Couldn't resist and pre-ordered the Pixel 5 just black, got October 30-31 delivery. Will keep looking at reviews in the coming weeks re: 5G support and whether it supports all 5G, MMwave and low/mid band. So annoying.

Edit- looks like it supports both, that's great.

Its weird, on the carrier selection page it specifically has a Verizon model and it calls out that it has both. But it doesnt say anything like that for the unlocked or Google Fi models. So Im thinking only the Verizon model supports both 5g modes.

Couldn’t watch live, but thankfully I didn’t! Such a dry launch, and when people actually were talking, they picked the WORST camera angles. Why do I need to see the side of someone’s head while she is talking to me about a product!?

Doesn't make much sense at all. But that's more of a production flex, which wasn't needed.... as I've said previously Apple has made it tough on other companies. At this point... most of these companies just need to send out a press release... give us a few YT tutorials on what's new, send products out to YT content makers. And that's it. Because there's no competing with Apple in terms of virtual product events.

Google store trade-in offers continue to be insulting. $268 for a Pixel 4 XL. Same for a Note 10+.

$350 for the Note10+, is definitely not worth it. But I understand Google perspective, they need to recoup some money for the trade in. However, at the end of the day... Google isn't clamoring to sell a gazillion of these Pixels.

Here is the spec page from Google:

It seems that the unlocked U.S. Pixel 5 supports both MMwave and sub-6ghz.

I'm actually a little disappointed the 4a 5G has an extra 5 week wait. I'll just have to tell myself that slightly smaller battery & bigger screen will hammer the battery. lol

I know losing .7" screen size from my Note, along with all the bells & whistles will be an adjustment. And it's a real shame Face Unlock only lasted 1 year. But I'm definitely looking forward to owning a Pixel again, I just love the camera & user experience and finally got my wish for an ultrawide on one. No complaints about the price, especially with a pair of headphones thrown in I can probably sell for close to £200.

Is the camera quality a big step on the Pixel 5 over the Pixel 4 XL?
The HDR+ improvements are not insignificant, also Night Sight + Portrait... awesome. Not sure if they're coming to older models. I think they will be quite improved from last year.

Man its still overpriced. Especially if you hold it up to the S20 FE. Around $600 it makes more sense. Google just cant get a handle on the market. They put too much value in their software and customers wanting stock android.
Wow, "hold for me" feature is pretty awesome.

Your 2nd comment touches on why some of us pay the premium for Pixel devices. The features that come down fully supported on our older devices add a quantifiable value to our purchases. Add to that the consistent releases of Android updates, it gives these phones a decent long term value.

Are you doing a trade in for the Note20 Ultra? I don't even see that on the trade in page...

Well I had a sage green one in my shopping cart just for fun. But I really am good with the Pixels I have. Even my Pixel 2 has done well on updates. I used Google Playgrounds a lot and the new Pixels can’t do that anymore so the temptation is not as overwhelming to me as it would otherwise be.

I am still interested in the upcoming iPhone Mini, which may end up being around the same price. I might possibly trade my SE 2020 in on that. I don’t know, but I want to keep my options open. I at least want to see the iPhone event before I commit to any preorders. If I do so at all. Which is really up in the air. I like my SE so the Mini would have to offer some key advantages to get me to switch. I am keen to have a Qualcomm modem on an iPhone again.

It's funny reading through comments on Twitter, bashing the Pixel for it's "3 year old design" and telling people they should buy an iPhone for it's chip. Some people just don't get it.

3 year old designs? Sound a lot like what critics say about Apple.

lol No. I'll sell my Note 10+ privately.

Oh, my apologies. You mention .7" and the 4a 5G, I'm thinking that you have the Note20 Ultra with 6.9" display and going for the 4a 5G with 6.2" display.

I believe the Note 10+ has a 6.8" display, I'm in the process trying to find a buyer for mine.

I kinda like it nice size and the back fingerprint sensor beats the in screen sensor. Looks like a good daily phone I think google is moving away from trying to compete with Samsung and is focusing on a daily phone for most people.

I like it I’ll consider it soon but my 11 max is also pretty nice minus a few issues.

Hope they get a battery widget like Apple has they need to focus on everyday users who want to integrate their google peoducts

like a chrome caster remote from the phone would be nice.

Considering replacing my Roku Express with the new Chromecast, wonder how that will integrate to my Logitech Harmony remote...

FWIW, My harmony remote (with hub) works quite well with my Nvidia Shield TV, running Android TV. So I'd assume it would work on this new chromecast. The hub just connects to the Shield via Bluetooth.

Actually, white isn't available on the 4a 5G. Not sure where that pic came from.

Verizon exclusive.

The Pixel 4a (5G) and 5 are extremely well priced for mid-tier - £599 for the 5 with a pair of Bose QC ii headphones thrown in is a cracking deal here in the UK. Sorta Sage colour looks cool.

But I love the slick face unlock of my Pixel 4XL and could revert back to a fingerprint on the rear like the Nexus years.

Also I really wanted Google to release an XL or equivalent version of the 5 too. My 4 XL is 6.3" vs 6.0" of the 5.

Google are definitely going for a different type of flagship in 2020 to appeal to more people.

No doubt Google will sell both new versions like hot cakes in all countries, especially upgrading from older Pixels.

But this year it's an easier decision going for the new iPhone.
