unique design (for multiple generations) with curved screen and minimal bezels
- has the ability to multi-task with multiple apps on screen
- always on display
- rear FPS together with iris, face, etc.
- S-Pen ... and about a dozen features that it enables
- DeX... ability to run full screen apps with mouse and keyboard via dock
- Expandable storage
- Headphone jack still, while also being water resistant

To be a "knock-off", you generally don't have this many unique features, and somehow try to look similar to the target of the knock off. Samsung stopped trying to copy the iPhone about 4-5 generations ago... there was a legal battle about that... remember. Lets catch-up. If there is a knock off in the Samsung/Apple space, it would be the iPhone X. A half attempt at catching up to some of the features Samsung implemented years ago like OMLED, and worse yet using Samsung to do it.

You totally missed the point - I meant it as a way of demonstrating a different of opinions. You then had to go and write a soliloquy about why I'm wrong and you're right, further demonstrating the point that your way of thinking is inappropriate for a public space created primarily for discussing a difference of opinions. What you're doing isn't discussing or having a mature conversation - you're literally getting mad every time somebody's opinion differs from yours.

You probably should have stopped at the name jab

Are you under the impression that I'm mad? Way off. How did you even come up with the idea that I was mad?

I thought we WERE having a discussion. You said something I disagree with, so I took the time to share why I disagree with it. I didn't call you a name or attack you (other than to joke about your screen name, which was a joke, if you didn't pick that up). Everything I typed was to support my opinion... that trying to equate a Samsung smartphone as a "cheap Korean knockoff" is illogical.
