Same, loved it, the wedge shape was really cool as well lol. Before that I'd only had a Nexus 5 and 6 which were my favourite phones ever.

I've never had the official Pixel cases before, I did originally order one yesterday but I've cancelled it. 🤣
The official Google cases are really nice. Good protection and feel good too.
I love the look of the mint one but I think I may end up going blue or just get a clear case to slap on.

I also had a Bellroy leather case for my 7 Pro and that was great too.

Looks like all of the colour and storage configurations are still in stock on the Google store.
Either there is loads of stock or they’re just not as popular this time out!
Yeah could be a combination of both. Pixel's have always been a niche smartphone vs mainstream Apple and Samsung. Maybe potential 8 buyers are waiting for reviews in before going full purchase. Actually quite nice to see Google do have stock in this year! They've usually sold out quickly in all colour & storage versions!

I agree, I think last year Google realized that the 7 series had solid value to go along with high trade in values, and bonus giveaways. I got $200 store credit on top of getting back almost all of what I paid for my Pixel 4a. It appears they ramped up production orders but then shot themselves in the foot by raising prices and lowering trade in values.

If not for my $200 store credit from last year and trading in my P6, I would have passed on the purchase of the 8 Pro.

I’ve stopped paying for YT premium now and I am SICK of seeing these ads when watching videos.
I’m tempted to get premium again as the adverts are so intrusive. Showing up in the middle of a video too?! Not ok.
Yeah, I’ve decided I’d quit YT altogether if I had to watch the ads. I won’t subscribe to a streaming service if there isn’t as ad free option. YT Premium is probably the last of the streaming services I pay for that I‘d give up too.

Does anyone have any advice or tips for someone going from an iPhone (for years) to a Pixel?

I decided yesterday to pre-order after watching the keynote...
But I'm thinking the switch from iOS to Android will be a shock for me.
Also, does anyone know where I can get pretty cases/skins for it? I'm not finding many like I would for my iPhone. I'm just hoping I didn't make the wrong move.

Ooo gosh. Always a bold move going from iOS to Android. What was the reason out of curiosity?
First question I always ask is - do you use an Apple Watch. As if yes, and you love it, you will NOT find the Pixel Watch to match what the Apple Watch can do.
I think it’s the gold standard of smart watches. Me personally, I don’t care for it at all, but I’m very much in the minority. People go crazy over the AW and if you find it integrates into your life well then you will likely go running back to an iPhone for it no matter how much you like the Android device you’re using.

The best advice I can give is give yourself time to understand Android. The Pixel is a great shout to move to as I think it’s very much the iPhone of the Android world. But you need to find time to adapt and learn the OS. If you only last a day and say it’s not for you then IMO you haven’t given it anywhere near long enough. Use the 2 week return period to make a full, informed decision.

Re cases, I always think Casetify do a good selection. But they’re expensive.

I’d recommend giving this video a watch. It’s a good introduction to Pixels (it is last years model, but the OS hasn’t fundamentally changed).

Good luck! Do post your thoughts!

As with any platform whether you are going from Android to iOS or iOS to Android, the best advice is not to compare the platforms. In other words don't think when using your Pixel, well iOS has this setting or feature here or there, why isn't it on Android. Once you start doing that, you hit a mental block and quickly return to what's familiar to you.

I have a coworker who all he has ever used is an iPhone and has consider Android and would like too but he told me that he's so familiar with iOS and where every thing is, he would get easily frustrated trying to do the same on Android.

So my advice is to turn off the iPhone and just use, learn and accept that Android is different from iOS. Once you do that, you get to see all the pros and cons of Android. If the negatives outweigh the positives then you'll make a better decision of which platform to use. 🤓

Edit: Just a side note. I'll be 65 later this month. I've been around tech since the early 80's. I've worked in Data Centers, setup computer systems, troubleshoot software and hardware problems. I use computers running Windows, macOS, and Linux. I have iPad's and Android tablets along with Android phones.

I learned to compartmentalize each platform. In other words I can easily get around any iOS, Android, Windows, macOS device. I just learned not to compare A with B and learn each platform on its own.

I was an Apple Watch user for a long time, but lately not as much, so I won't really miss that.
I am deciding to switch because I was really impressed with the Keynote... all the things the camera can do amazed me.
I'm hoping the rest of the phone does.
I am planning on trying it out for a while and seeing if I'm still happy with this decision during my trial period - we'll see!
Thank you for the video, I'm going to check it out in a few minutes!

Thank you, I am going to do just that! I would love to see what Android offers, and I'm liking all the customization option I'm seeing. But once I try it out, I'll know for sure.

Here's a few tips from the Google help area for the transfer over... And I'm sure you have other people here that can add more info additionally... We hope you like the experience on the Android side...

I have the 13. I had the 15 ProMax but returned it. I wasn’t wowed. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Smart choice choosing a Pixel for your first Android phone, I think the Google Pixel phones are the Google version of the iPhone, a lot of people have said that too. It's more minimal and has a simple clean UI compared to like a Samsung Galaxy phone. Plus the new Pixel 8 should be pretty nice, smooth 120hz screen, bright display, smooth and fluid UI, etc...

Some outstanding features of Pixel phones are Live Translate. You speak into the phone and it translates it into another language on the fly, no waiting. That's a great feature if it's not a language you speak or understand. I have had people asking for help and they spoke into their Pixel and it translated their language into English with a super high accuracy rate. Languages are limited as Google adds more to Live Translate.

Magic Eraser and Unblur, those are two camera features that Google AI handles for photo editing.

Call Screener is my #1 feature where Google Assistant answers the phone and asks the caller for why they are calling me. It generates in real-time text on my phone where I can see what they are responding to Google Assistant. Google's call screener has virtually eliminated all of my Robocalls. This is totally different from Apple's Live Voicemail feature.

There's another crazy Google feature and I forget it's name (Live Transcribe?), maybe someone here knows the name where you can set it to record a conversation and it transcribes the conversation in real time on your phone with 100% near accuracy and it will even note who is responding to who. So you'll know it was you who said what to the other person and vice versa. I have never used this feature but Marques who is pro Android and has a popular YT channel has demonstrated this feature. That's a great feature for a college student who hates taking notes in class.

I gamed the system and canceled my Google order again. This time I went with Xfinity Mobile and they gave me $400 for my Pixel 6 towards the 8 Pro (porcelain) and it comes with a free Pixel Watch 2 (must be claimed/redeemed on Google's website). I then used my $200 Google store credit on the Pixel Buds Pros. (Bay)
