Google Pixel 5 and Pixel 5 XL

Looks like a perfectly acceptable upgrade for those using older Pixel devices but I’d never consider ditching my 4 XL for this.

I like the premium feel of glass backed smartphones but in reality, glass is a big functional compromise for the sake of aesthetics and just about everyone uses a case on them regardless. I’d actually be more likely forgo using a case if the back was a nice textured plastic and this looks like it’ll be pretty resistant to fingerprints.

I’ve never been a fan of rear place FP sensors though as I use my phone on a flat surface or in a dock often enough that it’s super inconvenient to use. Pair it with biometrically secure Face Unlock and I’ll like it a lot more but on it’s own, I really dislike them.

So again, looks pretty good but nothing about it screams ‘must have’ for me personally.

If the unlocked variant of the Pixel 5 has both sub 6ghz and MMwave 5G, I will strongly consider it. The one knock I have against the S20 FE is I'm with Verizon, I don't want to choose between a Verizon version with just MMwave or the unlocked with just sub 6ghz.

The Pixel 5 is a beautiful device. But that back cover looks like plastic. Hopefully it's not.

Yeah, just read it’s likely aluminum. That’s a bummer of you like wireless charging. I’d honestly rather have a high quality plastic to be able to keep wireless charging vs. metal back and not having it.

Supposedly Google found a way to have wireless charging even with the aluminum back. We'll find out soon.

Hope they don't spend 45 minutes talking about Nest and all the other products and then 15 mins on the phones.
Also, hope it's available in all countries at the same time, otherwise the Xperia 5 ii gets my money.

We've already heard the now famous "available now in America, and will be with other countries by the end of the year."
Lolllll.

Can't wait to hear it for every other prodcut they're about to introduce.

Google TV looks decent. Should be a lot better than the Roku UI with is currently the best option available for a reasonable price.
 
Considering replacing my Roku Express with the new Chromecast, wonder how that will integrate to my Logitech Harmony remote...
 
£599 in UK delivers 16th October.
Google also offering preorder bonus of Bose over ear headphones. Pretty sweet.
