Just saw a deal from a UK retailer with a promo code that I can get the Pixel 8 Pro and the free Pixel 2 watch for Ā£799.

I am half tempted to try it.. and move over from the iPhone 15 Pro and Apple Watch Ultra 2.

How relaible are Pixels from launch? I am more concerned about the connectivity aspects such as signal strength and GPS performance. Previously had the OG Pixel from the Pixel line!
Which retailer was that if you don't mind me asking? I'm guessing this is with some sort of contract deal

That didn't last long, they only came out 2 weeks ago. šŸ¤£
I have been known to switch sides alot. Hehe!
Wife will get the 15 Pro (upgrade from her 14 Pro) and I may return the Apple Watch Ultra 2. I am not sure how good the Pixel Watch 2 will be however for fitness tracking.

Very.co.uk - sim free using a 20% code that is specific to my account which lets me use it on the Pixel 8 Pro preorders (unfortunately Apple products are not allowed on this code). There is also potentially another 10% cashback for the phone. Hence, I am tempted to try. :)

Thanks, the only 20% off deal I can access off Very is their new credit customers which I'm not interested in. Plus it's capped at Ā£100 max discount. The deal you got is very good considering you get the watch included + another 10% cashback on top.

I got a very account years ago as I was able to use the 20% on a series 3 stainless steel Apple Watch! Still have the watch today (wearing it now!).
Very are rip off merchants now though with their APR if you pay monthly so I have stayed well clear of them. Only purchase I ever made with them was that watch šŸ˜.

It's a good deal if you can use the code, I used mine years ago :p
I seem to get a 20% off code every year around this time of the year like clock work. Not going to complain. They also sometimes send a 20% off code for my birthday in May. All codes exclude Apple products.

I went through to checkout and the code applied the full 20% off, Ā£799 with the free Pixel Watch 2.
Also added the 10% cashback code (Ā£79.90) by using the BNPL option (they may decline it due to 2 codes used) but this can be hit and miss. You just pay off the balance once the cashback is credited in your account so incurring no interest.

Agreed with the rip off merchant comment but if you play them as per their own game/rules there are bargains out there. For example, got my mum a S21Fe for a decent price last year.

So, I just played for a while with a pixel 8 pro here in a German store (Mediamarkt) ... wow Samsung and google did it again šŸ¤” Exynos/tensor are such a piece of S*** I don't know what google was thinking when they commissioned Samsung to create tensor for them.

The device got noticeable warm just by snapping a couple of pics (no video) and by using Google maps for like 2 minutes, the device was dropping frames literally just swiping the Homescreens and scrolling through the google store was a stuttery mess, I guess because the phone had overheated. Mind you the device was being but so are all phones on display in such stores šŸ¤.

I'm cancelling my preorder, google let's talk again when you ditch samsung and come up with a decent processor šŸ¤”
you're using an example on an in store demo unit? thats an awful way to judge a device. my pixel 7 pro has never heated up taking photos. Pixels can heat up in heavy usage in the sun but normal usage it doesn't.

Not sure I would cancel my order on the back of a demo model that likely has full brightness set all day, is being wirelessly charged and generally messed with constantly.

Deliveries start tomorrow! Case dispatched from the Google store :)
Well I even played today with a galaxy 23u, an Xperia 5 V and an iphone 15 pro max to make comparisons and they did not behave like that.

I agree 100%. I would never go by any phone demo in a store. Iā€™ve seen it too many times with plenty of phones in place such as Best Buy they just do not run anywhere close to how they perform in real life. Iā€™ve seen all different brands same results

My 7 Pro on the last couple of 14 betas has performed great taking a bunch of pics, videos for a minute or 2 and using nav for way more than 2 minutes in the car. None of this happens. Ever.

I don't know what this guy is on about but if doesn't happen on the 7 Pro (for me), there is no way it's gonna happen on the 8 Pro where the chip is improved across the board.

I have zero concerns about that. My only question is real-world battery improvements. The phone handles everyday tasks with ease and no lag or stutter.

I'm replying to your message from my warm Pixel 7 šŸ˜¹, which got warm just by using Chrome and listening to an album on Spotify. I'll just wait for the reviews and all the impressions here in the forum! šŸ§

Nilay Patel, who has a podcast called ā€œVergecastā€, is not a fan of that feature. (I believe he is editor in chief at the Verge)
The Verge can give useful info but they have definitely always been more biased towards Apple and the iPhone, I would take anything they say about non-Apple products like the Pixel with a pinch of salt.

Decided Iā€™m going to wait for the Black Friday sales. Probably get $200 off to wait another month and a half. I have no need for a watch or buds.

I have watched a ton of hands on videos with the P8P and not one had the issues you did. Believe me if tech reviewers had the same experience as you...it would be all of YouTube! They would want to be the first one to expose some larger issue and get all the likes and views that would drive traffic to the YT channel.
I think you had a bad experience with a demo/display device that probably needed a reboot.
