Really hoping that Google sorted the battery out in the Pixel 5, given that it doesn't appear there will be an XL variant.

I'm interested in this phone as the 6" screen size is a bit of a sweet spot for me and bigger than the previous smaller main entry devices.

It does all depend on that battery though as it has been a constant source of disappointment to me in their smaller main line phones since the OG Pixel.

Even though there's no XL variant this year, the Pixel 5 will have 4080mAh versus 3700mAh on the 4 XL.
This, a smaller display (in size and resolution), and a less powerful(?) CPU, I think it's going to be better than last year.

Yep. All specs point to a positive outcome. Fingers crossed!

I don't know if it's been posted here, but I've seen reports of the Pixel 5 due in mid October and the 4a 5G mid November. How would that make sense.

Of course that's in the US, the rest of the world will probably have another month added on.

I am not sure anything about the Pixel makes sense to me this year.....

I really love my P4XL...but this years models seem to be going backwards in features.

I hear you. Personally, I don't mind the direction they're going (cheaper price, mid range specs) but it's still a bit messy.
There doesn't seem to be too much of a differentiation between the 5 and 4a/4a 5g apart from materials and some internals.

I just think it's a bit confusing. Like I say though, I'm still quite invested as it has everything I look for in a device. It's not too big, the battery finally seems sufficient, it has 90hz and we know that camera is going to be good. It would be good to see some improvement in the camera though.

For the last few years it's felt like Google have just coasted with that same lens and been reliant on software. Not a bad thing at all, with the results it yields, but surely they can do something else now!

Personally I like bigger phones so no XL this year is not good. Then I loved FaceUnlock on the Pixel 4XL...it works better than anything else in the smartphone space and just as secure. Fingerprint sensor on the back is a step backwards imho.

They do need to update the camera hardware...but the Pixel still ranks right up near the top in camera hardware.
Getting a bigger battery is a welcome sign as well.

But going from the P4XL to what has been rumored to be announced tomorrow is a step backwards imho.

I need you to stop with the rock solid logic. I have a phone I'm trying to get excited about here. Lol

Yeah I wouldn't be pleased if there was no smaller model so I get you're annoyance at no (rumoured) XL.

I loved Face Unlock too but don't mind the inclusion of a fingerprint scanner if I'm honest. I think others have said it before, but in the current times with face masks, fingerprint scanners seem to be preferred. But it is just another odd decision from Google.

We will know all tomorrow anyway! And then you can order it for delivery the next day and I can prob register my interest for delivery in March 😂

In fairness, I don't think I've ever known anyone ever be excited about a Pixel release! It's usually the same every year. It's leaked weeks / months before and looks disappointing every single time. Rumours end up being true, it's met with very little hype but then we all buy them and end up enjoying them for the most part. :D

This time, i quite like the look of what's on offer.

I'm of exactly the same sentiment. I love Face Unlock on both the Pixel and iPhone and even though times today can make it far less convenient to use some of the time, I still want it on my devices. Ideally, I want both--would be great to have either available or even require use of both for situations where I want an even higher level of authentication.

I know I won't be upgrading to any Pixel 5 from my 4 XL (if all of these rumors prove true) and presently don't really plan on getting a new iPhone either (yeah, famous last words, I know ;)) but if the new iPhone 'Pro Max or whatever it's called' happens to have both FaceID AND TouchID on the power button like the upcoming iPad Air, I will likely pull the trigger.

Im interested in how Google managed a semi-metal phone but with wireless charging. If they did manage to figure it out, I hope every other manufacturer follows suit and ends this glass back fingerprint hell we've been living in.

Two areas the Pixel 5 can beat the Pixel 4 XL would be significantly better battery life and a much brighter lit display. And a third one too I suppose would be easier one-handed operation since it's basically all screen and minimal bezels.

Sort of reminds me of a futuristic version of the classic Motorola Nexus 6, I had the N6, And it was a lovely phone for its day very futuristic. The Pixel 5 seems like the Nexus 6's sci fi future self.

So... Event tomorrow. Anyone got their plastic ready? ? Probably going to hold off on a pre order. But still mildly curious what the G has to show.

I'm still pretty much pixeled and even phoned out. I think they got boring and or I've just lost interest. Shesh, I remember when new devices where around the corner and I'd drool and want to get the latest and root the sucker asap. Now it's meh. Basically the same thing in the same albeit at times more colorful wrapper that you pay extra for the glitter and bow.

I'll wait until Black Friday, there's usually a sale and all the people that preordered whine about how they got a raw deal because they paid the price that was offered when they ordered.

Looks good. I still dont understand why they decided to fix the major issues once going to a mid-range phone. But I'm glad they did. As long as battery life is good and the 700 chip performs well enough, this will be a great phone. The issue is that Samsung just released a better version of this for cheaper. Still, if it drops to around $500 on Black Friday I'll probably give it a go and see how it is.

The back looks as bad as the 4a. Cheap as chips.
Yes, "who looks at the back of their phone" blah blah. Still, doesn't look good IMO.

Expected something a little bit more premium looking for the 5. Green will hopefully not look as plastic.

Even with great camera not sure if they price it at 699 with outdated chip and missing either an ultra wide or telephoto can be justified here not given the price point of other phones at that price

I'm more excited for other things they may announce.. Pixel 4a will be the best option still
