Ugh... Not so sure about that green 🧐 guessing it'll sell like the pumpkin spice 4 did however. Really not sure on the 5 all together again. Actually think I might be a little pixeled out. 😳

I might sit the Pixel 5 out. I am really happy with my Pixel 4XL. I like Face unlock more than a FPS. I like the bigger size of an XL as well.

I really haven't got into my 4 yet. Still on my XL 2  it is starting to get wonky though, been seeing a lot of "awww snap" messages on chrome on some sites. Not sure if it's a ram issue or outdated android or screwy backend or being rooted and ad blocker causing a snafu.

What kind of material is the back on the Pixel 5. Hopefully some mat glass.
The leaked renders confuse me, because it looks like a speckled/textured aluminum back, but we've also been told it would include wireless charging.

Rumors are pointing out to $700 price point.

Quite tone deaf from Google considering Samsung just released the S20 FE at the same $700 price point.

Not really. Still a fair bit cheaper than previous Pixels and Google would have had a price set a while ago now. The FE coming out with those specs & prices was a surprise to everyone.

Looking at similary spec’d phones, its fair to say this is still overpriced. Just not outrageously overpriced like most Pixels before. I just don’t look at the price of Pixels at MSRP anymore because i know it’ll be at least $100 cheaper on Black Friday so Ive just conditioned my brain to consider that the release date. So, For $600 or less, the Pixel 5 should be a really good deal for a really good device as long as it isnt plagued by Googles typical hardware issues.

I'm hoping the article I linked too earlier is correct that the starting price is $599. If it's $699 i'll just go with the P4a.

Surprise or not, the Galaxy S20 FE is going to kill Google’s hardware sales at carriers here in the US. Side-by-side, for regular consumers, the Samsung will be far more appealing.

Google lost their opportunity over the first 4 years of the Pixel line to gain serious traction and brand recognition. If they had initially hit a lower price point (and if they’d made for carrier deals to get them on shelves everywhere), more customer’s might have become acquainted with the product line and developed some loyalty, something Samsung has in spades. Now they’re competing with OnePlus and Samsung at that same price point against superior hardware.

I wouldn’t be surprised if this is the last year we see a higher end Pixel and that Google just embraces the budget price point where the ‘a‘ models have done much better.

None of it matters anyway, Google don't seem bothered how many phones they sell.
So true and they sell tens of millions each year albeit not with the Google name on it, so they really don't care who's name is on the phone. It all serves the same purpose, i.e. it's Android and not iOS.

Google shooting themselves in the foot again. They release the Pixel 4a, way late in August, and on Sept. 30th, they'll announce the Pixel 4a 5G and Pixel 5.

Why release the Pixel 4a, and then one month later confuse people with the larger Pixel 4a 5G?

The way I think Google should have done it;

- April 2020 = Pixel 4a
- October 2020 = Pixel 5 and Pixel 5 XL

And not even come out with the Pixel 4a 5G, but give us a 6.5" or so Pixel 5 XL.

Google's Pixel phones represent 0.07% of all the smartphones sold each year...

Does it really matter what they do or when they launch them?

:p

Pixel 5 will be a great phone but at $699, the Samsung FE at $599 is a better deal.

I think the 5 should be $599 and a 5XL should be $799 with a 4K screen and the 865.

The only issues I have with the P4a is a smaller screen and it was released before Android 11. So the P4a will probably get Andorid 13 and both the P4a 5G and P5 will get Android 14.

Yes, that's exactly what the Pixel needs, a battery hogging 4K screen and power hungry chip. Add in 5G and you've got an all morning phone.
The 3XL had the latest chipset of the day and 4K and did fine. They reduced the battery size in the 4XL for some reason and it had worse battery life.

I do agree that 4K is a useless feature nowadays. But I will miss the XL size.

I think it’s pretty clear though that Google did not plan on releasing the 4a in August, but the pandemic dictated the delay.

You're getting mixed up anyway, no Pixel has anything like a 4K screen. 2960x1440 on the 3XL.

The point of these new Pixels is to come in at a lower price point and the lesser chip helps with that as well as giving better battery life.

Sorry, QHD is more accurate.

A lower price point is a good strategy but others are beating Google to the punch.

The FE at $599 is very aggressive.

I honestly really love the Subtle Sage color and the chrome power button. Google always gets the hardware design just right. I've been mourning the design death of the 4, but, damn, Google did it again with the Pixel 5. I really love Google's design language. It's one reason why I wish Google would get its **** together.

I'm still looking forward to the event on Wednesday. I am always interested in Pixels, and as much as I ripped that green colour I do also like it myself.

The big thing for me with Pixels was getting a wide angle. And if the 4a 5G has it and a bigger size, I'm sure I'll pick one of those up. Not bothered about wireless charging and extra ram.

Still doesn't make sense with their naming. The 4A & 4A 5G are quite a bit different to the 4 line.

Have their been any leaks around release dates outside of America? I know the 4a still isn't out here yet, and I don't think will be until the 5 has been unveiled.
Usually America get it a few weeks after announcement. Be good if we got treated the same.
