So, I just played for a while with a pixel 8 pro here in a German store (Mediamarkt) ... wow Samsung and google did it again 🤡 Exynos/tensor are such pieces of S*** ... I don't know what google was thinking when they commissioned Samsung to create tensor for them.

The device got noticeable warm just by snapping a couple of pics (no video) and by using Google maps for like 2 minutes, the device was dropping frames literally just swiping through the Homescreens.

Scrolling through the google store was a stuttery mess, I guess because the phone had overheated. Mind you the device was being wireless charged but so are all phones on display in such stores 🤐.

I'm cancelling my preorder, google let's talk again when you ditch samsung and come up with a decent processor 🤡

I don't understand the fascination with wireless charging? That is a sure fire way to decrease battery life. A coworker who has an iPhone Pro Max has gone through two battery replacements and he uses wireless charging.

I find it odd that the you found the 8 Pro a stuttering mess by running Maps and scrolling thru the Google Store because my experience is totally different. I have Google Maps open to my current location, i'm listening to music on Pandora and i'm on the Google Store page scrolling up and down and it is smooth as silk.

And here's the rub, i'm doing all of this on a Pixel 4a 5G which uses an inferior processor to the 8 Pro. Lesson to be learned is anecdotal experiences. I honestly don't think you are lying but just because you had a bad experience with the 8 Pro, doesn't mean everyone else will experience what you have in your limited test. I have a 7 Pro and the only time it got very warm was during the initial setup out of the box.

Demo mode in stores SUCK. I tried a Galaxy S23 Ultra two different times at Best Buy, but due to demo mode I could never get a true feel for the phone, so I didn't buy one. Seriously the demo mode just screwed up the feel of the phone, and playing around with the S23U like that was a terrible experience.

I put zero faith in how a phone behaves at the store in Demo mode.

Yeah I imagine so. Tuesday be better, it’s not as long to wait 😜.
I’m excited for the reviews. Really hoping there’s going to be some positive changes made from the previous devices.
Any improvement to the camera would be pretty mind blowing for me though as I’ve always thought pixel cameras are just brilliant, so if there’s praise for any sort of leap in quality then I’ll be buzzing.

Having watched more videos I’m pleased I went with the blue. My favourite of the bunch. Porcelain is ok but I had that on the Fold and it’s just the champagney rails I didn’t love. It wasn’t hugely noticeable though really.

Excited to try those haptics! 😜

Ugh, kinda torn. Much prefer the smaller size of the regular 8, but as an HVACR tech, the temperature sensor on the 8 Pro may come in handy.

Also, anyone know if these have video out on the usb-c? Would be nice to connect it to monitor like I did with my Samsung phones, heck even my iPhone now has video out over usb-c.

This is one of the reasons I love the Pixel phones. Android notifications on the lock screen. No tweaking or extra launcher required. It displays all the pertinent information in a precise and useful way.

Having watched more videos I’m pleased I went with the blue. My favourite of the bunch. Porcelain is ok but I had that on the Fold and it’s just the champagney rails I didn’t love. It wasn’t hugely noticeable though really.

I've also watched more videos and blue which happens to be my favorite color IRL, looks great on the 8 Pro but I still love the porcelain color because it blends nicely with everything. Porcelain on the 8 Pro just looks classy and it's not a color that I feel would wear not out its welcome with me. What held me back from choosing the 8 Pro in blue was the nice looking blue with silver trim whereas the shiny trim blends in better with the porcelain color.

I wish Google had done something outrageous on the blue Pro by using a high contrast matte finish color like black, dark blue or white for the trim and camera visor. IMO, that would have made it compliment the blue base color on the Pro. The bottom line is all three colors on the Pro look great.

I wish I'd have been able to order the Bay blue but I know for a fact I'll wish I got black after a few weeks., I never get to enjoy the cool colours. 😂

I love a random coloured phone!
Nothing will top the yellow iPhone 14 but the Sorta Sunny 6 Pro was amazing too!

Yes, I'm looking forward to the reviews, especially those by proper dedicated photographers as I do a lot of photo and video work.

I've been with a beige / gold / champagne Z Fold 4 too so didn't want to go with Porcelain this year. Bay is my favourite colour out of the 3 options but I know in a few months I'll regret it as I'm not a big fan of polished sides. Obsidian is the one I've gone for, also as I need 512GB storage. I see in the States they have higher storage options for the other colours upto 1TB for the black. In the UK we don't have that choice from Google. I've got the Bay case coming so I'll see some blue! Lol

All three colour choices for the P8 Pro are bang on the money this year. I also like the P8 in Hazel despite the shine, that would great in matte on the Pro.

Lol normally I wouldn't either but MKBHD & his crew do talk a lot of sense. Apart from the professionals, Marques, Michael Fisher & Flossy are my favourites. Most YT 'tech' reviewers I don't have time for except to see the new products.

White shoes...calm down!

He does go into a lot of detail and it's a tried and tested formula he has going on in each review but I do agree with you to an extent. Not the most refined reviewer out there but he is funny which makes him more watchable than the usual monochrome reviewers. Plus you can't not like White Shoes walking all over the phones!

Speaking of monochrome, I'm looking forward to trying our the new monochrome Pixel drop features. Hopefully similar aesthetics to what Nothing phone have achieverd, with the cool black & white futuristic look.

To be fair there are no reviewers who I actually watch to hear what they have to say. I make my own mind up and don’t really care for any of their opinions. They’re all so on the fence as the minute they say something bad, they stop getting review units. Something of that nature happened with John Rettinger and Apple. He made a YT video about it I think.

I just like the nice B roll shots of the devices in action more than anything. It sets the hype 😌.
