I’m skeptical but I went on Best Buy’s site and supposedly with my busted back glass 13 pro max I’ll get 775! I’m going to call and ask someone if that is legit

First proper unboxing of the Pixel 8 Pro, this guy received his unit early.
Now I’m really happy I went with Obsidian, looks stealth and amazing in matte black.
Google got the black perfect, I prefer it to Apple’s space grey on the 15PM this year.

What happens if you decide to return the phone? Let's say the trade-in is already processed. I'm assuming you have to return the phone + watch (or buds).

So:
Pay 1,000 for Pixel 8 Pro.
Get ($900) refunded from a trade-in.

Then you decide to return the phone + promotional device. I'm assuming you'd definitely get $100 back, but what about the value of the trade-in? Is that refunded or would you get a gift card?

Offtopic but, @drinkingtea's account is cancelled? First GrumpyMom and now her. What is happening?
No idea what happened with GM but drinkingtea I think has left to avoid temptation. 😜

From memory they’d bought every pixel from the 4 right up to the 7 and returned them all and bought them back again in the space of about 3 months, so prob best 😂. Oh and a Nothing phone in between too.
This place is a bad influence in fairness. But I’ve resigned myself to the fact that I will always give into temptation and I don’t drink or do drugs and I don’t have kids (ew) so I’ve got to have some joy 😂😄.

Gonna take a regular iPhone 15 for a spin for the next week or so. I liked my 15 Pro but promotion gave me motion sickness. Hopefully it works out with the iPhone as I prefer Apple as a business and their products/ecosystem.

Something about Google I just don't mesh with.

I presume the MagSafe cases have magnets in them to allow for use with MagSafe wireless chargers etc?
I am tempted by a Belkin wireless charging stand for my iPhone so I can use the standby feature stuff, but presume it won’t be compatible with the Pixel unless I have a MagSafe case?

Interesting information coming in over at XDA. They say the 8/8 Pro camera sensors are not the old GN1's as many people are claiming but actually slighter newer Samsung ISOCELL GNV sensor found on the Vivo X80 Pro which was one of the best phones for still photos. The GNV has a sensor size of 1/1.3-inch. Google says the main camera can now take in 21% more light than the Pixel 7 main cameras.

Actually the MagSafe wallet I got just to test out works fine on the 7Pro with no case. I just hold the wallet up with the phone hovering below and it stays on. It's not a strong as the actual MagSafe connection but it's a damn solid connection on its own.

Ok just got back from Best Buy, fondled some phones :)

-Pixel 8 / 8 Pro on display. There was some chatter online recently about the regular Pixel 8 not feeling like a true smooth 120hz display, and I noticed it myself, the Pixel 8 felt a bit weird, almost like a 60hz screen, I checked if Smooth Display was on, and yes it was, but something felt off, it seemed liked choppy animations or something. But the overall phone size was perfect very great shape and feel, and display was bright. Now the Pixel 8 Pro, yes that was smooth as silk, it was definitely 120hz and very fluid. The screen was crisp and bright. But between the two phones the 8 Pro just felt much faster and snappier, it was a noticeable difference.

-Galaxy S23 Ultra, dumb demo mode, still can't get a feel for the phone. The Samsung rep was there and she has a S22 Ultra as her personal phone, said I could play with hers, so I did :) Maybe the S22U is just on poor hardware, but I clearly saw hiccups, and it felt jittery like it was on 60hz display setting? It wasn't slow or laggy, no. but it had a weird feel to it, and I did not like it.

-iPhone 15 Pro Max, you know my dislike for iOS, but dang, that is a smooth phone, I love the FLAT display and how it goes edge to edge, and even the UI / screen goes to the very bottom of the phone, no chin, I like that. The screen is beautiful and opening and closing apps is so smooth and fluid, and I love how each app can have it's own individual settings, with like font size options per app, that's a very nice feature, and I'm surprised Android never adopted that. So I will eat crow, I have to say the iPhone 15 Pro Max is a very nice phone. But long term use, I just can't run iOS on a daily basis, so many strange things and numerous issues for me, so I'll pass. But man I am very tempted.

I wonder if P7P cases will fit the P8P? Inquiring minds want to know...
No. The Pixel 8 Pro looks to be a little shorter and wider than the Pixel 7 Pro. At least according to the Rinke fusion clear case that came in today. Put it up side by side to my Pixel 7 Pro. I could see a difference in size right away.

So, unfortunately that means a new case of you have the previous model.

That's the reason why Samsung and Google went with curved displays, they are easier to hold (narrower).

They cheat you of screen real estate in my opinion.

I will take a wider display because of a flat screen over a curved display any day.

The curved display doesn't add anything useful and makes the screen much more vulnerable to scratches.

I don't think a couple mm makes a huge difference in grip?
