Yeah. After using an iPod Touch for a long time solely for a period of time (For around 8 months) to post to Twitter almost every day, I can't believe how thick an iPhone is. (And slowly realize that how iPod Touches are thin. And mine's just first gen.)

Kind of off topic, but I really agree. First few days with my iPhone was basically just me trying to get used to it's bulk. A week after I got it I picked up my old 2nd gen touch and felt like I was about to snap it - and I used to think that the iPod could've been thinner!

Does that mean you won't post on these boards anymore?;)

I'll post more in the iPod touch section, but not so much in the iPhone section.

Getting rid of your iPhone now might be hasty. One thing I have learned in this life is that nothing stays the same. You have Wifi at work now but what about in the future. It may not always be that way.

Try using some of the other features on your iPhone. I was never big on using a calendar but now I can't do without it. Set weekly or monthly reminders and let it work for you.

What about GPS? The iPhone makes a great turn-by-turn GPS. I think the cheapest one is $35.

Do you read? The Kindle app is great for that.

Do you go shopping a lot. Download the Amazon app and you can comparison shop on the spot. When I'm in Best Buy, I use the Amazon app to help me know if I am getting a good deal on any given item.

The data services can be a great advantage in many ways. You just need to explore your options. Try utilizing the phone in your daily life, more so than just using it as a phone and to check Twitter.

I appreciate that, but I already do use my calendar a lot. I like setting reminders, but do I need an iPhone for that? An iPod touch can do calendar stuff too. I have done that Amazon thing before though, pretty cool… but then again, if I research before I go to the store, it will help me not to impulse buy. GPS is great (when it actually works)… I can live without GPS and if I find that I absolutely cannot, I can get a GPS system for my car.

I also don't want to learn how to use my iPhone more often… I want to use it less often… actually not at all. I miss the iPod touch times where I didn't have to pay a dime to use it at all.

The build quality is fine. I have a 3GS and it's perfect.

Remember that you only read about the few phones that go wrong on the forum, people don't make threads saying their phones work fine, so you have to take time to consider the ratio.

I had 3 3GS's and I returned them all. Now I just have a first generation iPhone and an iPhone 3G.

For the love of God! Don't call it an itouch or spaztastic will be starting another thread about that!

Spaz, do as you wish but just remember in the end it's just an object and you should not feel the need to stress out about it so damn much. You seem to have a tendency to get all hyper about these decisions that are so insignificant in the grand scheme of things. Surely there are larger problems to worry about but if not, I want your life. If all I battled with was the iPod touch or iPhone delimma, I'd be one happy girl!

Exactly. It's just a phone, but I could be using that $100 to buy other things I might like. Fact is… I'd love to not feel guilty about not using my iPhone. Paying $100/mo. for a phone makes me feel like I gotta try to use it all the time for everything to justify the cost… it would be great to just have an iPod touch because I wouldn't feel guilty if I didn't touch it for a week and I could actually spend more quality time with my girlfriend and other friends. I don't wanna be attached to this device anymore.

As for the "You're carrying two devices around now"… I'll most likely leave my dumb-phone in my car and use it only when I need to make a call. I have bluetooth in my car anyway… so it won't even feel like I'm not using my iPhone because I don't even have to touch it or look at it when a call comes in while I'm driving.

Did you drop them all in a pool of water before first use?! The 3GS is superb. Fast enough to handle anything that's been thrown at it so far, and then some. And other than the new screen coating that a few people have had problems with, I honestly can't see how you can complain about the build quality. It's perfectly fine, just like the previous models.

If you wanna switch, then switch. Just don't come up with oddball excuses to leave the phone.

+1.

From what I've read, though, TheSpaz would get a phone replaced if the power button isn't exactly straight.

Yeah, I like Spaz. He's a good contributor to the site, but I think he's fairly earned that nickname over the years.

No, I dealt with a dead backlight on the first one, Uneven bezel to plastic on the second one and uneven bezel plus yellow hue only on the bottom of the screen on the third one. I was tired of returning them all the time and my HDTV broke shortly after I bought it, so I decided to return it and use the money on a new TV.

