But you don't turn it up manually if you want the maximum brightness outdoors. Adaptive/auto brightness pushes beyond what the manual slider can do when outdoors. I believe its some 400 nits or so brighter, which is quite a bit. I can understand though if you prefer having manual brightness control on, but you're missing out on the max brightness the phone can actually achieve.
I had it on manual. I turned on adaptive to try it out.

I just hope Google gives people ultra wide and telephoto...that's my only hope

Camera will be fantastic we know this...although hope we see improvements that plus stock Android is enough for most

On the Pixel 5? Pretty sure it's all but confirmed it'll have ultrawide this time but no telephoto.

I cancelled my P4a order yesterday, ...again. I decided to wait for the price and phone announcements on Sept 30th. I may just have to wait for Black Friday and see if there's a discount. Although maybe last years discount might have been due to lukewarm sales for the Pixels. This year Google has trouble keeping the P4a in stock so that's a good problem to have if you are Google.

If the P4a 5G and the Pixel 5 sell extremely, I wonder if Google will offer a $200 discount to spur sales if they are having the same problem with keeping the P4a in stock? I'm not so sure about Best Buy doing a BF discount this year because of Covid 19. Most of the big box retailers will not be having a BF opening and they certainly don't want the floor traffic that comes with BF.

So this could all boil down to whether sales are Good/Hot for the P4a 5G and Pixel 5. If not, then I can definitely envision discounts to spur sales.

I was reading a link to an article that says the price of the Pixel 5 will be $599. That's an awesome price if it's true and it will only get better if we see a BF discount on top of that.

Two official Pixel 5 renders have surfaced, alongside some tech and price info.
I'm so excited!

They say it's actually made of glass and (recycled) aluminium, so no plastic. And with those uniform bezels it looks so good.

When battery is Google's relatively generous at pixel 5 and built a 4080mAh large power storage, which can be charged relatively quickly using a USB Type-C connection with the supplied power supply unit with a maximum of 18 watts. Wireless charging is also available, including the option to reverse-charge headphones and other devices. In addition to glass, the housing of the Pixel 5 is made of 100 percent recycled aluminum and is IP68 certified, making it waterproof and dustproof.

If true, a 107 degree wide angle lens seems a little disappointing to me when compared with Samsung S/Notes.

Still might consider this phone as a second device. My Note 20 Ultra takes such great pics though that I'm not sure that the Pixel's camera is pulling at me as much now.
I'm in the same boat at this point. I want to see Google do really great things in their phone line for sure but they can't win on camera alone anymore, especially when you factor in versatility.

Dave Lee‘s predictions here hint at a lower priced Pixel 5, which if right is good news, as i’ve had a gut-full of the increasing cost of flagship smartphones in recent years.

Plastic back, without the latest & greatest CPU is a good thing imo...

Also rumoured to have more RAM, better battery, 90Hz screen, rear fingerprint sensor, & with a 5.8 screen that looks to finally be rid of bezels all add up to a very attractive option which I hope steals many customers away from the ridiculously priced kings in Samsung.

Am I weird that I'd actually prefer plastic? Haha

Monster! 😜

Actually I think plastic would be ok.

I really want better radios in this thing. Seems to be a weak point in pixels / nexuses. My XL 2 while has been better now seems to be having connection issues lately on fi. Oftentimes I need to go into airplane mode for a moment and turn it off to get a signal back. Today needed a reboot while I was out... because I had no service, it was like the network just dropped the device. Been getting more frequent. Not that fi uses more premium carrier airwaves or anything.

Why is this exciting? Serious question.

I looked at bestbuy.com and the Galaxy S20 is available for just $750, with true flagship chip, 5G, full set of camera lenses (wide, ultra wide, and telephoto), premium material, 12GB of RAM. And Samsung already promises 3 years of OS updates.

This is rumored to still be priced $150 lower than that, any modern chip is enough power for most folks, this will have 5G (but does anyone care about 5G right now anyways?), Pixel software processing is better and the telephoto is the least useful lens of that set (this is rumored to have both wide lenses) AND the S20 has much discussed camera issues, most people put a case on anyways, how much RAM is too much really, for a phone? Yeah, three years of updates but not nearly in the timely fashion of Google, with on-time security patches in particular.

Not saying your point is completely invalid, but a lot of those hold little to no weight for others.

It's $150 less because it is less hardware to begin with. Plastic, non flagship chip, no mmwave 5G, less RAM, only 90Hz screen. In fact, that's overpriced when OnePlus Nord has the same SD765 for even less.

And Samsung will release Galaxy S20 FE soon.

I still don't get what's so exciting about the Pixel 5 at this point.