That's pretty much how it is. I'm not going to spend $500 for a phone, then $1,200/year after that if it has crooked buttons or misaligned edges. Plus, I'm not a huge fan of the plastic… it cracks easily and the glossy coat leaves nasty fingerprints all over. I find myself impulsively wiping the back of my iPhone all the time. That will end with the iPod touch.

I think everyone goes through some sort of evaluation process when new technology comes out to see if it is worth the price to have it.

It sounds like the iPhone is not cost effective for you. If that is the case, then you should drop it and move to back to your current iPod touch, or maybe purchase a iPod touch 3G when they are released.

Yes, TheSpaz is very critical of his iPhone's cosmetic condition. Items being a pixel off would bother him.

Misaligned edges dosent equal faulty phone...

As for getting fingerprints on the back, the iPod touch does the same, and a case fixes the problem.

I know, I saw his post about 3.0!

I submitted bug reports for everything I found, so hopefully Apple will fix that stuff soon. Then you can thank me for making your iPhone pixels happier. :D

1. Misaligned edges equals a faulty phone to me. I don't wanna feel something sharp in my hands where I used to feel perfectly smooth on my iPhone 3G… After all, they're supposed to have the same case design.

2. The iPod does not attract as many fingerprints as the shiny plastic. For some reason the metal is better against fingerprints… your hands have to be really dirty for them to show up. Believe me, I've owned a ton of iPods in my life. My iPhone has cracks in the plastic back but my iPod touch has been dropped a few times and has yet to show a single crack.

TheSpaz. I am almost with you on this. I can't wait to see the new iPod Touch's when they come out. As much as I love my iPhone I don't use the data that much anymore and I can't see justifying the $30 a month for e-mail when I can check it at home.

Yay! Why doesn't Apple just turn the iPod touch into a go-phone. Hehe. I know, wishful thinking. Imagine that though… iPod touch that only does wifi, phone and text. No data and no monthly commitment… and no annual contract.

BTW, TheSpaz, what really needs fixing iPhone cosmetic wise is the YouTube uploader, that looks horrible.

Although I love my iPhone and wouldn't give it up for anything I think that an iPhone with just wi-fi and to make cals and text would be a great option to have, for people that don't want a $80+ bill and don't need all of the iPhone's features...

If i were to get rid of an iPhone it wouldn't be because of cost, overall cost of owning an iPhone for me is cheap. So i have little to complain about. However from an American perspective the iPhone is indeed expensive. $100+ is a lot.

The iPod Touch + Phone is a very good way to go especially now that the gap between the touch and the iPhone is set to become even narrower this coming wednesday...you wouldn't be missing anything besides AT&T of which, given recent reports...there's nothing to miss but bad service

I personally would find it difficult going back to carrying two devices instead of one...its one of the reasons i moved to an iPhone in the first place and one of the reasons i haven't gotten an iPod since 2005 but...to each their own

Sounds like you've made the right decision for you (though didn't we have this exact conversation about a month ago?). It wouldn't be the right decision for me, but to each his own.

This thread has grown a bit since i checked earlier

How many of these threads has he created

lol

Well I have at least a month to think about it. That's when I'll be getting some cash and by then the new iPod Touch's will be out. Win/Win.

okay im not sure how far you are along in your contract or what you plan on doing with it once you get rid of your iphone

but here is my advice..

an ipod touch is basically like the iphone without the phone feature..so you dont need to get rid of the iphone and then go and get an ipod touch..call at&t (or go into the store) and tell them you lost your iphone so you want to cancel your data plan..they'll most likely do it for you without any hassle..so your cutting your $30 a month right there

also, you can pop in a pay as you go sim into your iphone it should work perfectly fine..like i said i dont know what the deal is with your contract so you have to figure that out..but you already have the iphone, you may as well cut the service back to fit your needs rather than get rid of one thing and buy the phone-less version of it again

Yay! I'm so excited that you won't be posting in the iPhone section anymore. I got tired of saying you wanted to get rid of your iPhone. YES! :D
